  • While the whole country watches The Great American Solar Eclipse, an event The American Astronomical Society predicts will be the most-watched total solar eclipse in history, there's a sub-set of the population who won't be watching. We learn why Native Americans are sensitive to an eclipse and believe it's a time of reflection and a time to be indoors.

I just didn't have a strong desire to watch and felt the need to sleep despite having had a restful night's sleep the night before. This is very true. Rituals like this reach all the way to south Mexico. My mother's side of the family are native to the Caxcan tribe and believed in very similar things. All this things have been transformed with time and people added superstitions specially after the Catholic Church, "being cursed" is a catholic concept. Native Americans wisdom was based on science and also spirituality. Things I've head with the eclipse is that pregnant women should not be directly exposed to the eclipse for the baby's health, maybe because of the powerful energetic reasons that they mentioned in this videos.
My grandfather was NA, and the church forced everyone into catholicism, so instead of him doing his healing work, he became an exorcist, he didn't believe in the church. He used to say that people was sick because of their own mind (although church made people believe it was "cursing" "devil" and all that bs).

Crazy as I know ppl who did not pass up the opportunity to view eclipses and they have done and are doing better in life than many of those who don't view it based on unfounded beliefs. I mean, if someone wants to miss it, that is their choice but to miss it solely based on a belief that has proved wrong is sad. It is a special event .... To miss it if you don't have to seems like a waste to me.

It was somewhat of a bad dream about my past..im hoping it means I can release all the bad things that happened to me the last several years and I can be free from it all finally🤷🏻‍♀️ I had no idea they held these beliefs about the eclipse..

Maybe there is some truth to what he said about not viewing it and how it can affect you. I have seen many people claim that they felt different or weird during the eclipse. I personally didn't notice anything but that does not mean others did notice something. I'm just looking at this a possibility not saying is complete fact.

I have always had a reverence for the Native American people, and I'll pray that the people come to know Jesus Christ the savior of the world. Our creator died for us and only in his perfection can we have eternal life through him. Simply change your mind about sin, ideas of creation worship, believe upon him Jesus Christ and ask him into your heart. It's a free gift given to use by God himself. As the Bible says; Ephesians 8-9 "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." John 3:16 " For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."

Many cultures especially ancient cultures see an eclipse as an omen, a sign, a message, a sacred event in whatever way. Not as something to be gazed upon and celebrated like people celebrate New Years Eve Fireworks. Western culture has forgotten the knowledge, wisdom and instructions of old whereas indigenous and other ancient cultures of the world who still believe in what their ancestors believed and whose beliefs haven't been too influenced by modern times like the Native American people, the Australian Aboriginal people, the Maori of New Zealand, Native cultures of Africa, the Veddhas of Sri Lanka etc....still remember and carry this ancient knowledge, wisdom and instructions with them. Modern society could learn so much from the indigenous ancient cultures.
