I’m so happy that my wife, was on board with my collecting from day one !!! My wife’s only request was that I keep my collection in one location of our home, that was a really fair request. Excellent show guys !!!!!

Don't let other people dictate what you like. They are just controlling and miserable themselves. Misery makes company in their mind.

100% the moral of this podcast is be happy with what you do and hopefully find another half that appreciates you for you and vice versa. Enjoy life together and live a happy life, because in the end, no one really cares what you do but you😊 Great podcast 👍 keep it going 👍

Great discussion video. LPH has an awesome take on the subject. Never give up what makes you happy for someone who will more than likely make you miserable.

Even when my husband doesn’t necessarily understand why I like something, he’ll still surprise me with those very things he knows I like. He also enjoys giving though, and the thrill of finding good deals. Oh, and he loves me for me 😂

I dated a girl who took one look at my collection and looked like she was going to have a panic attack. Funny thing is it only took up a single shelving unit at the time. I wonder what she'd think if she saw my collection now. lol

If any partner, spouse, etc. says, “either the collection goes or I go?” Let them go because you are dealing with a self-centered narcissist. Never give in to an ultimatum. All it will do is strengthen them to issue more just like it. If they love you, ultimatums should never come into play. **Note: the collection should not take money from the household budget.

Concur. Let that person go - not worth it. I told my wife from the get go, so that she didn’t start to act stupid later on down the road….these are my interests and hobbies, just like you have your interests and hobbies, don’t change me and I won’t change you. We’ve been together 16 years, so far so good.

Interesting topic. Good advice about compatibility being really important with shared hobbies and preferences. And how someone expecting the other to change will result in conflicts/disappointments later on. That Serpentor from GI Joe looks awesome back there. I'll check to see if it's in an older video.

This is a good subject. I was in a relationship a decade ago with someone who absolutely hated everything I was into to the point of throwing my comics out (I saved them in time fortunately). She would make up lies and hated my female collector friends with a passion. She tried to change and control me and she couldn’t which made it worse. I could go on and on. But that relationship did not last long at all.
The bright side is nowdays I’m in a awesome relationship with someone who likes and appreciates me for who I am and even tags along with me to cons and shows and lets me do as I want as long as the bills are paid (which they are). So this story did have a happy ending..

Thank you David and LPH for posting this subject. I have personally experienced this topic a few decades ago. It was an unfortunate experience. Nevertheless. It happens with countless collectors' collection s. To the point of destroying or jealousy. It doesn't make sense.
LPH, hit-the-nail-on-the-head. The higher level demographic of Women and their disdain for Men who collect or even enjoying a hobby , such as sports or hunting. It's always a problem. Well, there's the Red Flag.
I remember shopping at a Big-Box retail store( Wally World) and the clerk scanned the records I was purchasing. He commented: I wish I could have these albums. But girlfriend won't let me.
I was shocked. I replied: buy 'em anyway. No one should control your happiness.

There was an episode of "yes, dear" where the wife told the husband to get rid of his stuff and he got a storage unit. he set it up like a little dorm room lol, then on either side of him he discovered two other men did the same thing with their hobbies. one was into records and the other one collected star wars. its a great episode.

This is a great topic to cover - and one that may be good to touch on with more coverage every couple of months. It actually pertains to many aspects of marriage and relationships in general overall. I've been collecting since I was 10 (that I can remember), over 50 years now. Why... Why do we collect? Why do we do the things we do? Who knows. The reasons are vast and varied for us all, for sure, and some may be deeply psychological... but, it ultimately makes us who we truly are.
I've also been married for over 30 years, most of them miserable for various reasons, a big one being our individual interests and hobbies. Mine is comics, toys and related pop culture whatnots plus DIY projects - and hers are Round Dancing (and Square Dancing), pickle ball and her job, job and job. We have little time nor patience for the other anymore... she spends Mon-Fri 12 hr days on work, and her free time and weekends doing her things... I do likewise (except only 4 hr work days). We barely talk or interact and are both pretty miserable 24/7. We stay together, probably out of fear of being alone (our parents are dead), and that's the sad truth of it all. - It's the classic growing apart scenario, though I'm not sure that we were ever "together" as like-minded towards any interests or goals.
Time will tell how this all plays out, but… the sun is getting low for us both, and the options are few. :/
Again, great topic, thanks for touching on this.

Usually a woman just wants more of your attention for her, than what you give your hobbies. That's fine, but if she says "your hobbies go or I go", well then she goes.

Hey guys, interesting topic, In my case I am part of the small percentage of female collectors. My late husband had no problem with my collection. Not totally interested, but knew it made me happy. We did have conversations about this as I was a collector before I met him. LPH I am with you in not believing in divorce which is why it is important to see the signs before getting married. However, my story is not without its pitfalls, when I was younger it was my mother who was the problem when it came to my collection. She warmed up to it as I grew older, but those younger days where not pleasant

I simplified things. I never got married. LOL. But I guess I've been lucky in that the girls I have dated have been okay with my hobbies cause I play video games, collect figures and comics. A couple of the girls have been gamers as well. One of the girls played games more than me. Really though, the only two I can see as being a potential problem on that list are the trolling and gambling. Nothing else should even be a concern as long as the bills are still getting paid on time. I just wouldn't date anyone that didn't like my hobbies cause that means they don't like me.
