Hi, thanks for the review! I'm introducing myself to the audio world and start to learn step by step thanks to people like you ! What do you think to get this Wiim amp + some Kef Q150 speaker for an affordable first purchase for music and cinema purpose?
Glad I could help. Personally I would go Dali Oberon 3 petertyson.co.uk/dali-oberon-3-bookshelf-speakers or Monitor Audio Bronze 50 petertyson.co.uk/monitor-audio-bronze-50-speakers-6th-gen over the KEF. This might help if you've not already seen it... ua-cam.com/video/ylDCx1Gr43g/v-deo.html All the best. - John
I’ve seen the bundle with the q150’s I’m keen to order but I don’t have any experience with kef. I like a lively punchy setup. This will be for the spare bedroom and hopefully they will fit into the ikea Kallax holes 😅
Hi, I would personally choose the ELAC bundle over the Kef if you like lively and punchy. Just check the dimensions for your Kallax holes. petertyson.co.uk/wiim-stereo-amplifier-with-elac-debut-b5-2-bookshelf-speakers Here are some other speaker options including the ELAC..... ua-cam.com/video/ylDCx1Gr43g/v-deo.html Let me know what you order....John
You're welcome. It does NOT have a built in pre amp for a turntable. You would have to use and external phono stage or a turntable with a built in phono stage connected to the RCA inputs. - John
Great review. The one maybe obscure question i have is, If i was to hook a record player to it, would the wiim amp send that signal out to the chromecasts i have through out the house?
Hi @JustinMCosta, I don't think you can transmit the AUX over Chromecast. You can send to other WiiM devices using the WiiM app and multi room groups though. - John
You're 100% right. Having the WiiM Amp connected with Mission LX-2 and a SVS PB-1000 sub in a small living room. I'm very pleased with the sound. Streaming mostly and with the app from WiiM it's easy and I can adjust the sub from my chair. Thank you for your review.
Hi Peter, thanks for the in depth review. I’m trying to start in the world of hifi. Do all speakers from your under a 1000 bookshelf speakers review pair with the wiimp? Or is it beter to go for a leak130 with cheaper speakers? I love monitor audio bronze and silverr 100. Also like sound of the b&w. Sonus Faber lumia 2 ar to expensive over here. And i’m thinking of the Klipsch the sevens, because everything is in one system.
I would opt for the Leak 130 as you will most likely keep it WAY longer as it is an entire league up from the WiiM's internal amp. Just add the WiiM Pro streamer ($150) and you'll be MUCH happier.
As the other commentor suggested, if you would like to get into hifi as a hobby then separate components are always better, you can upgrade parts over time and slowly build the system you want to have. All in one solutions are great to save space and a bit of money in the short term. Also good for people that just want simple, fuss free, audio without the components and cables. Listen to a few options if you can and have fun with it. - John
Hi Peter, was considering buy this wiim amp to powdr ceiling speakers in a new kitchen extension ( monitor audio speakers) Do you think would be a suitable option Cheers Brian
Hi Brian, I'm John, the company is Peter Tyson. Don't worry, you're not the first and certainly won't be the last to call me Peter 😊. The WiiM amp is perfect for ceiling speakers in a kitchen. Is it only 1 pair of speakers you are running? If you are running 4 speakers for example, it's not always a good idea to just connect them all to the one set of speaker outputs, it will mess with the impedance and increase the load on the amp. You may need an appropriate speaker switch to connect them up safely. - John
We just ordered one from yourselves with some Q Acoustics speakers, so we are onboard. Cheers.

Can you confirm if the unit has a built in pre-amp, so we can attach a turntable?

@@Peter-Tyson thank you for the reply. That's what I figured but wanted to see.
Another lovely presentation John. Did it sound OK on the Mission speakers?
Thanks John. The old Mission speakers sounded pretty good to be honest. That era of Mission speakers in the 90s and early 2000s was good.

Can you high pass the speaker outputs in the app? Because I will want to add an active subwoofer?

@Peter-Tyson Apologies John, realised my mistake as I pressed send !! Thanks for the advice I will be running just one set of speakers
I’m considering getting a streamer for my beoplay s3. Would this be compatible?
Not really as it has an amp built in. You don't need that with an S3. This is more suitable

If I buy this wiim amp has it got bbc radio 6 music ??
Yes, you can use TuneIn Radio or the BBC Sounds app with Airplay, Chromecast or Bluetooth. - John.
