I think you just convinced me to go with a full size Decimator II and I have the room for it, I actually do not use a NS at all , but sometimes i wish I had one.
Thinking of going either Zuul, Decimator G String, or MXR Smart Gate. The boosts in my guitars (I have EMG DG20 and EMG ALX sets in my guitars) create a bit of noise, and my Tech 21 British creates a little bit of noise as well. Not excessive, but more than I care to hear. "Khhhhhhhhh." Apparently the EXH Silencer is also decent.
Hole-E Sheet... I cannot agree more, I have the Deci-Mate G, and it's my 2nd, the first broke due to the EXACT issue you spoke of using the TRS jack, fortunately, I BEGGED Zzounds to let me send it back (Reverb terms and warranty length are NOT the same as their site, FYI), and they let me send it back and get a replacement. I LOVE this pedal, it's the best noise gate I have ever touched (never used the Zuul for what it's worth), but you MUST be careful on that TRS jack, it's a flaw that needs replacement, even for it's current owners, it's a design flaw, and is weak af, and is my only gripe on this pedal.
amazing quality demo. you did not test one thing however, i really need to know how these do with the guitar volume rolled off with and without the key input. I use a single channel amp, orange jim root terror, and i want the gate to be always on. I may simply zip tie it to the back of the amp head and leave it there full time. i dont really ever go sparkly clean, nor can my amp do it really, but i often use clean with a bit of break up on it as my rolled off clean tone. the clean test you did seems great, but if i understand correctly, the guitar is full volume on a multi channel amp. thanks!
Totally agree on the 3.5mm TRS output on the G String. It's trash, and it broke within 3 months of me owning this pedal as you described. Really unacceptable. Luckily, mine still works if you don't use the G string loop, and I've just set it like the "regular" ISP Decimator and that's it.
I got my Zuul today and it is pretty good and an upgrade from my Mooer but is it worth 3 times the price? I'd say no but the tone of my guitar sounds excellent with the gate on as it takes out background noise.
I have the decimator 2 and was wondering where the best place to put in signal chain ? I've played guitar for many years but new to having a tube amp and pedalboard. Never could afford it before. Lol
I couldn't hear the zuul activate. It seemed to shut off the noise exactly at palm mute. Noise seemed to go for a tiny bit after palm mute then suddenly activate for the decimate. Probably the zuul just because of that
ES-8 Vol Send -> Amp In Amp FX Send -> Zuul In Zuul Out -> ES-8 Vol Return ES-8 Out -> Amp FX Return Make sure to place your delay after the volume loop.
Hi Great channel and great review. I am building my pedalboard and now I miss a noise gate. The idea is to put the most problematic pedals (overdrive, distortion and fuzz) in the pedal loop. Making a direct comparison of the ISP Decimator II G String with the Deci mate G, does the Deci mate G have the same performance as the Decimator II G String? If not how do they differ? Are they the same pedal in different size? I have room for both on the pedalboard and the price is similar so my question only refers to the pure performance of the pedals. Want to buy one but can't decide between these two. Thanks
Hi Man, do you still think Zuul is better? I would like to use noise gate with clean sound too without thinking to make it off each time I use clean and saturated sound... Thank you !
Man Bun!!! Thank you for making this video and pointing out the design flaw of the deci mate G. I have the decimate G-string I and II and the big and small ZUULs. I sold my Deci mate, because it was no where close to my Decimate I. A shame, that ISP has brought out such shitty products lately, they used to be the top company as far as noise reduction was concerned, now they have much more competition i.e. Cock blocker, ...and Fortin. However Fortin as a company aren’t necessarily better, because their warranty and privacy policies suck.
There's so much wrong with this post, I don't know where to start. The Deci-Mate G has the latest in ISP's noise gate technology, no other pedal they make big or small is as effective as this pedal for gating. I agree with his assessment of the TRS jack, but the Cock Blocker was a LIMITED pedal and is no longer available for the masses, and the DECIMATOR is NOT the same as the Deci-Mate G, the Deci-Mate is STRICTLY the mini, hence the hyphen, anyway.
What if i need to use either zuul or decimator, only use pedals in series into clean amp? Where should i put the suppressors? Signal would be: guitar > dynamic mod (octave, filter, univibe) > fuzz > od > dirt > modulatuon > delay/verb > out.
Depends on what is adding noise into the system. I assume the fuzz, od, and dirt might, so I'd probably start with it between the dirt and modulation and see how it sounds.
@@ManBunMetalHead Yeah, the dirt boxes are causing the noise, particularly the fuzz and dist. I'll probably switch the dirt order, and check where to add the noise suppressor in my chain. Guitar > dynamic mod > od > (noise sup) > fuzz > dist > (noise sup) > time mod > delay/verb > amp. Thanks a lot for the time!!! 🤘
I have a mini Decimator X, it's pretty awesome. 1/4 inch jacks in/ out, and the power supply is in the rear bottom. I never understood why some companies ( like MXR for instance ) put their power supply input on the side right next to the input jack?? It's annoying and makes no sense to me anyway. I like all of my power inputs on the rear (back) of my pedals. But certain MXR pedals are so awesome that I'm just like screw it. Like the 10 band EQ and the Carbon Copy delay pedals are both (IMO) pretty killer.
Hi what is the best noise gate for a soldano amp?...the effects loop of soldano is very particular, it is +4db....all noise gates which I have used does not found with soldano.....thanks
I don't have any experience with the Soldano, but I think the ZUUL Mini (or regular ZUUL) would work best, as long as you use the Key input. You may also need to use the switch on the side of the ZUUL Mini as well because of the higher signal level. You might want to send an email to Fortin and see what they think.
They can certainly help but you might have to set the suppressor so high that it cuts off your sustain. Trying to stay away from the amp is probably more helpful.
Cool test but you should have gained the shit out of your rig for reference and max capabilities. You started off with a tone that needed no suppression.
Man your videos are fucking awesome for knowledge. Your reviews are more in depth than any other UA-camr I’ve ever watched.
Thanks!
That's the best review I've seen pn this pedals. Thank you for taking the time to make this!
You did an outstanding job dissecting these two pedals! very well done sir !!
Best comparative, man. Congrats!!!
That review/demonstration was outstanding...
Thanks alot for helping me make such an informed purchase. Very cool guitars you have!
Great review. You deserve more subs!
Awesome detailed review. You should have a million subs.
Ain't that the dream? Thanks!

I do have the BOSS ES-5 and it also has the tuner output so i could use that on the Zull Key input... sounds great ;)

I just intend to use the normal in and out on the pedal, do I need a splitter for this?
7:45 no gate
7:59 zuul
8:27 decimate
These examples all literally sound the same.
I couldn't hear the zuul activate. It seemed to shut off the noise exactly at palm mute. Noise seemed to go for a tiny bit after palm mute then suddenly activate for the decimate. Probably the zuul just because of that
Review on the M1 Wireless Guitar System?!
Hey Man Bun! How do you wire up the Zuul mini with the ES-8? I'm using the 4CM with my ES-5 but my delay trails are getting cut off by the zuul.
ES-8 Vol Send -> Amp In
Amp FX Send -> Zuul In
Zuul Out -> ES-8 Vol Return
ES-8 Out -> Amp FX Return
Make sure to place your delay after the volume loop.

I would say that they are pretty much identical sonicly.

I do. Still using the Zuul mini.
Well done!! Thank you!! Beautiful guitar!! Please, who made it?
Thanks! I actually made that guitar myself!

I use a decimator pro rack g series with the stereo mod for my soldano and my mesa rig. I have a stereo wet/dry setup
Its the best
Wait. I had decimator G string 2 too. Mine is always on whenever the pedal power off and on. Is it only me? 🤔
Interesting. I bought mine used back in 2016. Wonder if they made an update.
@@ManBunMetalHead i bought mine used too. I think it was 2019. Maybe they did updated it.
My G string II also stays on when powering on the power conditioner.
The deci mate G is is analog. Worth mentioning. Not sure about the zuul. Personally, I like the Isp mini more in this sound wise.
My Zuul is connected to the boss TU3 tuner bypass and it’s still has a hum. Almost like it’s not working at all.
That's odd. Mine is dead quite. Is the it in your FX loop as well?
Is the Zuul a gate or a suppressor?
R.I.P lil G'
Would any of these work on bass?
They should work just fine.
How would these work if every time you weren't playing, your rig was squealing like a pig? Must be into the front of the amp too...
They can certainly help but you might have to set the suppressor so high that it cuts off your sustain. Trying to stay away from the amp is probably more helpful.

WAAAY too confusing.
09:39 Dood, you've got a pinky. Much better form to use it instead of pointlessly stretching out the ring-finga. Jeez...
