- At tonight’s SXSW premiere of EVIL DEAD RISE, an angry audience member loudly said “this movie sucks” and got called out by Bruce Campbell on stage.
I sold Bruce a bottle of Buffalo Trace once; couldn’t tell if it was him. When he got to the register I asked him if he was Bruce Campbell he said, “someone’s gotta be.” Then walked out of the store.

Im impressed with the heckler tho, he bought a ticket balcony section(so you know he went in as a fan expecting to enjoy it) the movie sucked for him and he wanted to take the once in a life time opportunity to to directly tell the filmmakers that it sucked, thats ballzy and he is intitled the like it or hate it(fans can do that remember) Personally I would of waited for the microphone when they pass it to the fans. But I never understood why creators get pissed when someone doesnt like it. Both parties could of handled that better.

Is valid to not like a movie and want to express an opinion, however based on this video, they were clearly talking before and this person just interrupted this conversation abruptly and disrespectfully and using words like fucking sucks, like bro is okay to not like a movie amd share it, but don't interrupt others while talking and there are better ways to word your distaste to people that put their time of their lives to make it, im sure some valid criticism and feedback would have beem appreciated it in the proper time but just interrupting the convo and shouting fucking sucks, definetely the boes are well deserved. I'm somewhere in the middle on this movie. The horror aspects weren't bad. Some nice cinematic inventiveness, and overall the shot choices were solid. What killed me was there was pretty much zero immersion. I like to connect to the characters to really have the horror make an impact, and these characters were incredibly unlikable. I was just rooting for everyone to die except the little girl. Not to say there isn't room for such movies, but not particularly what I personally wanted from Evil Dead. Not my cup of tea, but glad its being enjoyed by most it seems
What did you find so unlikable about them?
Other than Danny being completely oblivious to horror movie tropes at the start, I can't think of anything that would constitute annoying?

I wonder what makes people act that way. They go to a group celebration of a brand new piece of entertainment. And when the final credits roll, and the opportunity arises, they seek to disrupt the event, lashing out at the creators, but is it a call for help? Are they in some kind of pain, that the only way to feel any catharsis is to vent? I picture him storming back to an unhappy home, locking himself into his dusty unloved room, and diving deep into Peterson/Rogan-esque crap, burying himself in gloom.
It doesn’t look like a good film. It just looks like CGI modern rubbish which no one should be proud of making.
And yet you haven’t seen it. Its very cute you think your opinion matters.

The movie was watered down to make it easily digestible for overly sensitive audiences that couldn't handle the gore and violence of the 2013 remake. This is not "toxic fandom" as @blacknoir8390 has stated. This was a cash grab and a slap in the face to the horror fans who loved the original movies and the 2013 remake. The production team knows it, Bruce knows it, and the visuals and story proves it.

the movie could fall into two categories
1. a horror movie that might be quite generic and bland and just uses the Evil Dead title.
2. actually be a creepy and well made horror movie, that both stands on its own and also deserves the title and expands on the unique Evil Dead style possession concept. It wouldn't just be some possession horror movie, it would be an Evil Dead possession movie, which has its own trademark feel.

Went opening night, they were doing interviews as we walked out, they couldn't find anyone to give it a positive review. These "masterpiece" reviews are either bought and paid for or just blind loyalists.

I love Bruce and Sam, but Evil Dead Rise was very bad. Want good movies that involves demons in an apartment? Watch Demons 2 or Rec. instead.
Usually if I find a movie sucks, I just leave in the middle of it and find something else to do with my time. No scene required. It's not that difficult.

This was a very well produced movie, it was its own thing branched off of the evil dead universe. There were small references to past movies, a few classic evil dead ridiculous shots, and the basic necronomicon situation. It was independent, a different atmosphere. Yet remained a damn good and scary movie.

I personally thought the film was awesome, I seen it twice once in the cinema and once at home, loved it both times! One of the best Evil Dead films for sure!

obviously people are meant to form their own opinions but the RT score staying firm at 90%+ alongside the meta critic score being pretty decent shows this has a pretty good chance of being good. I doubt Raimi and Campbell would settle for some average horror sludge to the franchise that is practically their baby. Hell, Raimi even hand picked Lee Cronin to direct so he has obviously got some sort of talent that resonated with him.
