I'm appreciative of lot of artists for lot of reasons. But there are very few who truly make people happy. To be technically proficient and deliver joy is rare. But to see a video of 2 true musicians is staggering. Thanks for doing this!
Your performance here is just incredible to me....I love how well you follow Jacob's lead. You move with his energy and expression with your own flair that isn't overstated. I'm glad you had so much fun with this. I never have enough time or courage to mention all the things that I like about your videos but I still gotta say here that you deserve to play with musicians like this in person. I hope if you haven't already been high in demand with other musicians that you will soon find some kind of band family. Thanks for playing man, honestly.
Our jazz band covered this song in a couple performances but not even close the the musicality and sincopation of this performance. The change in the time signature is just fenominal
I love how you don't have the flashy set and symbols like some of the other top cover drummers but still sound just as good if not better than them! Earned a sub
I only just found your videos, and they are damn great! I found the "Ants in my eyes Johnson" one, and I've just been watching/listening to your craft for roughly an hour now.. You've got a new sub :D
Wow, GREAT keeping up. :-) What the time signature and subdivision? Jacob jammed on this tune at The GroundUP Music Festival with Larnell Lewis and despite recording it on video, can't figure out the meter. :-O
Yeah, we're saying the same thing. 4/4 is almost always 2+2 and 5/4 can be either 3+2, 2+3, or "Straight Ahead" 5 without a subdivision. This sounds like 2+2 + 2+3. Thanks for sharing. It was indecipherable to me -- I thought maybe 17/16 subdivided 22 22 22 23 :-S before you straightened me out. Both are short-short-short-long patterns but with different denominators.
Y'all remember vadrum? I mean he is still a thing, but just more meh. Well I remember the excitement I'd get when listening to his older videos. This guy brings that excitement back !
Robb Lauer To be honest I have no system , I'm a bit clueless when it comes to tuning. But I generally tune both sides medium-high tension and just keep going til it sounds good! Thanks for watching ☺️
Hot damn, odd times + subdivision changes + Collier and still tight!
officially can't stop watching your videos.
that snare sounds crisp™️ as fuck™️
truly amazing job. actually very fucking nice.

snowblind1985 I really appreciate that, that's like the ultimate goal as a musician so that made me happy 🙂

SeanFenlon Hey thanks! I'm uber jealous you were at the groundup fest, I'm sure it was amazing! This is in 9/8 ☺️
I'm jealous you know this is in 9/8 :-)
The original is obviously 4/4, so is this subdivided 2223?
I hadn't thought much about the subdivision, but I guess I feel it as 4+5!

Robb Lauer To be honest I have no system , I'm a bit clueless when it comes to tuning. But I generally tune both sides medium-high tension and just keep going til it sounds good! Thanks for watching ☺️
