    Thank you Trevor! I was super confused about when the filibuster became what it is now. As I remember it, you had to stand there and talk, no breaks, and if you left the floor you were done! Imagine McConnell trying to filibuster like that!
    There definitely should be a rule that you can only talk about the debate at hand. No reading Green Eggs and Ham, and the rest of the Dr Seuss library, on the floor!

      Please don't tell me that you actually believe this insulting propaganda. Fact: the filibuster has been around since the Roman Empire as a tool to promote deliberation and protect the minority IE to prevent a temporary small minority from steam rolling, unpopular mandates on society(exactly what Democrats with the smallest minority in 150 years are attempting to do). Fact: Democrats are the only ones who've abused the filibuster -proven by their own BS Propaganda! In which they say it was only used 5 times from 1880-1971 (the year before Biden, when Democrats used it to filibuster civil rights legislation) and 328 times in 2020! Stop Getting Played! They should make a rule that a 'filibuster' is allowed only when an actual moderator with a timer are in place. Also, the entire thing should be broadcasted, for free, to the entire world, to pressure spineless republicans into sticking to the topic. Edit: To those talking about 'C-span', as far as I know, c-span doesn't have the ability to actually order a senator or representative to stop talking if the senator or representative kept wasting time to avoid passing a bill. When I mentioned a moderator, I meant a moderator that would have the power to actually stop any senator or representative from wasting time and actually penalize any senator or representative that mentions falsehoods.

Then I read an article that described how well informed Americans that only had their news from one source was according to a Harvard study. It turned out that people who got their news from the liberal talkshows where the best informed people compared to the time they spend. And the best informed of them were the ones watching The daily show. That was when I started to watch several other talkshows to find out what is going on in the US.
      And if you do not compare to how much time you spend with the sole media. Well... newspapers on paper are still number one if you choose the ones with few pictures and many words in long sentences. I think the article mentioned Washington Post and New York Times.

    But Mitch, that's what you were doing with the filibuster. Dems passed the recovery bill without a single Repub, and they'll do a lot more without you, if that's how you want to play. And we'll work like mad to GOTV in the midterms, no matter how many voter suppression bills you float at state level.

    When someone start filibustering, they should remove all the water and food from the chamber and lock the doors to keep the senators inside until the vote is done. Take it hours, days or even weeks.

    • @antoniaathawilliams7

    • @lyreparadox
      @lyreparadox 3 роки тому +1

      I've been saying for years that passing a bill should be handled the same way the college of cardinals handles electing a new pope. Brick them into the chamber, with only a small hole to pass through food and water. They don't get to come out until they've voted to pass or defeat the bill.
      Or even, once they leave the chamber they're not allowed back in for voting. Makes them punish themselves.
