Not ever book is appropriate fro high school level, just as not all movies are appropriate for children. Don’t burn the books. But parents should have the right to decide which books their children will read and study.

A very good episode about a very relevant topic.
Sometimes I think mid to late 20th century TV was better at handling these issues than 2010s/2020s TV. Obviously, this episode takes the side of free speech and free exchange of ideas, but they also presented the arguments for the other side in detail, and noted some of the appealing aspects (protecting young people, stopping social decay).
Something tells me that modern so-called "woke" TV writers would do a horrible job of presenting this debate. I am open to correction on this point if someone wants to give examples to the contrary.

I absolutely agree with your impression …
I choke knowing that 3rd grade social studies books are now written with transsexual, non-binary, etc …
sexuality doesn’t belong in grammar school social studies … it’s straight up brainwashing of children by a publicly funded educational institution …
in short, the Emperor is wearing no clothes …

Lou Grant: The only show where the boom mic is on screen so much its credited and gets SAG pay 😂
On a serious note, it could be that when they ran these re-runs on cable they ran them "too big" and the parts of the frame that would normally not be shown were shown.

And what do viewers think of 'Reverse' Censorship? Roald Dahl's books that have been popular with kids for decades has now been got at by the PC Brigade - what about Their Censorship? Roald Dahl's books are no longer written in His Style. That is Cultural Vandalism, what about that? He made a reference to Rudyard Kipling & now the girls ( oh so sorry not allowed to use the term girl ) at Puffin/Penquin/Random House have changed his Choice of reference to Jane Austen! Doubt Dahl ever read Austen. What about this form of Censorship?

Students are supposed to be taught how to think. That necessitates exposure to a wide array of topics and a wide array of viewpoints on those topics. However, as demonstrated in this episode, there is a certain element of society which wants to teach students what to think. To that end, that element resorts to the banning of books, using "protecting" students from "offensive" perspectives. We know of the recent case in the local school district in Utah, where the ban worked so well that it actually backfired on its Theocratic supporters in that the district even banned the Bible. Clearly, this is an example of the law of unintended consequences being enforced. Nonetheless, the Bible does contain favorable mentions of certain practices which most people today would rightly find reprehensible. Therein lies the problem for those who lust after book bans: If such bans are to be enacted, they must be consistently enforced, even on the one publication the authors of such bans demand everyone read and accept, not as mere literature, but as the sole source of "truth". To put it another way: Those who live by the book ban must die by the book ban.-A paraphrase of Matthew 26:52.
Something else the supporters of book bans must remember is that a ban won't stop people from reading publications they don't like. Consequently, it is, regrettably, not a stretch at all from bans to burnings and other forms of destruction. Neither is it a stretch to blacklisting authors of affected publications and those who read such publications-whether or not the readers agree with what is written. The term for that is "guilt by association". Is that what "we, the people", want within our Nation? This episode is a strong warning of what can happen if we just sit back and let it. Indeed, it's already happening all across the land. What will we do about it? What are we doing about it?

Nothing wrong with open classroom discussions. Sheltering children and cutting off information to kids can be dangerous. Pregnancies, drug use, suicides because of gender or sexual orientation issues. May do more harm than good. Can shelter them forever and you don’t them getting bad information out in the streets. Do you?

That irony is what makes this such a good quotation for Rossi to use in this context. Those who support the banning of publications and discussions are very much following in the footsteps of their Puritanical forefathers. Who better to make the case against that than a Puritan?

I always knock the Internet on how easy it is to fix spelling, punctuation or other errors as there is no accountability nor responsibility when it comes to posting on the Internet opposed to actual books that have been published however that first scene of the book burning, I actually have something good to say about it. In fact, I just recently experienced an perfect example. Once you post something, it never really stays away unlike in this example, there is a possibility of media being destroyed forever. My example would be a UA-cam channel that took down a farewell video for hosts that was laid off... well, the channel higher management didn't like that so they took it down. Well, someone captured it and re-uploaded it elsewhere 10:05 Nothing says a great night out like eating Pay Day candy bar while playing a Pay Day board game 14:04 I had no idea "common core" math was this old. I thought it was something that was invented in recent years. What are these people planning on doing? Going all the way to Washington DC and burn every book in the Library of Congress? I moderately agree with the Paul Revere Society that morals and values need to be put back into schools but not to the extent of book burning and certainly not television sets that cost half a grand. According to the AARP website, a 20" television set cost $500 (and a hernia), $1,191.40 in 2020's money. Can you imagine setting a $1,191.40 television set, let alone anything that cost $1,191.40 on fire?
