I feel like, despite Pebbles' current state, this occurs before Saint. Mostly due to the lack of Rubicon and the fact that it hasn't gotten bone-chillingly cold everywhere yet. Perhaps the fall temporarily knocked him offline before the microbes in his processing strata revived him. At least a little bit. They are remarkably hard to kill.
Rubicon doesn't really "exist" we learn from moon that Rubicon is like a dream sort of thing but saint's presence in it is real. I like to think of it as a sort of museum of all of the memories of things saint has ascended. Don't think about it too much that's how you get into hour long conversations on the logistics of ascension in the lore channels of the rw discord
I really enjoyed playing as this slugcat. Everything felt more ambient, and in a state of stillness. It's a very different direction compared to what I was used to.
I remember I recently did a playthrough of Outsider myself, and I had a thought as I descended down into the abyss. Imagine how it would feel to be the Outsider. Living in a world. One of which was quiet. Desolate. Barren. Cold. Absolute silence. Barring the occasional lizard. Maybe a Scav or two. On rare occasions the demon that is a Miros Vulture. But also consider the space. Wide open. Room to spread your wings. And then the water. Also cold. Only getting colder as time flows forward. Your wings getting wet. How uncomfortable would that make you feel? How uncomfortable would it feel to land in water. Going from open air to the tightness of that wet. Every molecule touching you, your wings. Imagine the fear. Take that into consideration. The quiet, the cold, and the open air. Then we have The Call. The urge to descend into the depths. To plunge deep into the Void. And what is the void but cold? But tight? And what are the Void worms but loud. Imagine yourself, being in thst position. Being used to the open air where you can fly and stretch your wings. Having a quiet, nice environment to call home. Being at relative peace. And then being mentally subjugated into throwing it all away. Into delving into the complete opposite of your comfort zone, not ushered into but dunked like walking the plank. How would you feel? I would feel terror. But then there's yet again the call. You have no choice but to be forced into the discomfort. That fear. That noise. All for it to come to a complete end. Just like that. To live a falsity unparalleled.

Say, i heard you talking about this timeline stuff, does that mean you have to play the campaigns in order they are in, a different one, or does it not matter? I play this game only with friends and they havent gotten online much, and i want to get as much lore on correct order in my playthrough, how do i get as much lore in the correct order? Do i go to every cycle gate in the order of the cycles or doesnt it matter?
Usually best to play the campaigns in the original order, the difficulty curve goes a bit out of wack otherwise, following the timeline you'd start with three of the hardest campaigns right off the bat, always play survivor first! The path doesn't matter too much as long as you visit Five Pebbles and Looks To The Moon at some point. Personally i'd recommend going Outskirts -> Industrial -> Shaded citadel-> The leg -> Five pebbles. Then going whichever way looks more fun for moon! I'd avoid trying to climb The Wall on your first run so you don't miss out on the cool lore path experience, but it's definitely the faster path as long as you're good at juking out lizards. For maximum lore you should bring Moon lore/colored pearls! You can find their locations on the wiki! You can also bring her other stuff for her thoughts on it. The dialogue is the same across all campaigns with a few exceptions so don't stress about getting them all in the same campaign; rivulet specifically is really good for pearl hunting though since they're speedy as shit Rule of thumb for most slugcats is beeline to Pebbles and then Moon, they usually tell you what you need to do in the campaign! For spearmaster specifically though i'd visit moon first, then replay it to hunt for spearmaster specific pearls and the radio broadcasts specific to their campaign. Artificer is also a good one to replay for pearl hunting, and learning more about pebbles If you do want to do a chronological lore playthrough you'd start with Spearmaster get all pearls and broadcasts, Artificer get all pearls, Hunter deliver your payload to moon, Gourmand complete your food quest, Survivor either ascend or find family and find some pearls, Monk either ascend or find family and find some pearls. Rivulet finish campaign and find some pearls, Saint commit atrocities. Saint cant find pearls if i recall.

So we'll finish that and probably go do the campaigns in canonical order, as we play as our chosen slugcat, which isnt survivor or monk. And thanks for telling me the optimal way of playing where i could get lore, but also play it the best way, i appreciate it!
