The Spec V is super underrated. They pull hard and torque steer is super common. The biggest problem is they're not a lot of aftermarket parts and the wheel are a 4 lug bolt pattern but a 17 inch wheel.
I had a 2002 SER (not a Spec V),..... I thought I was the fastest thing on the road...... I changed my name on AIM to CivicKiller77, and made the profile “Three Letters, S E R”....... I thought the overdrive button was some sort of turbo booster or something..... I did love that car though.
@@blakelip3 Yeah, like most homologation cars made for the WRC, they're not going to have the most reliable transmission. Another example is the Mazda 323 GTX. Amazing little cars, but they're transmissions are made of porcelain.
My 02 spec-v needed minor work until a friend borrowed it and left it on a median... I still have it. Always said I wanted a body kit! 🤷🏼♂️😜 and now it needs a full new exhaust preferably and i have the parts to do the timing chain just keep putting it off. 😬 (its not my daily)
Had a 08 Spec V and I have to admit it was the most fun car I've owned. I had a 90 240SX and a 98 Talon TSI and the Spec was by far the most fun. It was also really cool when people would ask questions not even realizing it was just a Sentra. The interior was pretty nice for it being a car from the bankruptcy era of almost everyone, but what sold me the most was how reliable the second gen QR was. I can't tell you how many top speed runs, redline shifts or hard take offs I had in that thing and it never blinked. With bolt ons it was pretty awesome to see 200-240HP at the wheels too. The only real downside is finding someone that knows how to tune them and certain years of the B14 were untunable unless you swapped out ECMs.
As a previous spec-v owner. They had a butterfly valve problem. The screws weren't secured properly and the engine would inhale them and die. This was a pretty huge deal. It had a really simple fix though. Just loctite them and you're done. Was a very fun car. Now I drive an Infiniti
I was just gonna say something about the butterfly screws!! Also another thing is to put a aftermarket header on it, so the pre cat doesn't inhale pieces into the motor, cut the balance shaft chain under the oil pan(or get the JWT BSR kit), add a lightweight underdrive pulley and get ready to have some fun on the streets with it😉
@@SnoopyRu1980 oh yeah definitely fun cars man. I had a full Borla exhaust on mine with lowering springs and an aftermarket sound system. Only good memories.
Honestly the sentra platform as whole was just a killer sporty and reliable make. Had a Ser spec v as well as a GXE. Ser made it to 300k on original engine and trans before any major issues, the gxe is currently my daily and is at 450k. 1000/10 would recommend.
I had a 2012 Spec V as my first car… loved it to bits. Was decently fast for a Sentra, and it was what I learned manual on. Ended up selling it cause it rusted through, but it was fun while I had it
@@yeoscore I have an 04 Spec V and 17 Nismo and imo, my 04 Spec V is way more fun to drive. It's smaller, lighter, more nimble, and comes with an lsd. 7th gens are okay if u get the Nismo model. The handling is decent but the power is just sorry smh
I own a Yellow 2003 5th gen Sentra SE-R Spec V & 2002 SE-R Red, I like the taller gears in the 2003 models (35MPG), as opposed to the shorter gears in the 2002 Models (31MPG). I live 1hr from town down twisty mountain roads. :) and nothing makes that drive more enjoyable than a nice 5th Gen Chariot. My motto is I don't need to slow down for corners. and somehow i'm still alive. Well Done Nissan.
I had a blacked out 2003 SER SPEC-V and my kids and i absolutely LOVED it. I would buy another one in a heartbeat if i could find one that wasn’t beat on, and due to a few mechanical issues from the factory it makes it hard to trust a stock engine at its current age.
I drive an 03 spec V, 6 speed manual with LSD and i paid $1600, i put like 4 grand into her so far, suspension, upgrades, restoration, paint... but when she’s done, for the price i paid i don’t think i can compare, maybe a Honda Civic, but i like my b15 more than i did my ep3 Si
I used to have an 02 spec v. It was an absolute blast, the gears are super short and that lsd makes it a blast around the corners. Hmm. *checks prices*
I owned a 2010 ser for about a year and a half. Didn't do much to it, just springs, intake, exhaust & front lip. Had some cool features, reliable, sounded surprisingly great. I'll link a video I made of the car in the response. Great starter car. Thumbs up from me 👍🏼
I somehow had acquired and se-r through a random customer at work and after a couple years a friend had convinced me trade it in for a bigger car more reliable because I had kids. I was really sad because my “black beauty” was by for my most favorite car. Now that my kids are older I want that car back and didn’t realize what a gem I had so now I’m on a hunt for a spec v.
Just be warned about the PreCat failure that these things suffered from. the Cat would fall apart on the engine side and back pressure from the header would pull the bits back into the engine causing significant damage to the engine.
YES, THANK YOU! best first mods for these are headers and a catback for that reason, I did mine with a flowmaster flowfx and it sounds throaty and mean.
The same issue plagued the Nissan Altima with the QR25DE engine, my mom had bought a 2002 Altima and it had the same exact problem the Sentra’s of the era had
I used to have an 03 Spec V. I loved that thing, and a bit on the torque-y side. The only downfall if you don't know about these is the Pre-cat failure and the infamous butterfly screw
I love seeing videos on my sentra! I have a 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V in the sunburst yellow 😍 its a beautiful little car and its very fun even stock. Ive been looking at this 2Jracing website that sells a turbo kit for it for $3,000 and it makes the car even MORE fun! Its also a 6 speed 😂
My dad got a 91 se-r sentra in 1994 he took my sisters to school in it I was born in 2002 and he took me too school in it , it has a jdm sr20det swap in it and it makes like 230whp which was pretty fast for the late 90s early 2000s and now I’m gonna buy it and drive it and hopefully drive my kids too school in it too
I own an 04 sentra SER and all I gotta say is it is worth it. I love it to death, I have to rebuild the transmission but it is worth it because this car is just awesome hahah. I just wished it kept the 03 front bumper
Hey it's actually the car I want. If I find a clean one in good shape for a reasonable price I am absolutely buying one before I even watch this video.
I used to have a 5th gen SER but I now have a Mazda 929 which you should do a video on technically I have three of them so like you should definitely help the guy out here and make that video
2000 2001 sentra se is the one to get! Sr20de 5 speed manual lsd well only some which I think was the midnight edition with 16 inch wheels not 15s I bought a fwd sr20det which drops right in hoping to get it done soon
My favorite car which was my second car was an 05 Pontiac G6 gt which had 200 hp and was pretty gnarly and could go pretty quick as at 18 I was going 140 in it😂😂
I found a 2002 SER Spec-v last year, 123,000 original miles. The engines were known for failures due to the factory exhaust, so it has a newer engine full aftermarket exhaust and a new clutch. There was only 83k on the replacement engine. The paint is faded, one headlight is getting foggy. The factory cd player was dying so I replaced it. The windshield needs to be replaced because it's pitted but not broken. The front struts need to be replaced because as far as I know they're still original. The floor mats, are bulgy at the edges and it's annoying as hell for my right foot on long trips, I intend to replace them eventually. HOWEVER the car is virtually rust and damage free. Has a door ding on the driver's door. Personally I think it needs a short shifter and a high quality flywheel with an exedy clutch. The brembo brake package would have been the cherry on top.
Daily one at 116000 2007 it’s a fucking banger I’ve only need to fix the master cylinder. I’ve upgraded the coil overs, the control arms. I redid the clutch and flywheel and holy shit it flies now. Gonna do headers and exhaust system and do some stillen body kit
The guy at my local autozone has one and I was so ready to make fun of him for what I thought adding a "R" badge, turned out to be pretty cool dude and learned something lol

It's a good affordable FWD car to own if you're young and like driving spiritedly. I'll also say that the B15 SE-R's used to be all over the roads of the US, but their drivers were also very young, and the reason they disappeared was the fact that most of them were wrecked in traffic accidents. I remember reading about wreck after wreck after wreck back on the Vbullitin boards back in the mid 2000's of guys around my age who had them and wrecked them.....sometimes fatally.....and the cars just slowly disappeared from the roads. They did used to be very popular (the B15's primarily, not so much the B16's and B13's... the B14's never really seemed to catch on like their siblings perhaps because they were re-badged as 200SX. B14's were often treated as more of a grocery getter although there was SE-R versions)
Bought my ‘12 Sentra with the express intent to mod the heck out of it and make it SE-R spec. Then the CVT introduced itself Now I’ve introduced myself to a Mazda 3
I always wanted one of these cars since i was a pre-teen but either one thing or another i will always end up with something else and just say maybe next time XD.

Did they miss the B14 version that came out as a coupe named 200SX SE-R in the US? I vaguely remember a sedan version that didn't have the R, but had the SR20 and styling, which came out in 1999.
