A vast majority of modern protests are peaceful and if you think that’s not true, maybe you should turn off whatever fear-mongering media you watch and actually go to a real protest. As far as protesting at work goes, the first amendment doesn’t get left behind when you go in to work. If your employer fires you for any kind of peaceful non-disruptive protest that has no effect on the work you do, they are breaking the law.

Listening to people talk about "what people of color have been through" is so cringe. My mother who is over 70 had to integrate an all-white school escorted by the national guard. My grandmother actually lived through Jim Crow.
Would you believe that neither of them have done anywhere near half the complaining as these college kids and athletes do?
Tell me kids, what have you been through? What opportunities didn't you college kids have? What slavery have you experienced?
As far as I'm concerned, our ancestors get the credit for surviving what they went through. We can honor them, but we don't get that credit. White people can't understand their suffering, and neither can Kaepernick.
I'm mixed. I didn't go through hardships that aren't experienced millions of times around the world in different ways throughout history. I bet I lived a better life than the richest, most privileged people in America did 150 years ago.
I'm not special, and neither is Kaepernick beyond his status as a well-paid athlete. No one owes him sh*t.
Raising awareness of the history of racism in America? He might as well raise awareness of the moon. We know Kaepernick. Can we watch the fking game now?

He didn’t hold up any games, it’s literally the most ignorable form of protest in history and you’re still upset over it. The message you and other right wingers send when you react this way to peaceful protest is that everyone needs to go along with everything the government and society does without question. Any attempt to shed light on an issue or change the status quo will be met with hate and ridicule. Do you not see how what you’re advocating for is a bad thing? “I don’t see civil rights era protestors causing this much commotion” as if they didn’t have the national guard called on them, dogs attacked them, they were assassinated, and lynched. Abolitionists definitely didn’t cause as much of a commotion as this guy kneeling when they started the goddamn CIVIL WAR. What’s a stupid thing to be so critical of, dude literally just kneeled, get over it.

A lifetime of being supported encouraging him to take stand against the acceptance of enduring stupidity you so readily embrace is what made the difference.

It did not in fact come from his girlfriend. The media discovered it came from his adopted White mother who stood behind him and spoke up for him before he could do it himself. They immediately ignored that revelation quite fast too.
The kneeling thing he did came from input from a Green Beret who had a conversation with him. Initially he sat on the bench during the National Anthem and nobody cared or noticed really.
It was really against the systemic inequality and mistreatment of Black people(Black Males 7% of the American population and get 90% of the blame), and people focused on police brutality instead since it was and remains an enduring issue.
