I feel like a mechanic that needs multiple dedicated cards to make it worthwhile is a flawed mechanic. And I say that as someone who enjoys Ritual decks in Yu-Gi-Oh.
Great video idea: Pokémon that are consistently strong across different versions of themselves IE: Bronzong seems to always have good energy acceleration IE: Mewtwo cards seem to always be good attackers IE: Vileplume always has good disruption
Mega Diance made top 32 at a regionals in 2016 and I think it saw some sparse placings in expanded regionals after that. Definitely better than it's remembered, IMO.
Hats off to Mega Kangaskhan for being the only one of the seven Megas that never got a Spirit Link to not be on this list! I suppose seeing some use in early XY as the only "usable" mega before Spirit Links got introduced kept it well out of reach of appearing on a list like this. Bit saddened to see several of my favourite species on this list but, well, lacking Spirit Links just puts you in a terrible position with this mechanic. Though even apart from that, many Megas just aren't good period (the prior Top Ten list had some "technically saw a little play, but you probably wouldn't know without research if you didn't play it yourself" at the bottom), and that's even once you make allowances for those in exclusive side products that are nerfed to not become coveted collectors' items, like with the Mega Gengar on this list.
I discovered your videos last night, and have been savoring them. The presentation is great with the lovely backgrounds, the calming music, and the easy on the ears speaking voice. I even enjoy the occasional strange pronunciation or narration error as it adds that homemade charm to something otherwise very well put together. I also like that you don't add a bunch of lame jokes like so many Pokemon channels do. I've collected, played, and watched the TCG at low stakes levels on and off ever since Gym Heroes, and every handful of years I'll go back to it after a long break. Videos like this help me catch up a bit on what's been happening during my years off, and also remind me of what I used to know. Just being reminded of cards and abilities like Escape Board, Hypnotoxic laser, Garbotoxin and Irritating Pollen brings back a surge of emotions. It's a fun contrast because the videos are so gentle and calm, but it doesn't make being reminded of these things any better. XD Love your stuff! I've subscribed! : )
There should have just been a few Spirit Link cards that work with all Mega Evos while giving a buff on top of that. Like until it's used maybe the Spirit Link counts as a colorless energy. With them all being extremely specific and literally only used for Mega Evolving it felt really lame to me
Same here. I have it in my grass themed deck still, mostly because I tend to follow Karen's line of thinking... It's to my detriment of course but I still enjoy him!
Mega Evolution in the games/anime is the one kind of evolution that happens swiftly and seamlessly in battle... Its kind of bonkers that they made the Mega Evolution rule in the TCG what it was.
When they bring megas back, I feel like they should change the mega rule from your turn immediately ending to the pokemon just can’t attack the turn you evolve.
You'd have to make it so no Pokemon can attack that turn because of how effects like that work, since for example; Genect V or any Pokemon with an attack that prevents them from attacking next turn. If they switch to the back and then switch back to being in the active, you for some reason can attack. It's stupid
No, megas should cost three prizes instead, just like TagTeam or VMax, for example. It will be risky to have a mega deck, but can be worthy depending on what they might release in the card game
I remember I use to run a Mega Diancie EX with the first deck I took to locals. It was such a funny plan C especially the one game my opponent picked up the card to read it and scooped. Card still sucks though and even back then I wished it had a spirit link.
I'm surprised Mega Garchomp EX didn't make the list. It was worse than most of the early Megas even though it came around towards the end of XY when Megas were actually good.
if mega heracross did have a spirit link, but big bang horn still had the same downside, how much damage would big bang horn need to have at base to make it worthwhile
This would at least synergize well with Max Potion, but this would likely just make the deck even clunkier due to needing so many moving parts to work together
Since the next Pokemon game called Me Pokemon Z-A for ...switch? They revealed that Megas are coming back.. And I'm sure they will be in the TCG .the question is. Will they work differently this time..?
I love how both Blaziken and Swampart's Megas were on this list, but Sceptile's Mega wasn't. Because, in RSE, Sceptile is probably the WORST starter you could choose in those games. Talk about a glow up.
Xy sets/mega evolution and break cards are my favorite of all time and I was so excited when a shiny MEGA GENGAR came out becuade m genagr is my favorite pokemon tied with mega metagross and then i read their attacks 💀 but it doesn't matter becuade during that era my mom thought pokemon were evil demon things becuase of the music pokemon creepypasta so I had to get cards from my friends in secret lol but I still don't have ehtir those cards to this day :((((((((((((
Um, ackshually, you forgot about how you can use Dusknoir FLF with Mega Heracross to redirect the damage counters So, on top of needing to attack to accelerate, and not having a Spirit Link, we can ALSO pile on an incredibly clunky and gimmicky Stage 2 to ensure you have as little fun as possible lmfao
''there is no good option to accelerate into strongarm impact'' made me giggle considering the whole gameplan of the deck that won worlds the year M swampert came out was to accelerate water energies into keldeo. Granted M swampert still sucks and Keldeo is better in most scenarios.
Mega Kanghaskan. It had a generic attack cost and enough HP to never get one shot, so was the best partner for the Aromatisse + Max Potion support engine. This strategy got top 4 at Worlds. Also, Primal Groudon had access to a spirit link but didn't play it because it had a slower game plan in mind. This deck got to a finals at Worlds.
All the mega Pokemon are outclassed now because of there low hp anyway, most modern ex's are better than megas in HP hopefully when legends za comes out they will make new megas on par with the rest of ex cards
@@RoundedPotato it does mean something. if someone wanted to make a deck with a promo card they'd either have to spend alot of money on each box or pay a higher price for the promo card just to find out that they aren't good.
Mega evolution was the second best type of cards in the tcg history after legend I know, there's way stronger type of cards, but I'm talking about the most fun to play and impressive art
There is no Easter bunny
There is no tooth fairy
And there is no spirit link for most of these cards!
RIP trueee
My favourite thing about M Heracross EX is that the base EX has negative synergy with it, having an attack that can damage itself for extra damage
Punishing early agresion on a card that ends the turn, megas were badly designed with the ending the turn rule
I feel like a mechanic that needs multiple dedicated cards to make it worthwhile is a flawed mechanic. And I say that as someone who enjoys Ritual decks in Yu-Gi-Oh.
Yeah. Too much names. Not enough beef.
Ask and you shall receive apparently
Haha. I saw your comment on the last video when I was halfway done with this one. Hope you enjoyed it

There is no information about that on the limitlesstcg webbsite
Where did you find this information?
Top 10 competitive promo cards

It got 3rd at 2014 worlds🤷
I completely blocked the first spot from my memory. What an awful waste of SR in a booster pack

Notice how almost ALL of the cards on this list are promo cards. Seems like they were never meant for competitive play
There should have just been a few Spirit Link cards that work with all Mega Evos while giving a buff on top of that. Like until it's used maybe the Spirit Link counts as a colorless energy. With them all being extremely specific and literally only used for Mega Evolving it felt really lame to me
As a Heracross Die-Hard, it's absolutely disheartening to see my favorite Pokémon at the bottom of the list 😔😔😔
You and me both bro. Mega Heracross is still good in the games tho!
Same here. I have it in my grass themed deck still, mostly because I tend to follow Karen's line of thinking... It's to my detriment of course but I still enjoy him!
I distinctively remember heracross seing play with aromatise decks that played max potion and rainbow energy for all of 5 minutes
Great video! Love these deep dives into the hayday of ptcg
They could actually return to the TCG in 2025 because Megas are coming back in the new legends game, Pokémon Legends Z-A.
They better not bring this back, because that would mean bringing back capital EXs.
I hope megas come back as a fusion of ex and LvX/Break mechanics. I want to see "stage 3" Pokémon again 🥰
You'd have to make it so no Pokemon can attack that turn because of how effects like that work, since for example; Genect V or any Pokemon with an attack that prevents them from attacking next turn. @@AliacadosDuelistas actually yeah I like that way better then the "end your turn" thing
I don't think I've ever seen a card with a minus symbol next to it's attack before mega heracross lol
Bro I have watched you on 3 different channels now, how the hell do you know so much about wow, yugioh AND pokemon ??? GOAT
Sometimes I wonder why didn't they released spirit sinks for every Mega Pokemon
Nice vídeo!
I had no idea you had a Pokemon channel 😭
Can you do a list about the 10 worst cards in pokemon starter decks or bad pokemon starter decks like you did for yugioh
I remember I use to run a Mega Diancie EX with the first deck I took to locals. It was such a funny plan C especially the one game my opponent picked up the card to read it and scooped. Card still sucks though and even back then I wished it had a spirit link.
I knew Mega Heracross Ex was gonna be #1 on the list!
HOW DID I NEVER KNOW THIS EXISTED!?!?! I love duel logs
I feel like even if M Heracross Ex did 300 damage for 1 energy, it would still be unviable without a spirit link + the subtracting damage effect
This would at least synergize well with Max Potion, but this would likely just make the deck even clunkier due to needing so many moving parts to work together
Mega Mawile was so much fun
Since the next Pokemon game called Me Pokemon Z-A for ...switch?
They revealed that Megas are coming back..
And I'm sure they will be in the TCG .the question is. Will they work differently this time..?
Best part of the video is the sad music in the back
I love how both Blaziken and Swampart's Megas were on this list, but Sceptile's Mega wasn't. Because, in RSE, Sceptile is probably the WORST starter you could choose in those games. Talk about a glow up.
bullshit cause swampert has a literal x4 grass weakness and dosent learn a good phisical water move until u get waterfall which is an hm and has 80bp
@sharkdeer I'm talking about in-game, not competitive. And even then, Swampert is an OU Pokemon in RSE.

Mega Mewtwo X-EX was garbo! I was always upset when I pulled it over Mewtwo Y.
Were there any Mega Pokemon that did not have a spirit link that were still playable?
Mega Kanghaskan. It had a generic attack cost and enough HP to never get one shot, so was the best partner for the Aromatisse + Max Potion support engine. This strategy got top 4 at Worlds.
Also, Primal Groudon had access to a spirit link but didn't play it because it had a slower game plan in mind. This deck got to a finals at Worlds.
this could have been a 2 minute video "these cards....because has to waste 1 turn to mega evolve"
I remember selling a bunch of cards to get a mega mewtwo x deck that I really wanted to make work. Shame it was just terrible lol
Mega evolutions were crappy in general. The Spirit Link only made a few outliers worth playing.
It’s really weird they didn’t print a spirit link for every mega
Lmfaoooo I’m like why this voice sounds familiar.
My yugioh guy 😀
Wow the one Mega evolution card I ever pulled is also the worst 😂 it's alright though that same day I pulled the full art Dragons Exalted Mew EX
How about top 10 best cards that rarely saw play?
Some day you are going to update your Ace Spec video.
I hope you do because I would be excited to see it.
10 cards that had potential but never took off
why they didn't make a spirit link for all megas is beyond me
Or even just make a generic spirit link card instead of pokemon specific ones.
All the mega Pokemon are outclassed now because of there low hp anyway, most modern ex's are better than megas in HP hopefully when legends za comes out they will make new megas on par with the rest of ex cards
