  • We installed our new Whirlpool gas dryer with a 48 inch brasscraft gas supply line and an expandable flexible piece of ductwork. The gas dryer does not come with the gas supply line, so be sure and order one. There are a variety of sizes to enable a match with the particular appliance size.
    You can get the gas supply line on Amazon. Just click on our link:
    www.amazon.com...
    As an Amazon associate, we earn from qualifying purchases It costs you nothing extra but does help support our channel. Thx for the help!
    The tools we used for this job were a plumbers wrench, cresent wrench, pipe thread sealant and a screw driver and / or drill. For more content be sure and check us out at housebarons.com/

      You've probably found the info by now but it's a 3/8" to 1/2" coupler or reducer. I wish these kits would provide these couplers or a female version on the other end of the flared adapter. Many previous dryer installs won't accept a male version and force you right back to the parts store.

      Hey Chillidog,
      At the big box stores , they have a variety pipe fittings to get you to exactly where you need to be.
      I’d take a picture and measure it so when you go into the store, you can ask them to get you from what you have coming into the house to something that will work w/ the connection kit. They literally have stuff for every possible combo.
      Your neighborhood hardware store can likely do the same as well.
      Hope that helps!

    can you use teflon pipe tape instead of the compound

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  3 роки тому +2

      Hey T,
      We have used Teflon tape in the past. But the drawback to it in theory is that if either fitting you are joining has a burr, it could cut the tape and leave a passage for gas to leak out. The compound does not have that same disadvantage. But in the end, the choice is yours.
      Hope that helps.

    Thanks for this nicely detailed video! I was told that I could get a shock (or worse) from my gas dryer, as it's not properly grounded. I have no idea what this means, and I watched your video to see if the electrical aspect of hooking up dryers would be addressed. Mine is just in an outlet with a fitted adapter. Are dryers automatically grounded if they have the 3-prong plug?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Sheena,
      I would certainly expect the 3 prong plug should ground it. Never heard that before.
      If your plug looks like a regular household plug, it should not be any more worrisome than any other electrical appliance in the house.
      The electric turns the motors. The gas provides the heat for the dryer.
      If you house is properly wired, then plugging in your plug should ground the dryer.

    I have a quick question though. You mentioned not to put the thread on the flare side, but i tested the leak with the soapy water and the bubbles came out from the flare side of the fitting. should i just try and tighten the fitting?

    • @Housebarons
      @Housebarons  3 роки тому +5

      Hey Hsuan Liu,
      The way the hose is designed, the flare end goes onto a flared fitting so that both of those precisely machined pieces fit tightly together. So first, check that you have a connection made up of 2 flared fittings.
      If that checks out to be correct, then try tightening them some more. If that doesn’t do it, then the only thing I can imagine is that one of those flared pieces has a slight defect and needs to be returned to the store for a new one.
      Hope that helps.
