This edit has to be one of my favorite Cordelia edits I’ve seen it brought tears to my eyes 💗. She’s my favorite buffy character and one of the top reasons Joss Whedon will always be hated by me.
I am NOT at all trying to belittle the sacrifice that Charisma made to breathe such vibrant life into this character, all she underwent because of bloody Joss. I am also NOT trying to belittle the sacrifice that Cordelia the actual character made, or how pain-staking it was to lose her so soon! I have ALWAYS hated what they did to the character, and of course to Charisma herself, BUT it was not until this video that it hit me that her ending, so abrupt, so catastrophic, so heart-wrenching that it was, was sorrowfully rather fitting for the character. She definitely left a mark on all who she encountered. Like Andy, and like Glenn, like so many others, hers was a vibrant light who touched all and ebbed away from what we can see and know in this mortal realm far, FAR too soon.
OMG I swear I deserve prison but I won't get time (oh who am I kidding? Summer has been my prison lolol but witty Taylor reference haha) for taking this long to post a comment on this INCREDIBLE video. As I already told you, I really do think this is your best Cordy character study. Which is definitely saying something since you've done so many epic ones over decades now. But seriously, this one cuts like a knife. It feels so real. Like obviously there are supernatural elements, but for the most part you focused on her human struggles, so it kind of gives me vibes of the btvs episode "The Body" in that way. It's something we can all really feel and relate to. Absolutely genius. I love the way you started out showing her as a young party girl and how she actually was being punished for that with her own version of Carrie and the supernatural equivalent of attempted date rape. And I know I mentioned this already, but I am SO glad you call out Xander for being the biggest slut-shaming asshole. I hate the way he just gets away with treating almost every woman in his life like that (apart from maybe Willow and Dawn), especially the ones he's attracted to like Cordy, Buffy, and Anya, whom he knows are out of his league, so he takes his own insecurities out on them in the worst ways. Cordy gets SO much of it. Ugh. And I adore that you incorporated the example of Wesley being an amazing friend/real man for defending Cordy when she was letting the internal misogyny come out and blaming herself for a man violating her! /sobs/ "Lord what will become of me once I've lost my novelty" the way you went from the scene of all her friends helping her put together her dress for the dance to her hanging up her one nice dress in an empty closet, all alone in her dingy apartment was so perfect and just plain haunting. The way you can go from having so much to nothing, not just materialistically, but emotionally. Wow. And again the way she is objectified on the studio set... it's so hard to watch. 😠 Gah when it gets to Phoebe's part, I love the way you showed how progressively harder it got for Cordy. The way she claimed to suffer over nothing but then when she actually does start to suffer greatly it's in silence. And yet people are still judging her like she has no problems and is just some shallow princess while she just fights through her pain with big beautiful and exhausting smiles 😭 Oh God...going from Angel valuing Cordy so immensely and her being his other half leading the team to Fred taking over the lead female role for "someone else lights up the room. People love an ingenue" hit me SO hard. The way Joss so obviously destroyed Cordy/Charisma, largely for the sake of Fred/Amy getting the spotlight is absolutely sickening. It is so important that you finally committed that to screen in this way. It needs to be acknowledged! It's definitely one of the most profound moments in an already devastating video! I'm glad you had the courage to put it out there like that! "I wonder if they'll miss me once they drive me out" the show fell apart without her. You really showed how unsatisfying that ending was for a character who had been through so much pain and so much growth. This video just really hits different (okay someone stop me. Lol) to me than so many others. It hurts like hell, but I think I needed it, and I want Charisma to see it. I think she would truly appreciate the empathy you showed for not just Cordy, but for Charisma's own journey. Absolutely stunning piece of art here. ❤️❤️❤️

I love Cordelia so much, I need a girl like her
