I just started my MSW and the amount of reading and theories makes me wanted to quit but it’s something that I want to do and I’m not a quitter so I’m not quitting. This is a amazing video you give me the drive and courage to continue. Thank you 🙏🏿 I’m the only black male in the MSW program too so I can’t quit 😂.
Do not give up! My program was very overwhelming in the beginning but I make it to the finish line and so can you. Being a MALE in a predominantly female industry will allow for many opportunities. Also black men are starting to take care of their mental health now more than ever, so we need more black men in mental health to help our black men as well. 🙌🏾
Man, you are literally voicing everything I am currently feeling in my last semester of my MSW program… I graduate in May. I focused on school social work and I’m realizing that it’s not necessary what I want long term. I have ALWAYS been interested in macro. I felt the most inspired when I was taking those courses. Thank you for making this video and allowing me to hear your journey. Deeply appreciate it.
I love how well you balanced what's best for you while also considering what was best for the clients you'd be seeing! I totally agree that social workers are social workers no matter what their job title is. I just started my MSW this week and while right now, I'd like to focus more micro than macro, I definitely think this same change could be in my future after a while! Loved this video :)
Whewwww you preaching girl. It’s so frustrating & draining. I’m still deciding if I want to explore private practice because I’m not sure if I want this long term. I’m glad you followed your intuition and did what’s best for you!
I've been subscribed to your channel for a year now & I just wanted to say that I'm beginning an intro to social work class this fall 2021 and I’ve also gotten accepted to volunteer at a crisis center. I'm so excited!!! (I'm a college sophomore)
Sounds good to me. I don’t know what areas I would like to work in. I’m all over the place. I want to keep my full time and possibly due some contract work on the side. I’m learning we can be multi faucet and not one dimensional without stressing out.
You are so beautiful, your hair, skin, nails etc ☺️ Thanks for sharing your truth! It’s encouraging for me to be reminded that it’s ok to evolve, to grow into different things in this life. I know I tend to feel guilty about that so thanks for another great video!
Hi Kimmy! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. I am interested to learn what type of macro work did you initially transition to and what parts of the transition did you find challenging overall
So glad I found your channel. I'm an assistant program coordinator at a residential facility.. I have realized I don't want to work with clt's directly. Looking to get my MSW and get more into macro.
I can tell that making that change was really hard for you, I am glad that you are following your heart. Believe it or not, self-actualization is a very important aspect of social work. I am getting into substance abuse, because I do not want to work with kids, nor do I want to work with people who's predominantly mentally unwell, because of a mental illness. Let me take care of the substance abuse and you take care of the mental part. Please and thank you.
Thanks for your honesty. I thought I wanted to do micro level social work, but as I am considering work/life balance, stress levels, compassion fatigue, etc. I am thinking it might be better for me to do macro level social work. Do you have any suggestions for getting experience in macro level social work, even if it's volunteer/unpaid? Thanks. I appreciate your content.
If you are in a social work program I would definitely suggest that you intern and/or volunteer on the macro level to gain experience. Best way to build your resume.
When do you decide if you are micro or macro? Asking because my college has a masters in social work with concentration on mental health or children and families ……. So wondering is the micro macro what I decide on my own after completing the masters ?
Hey Kimmy, would you say macro social work jobs are more lucrative than micro. I’m not sure how this would work in the state of MS. We can’t identify as a social worker unless we are licensed.
Hey Ive been catching up on so many of your videos, very informative and great notes/details. Was is it easy finding a program, because for me it’s hard finding one worth my time and money/tuition.
Hi Kimmy! I just discovered your channel because I want to be a mental health social worker. How did you get experience to be considered for a job? When I tell people I want to be a social worker they tell me that even though you have the education it’s hard to get a job without experience. So what would you say about getting experience for this job straight out of school?
If you don’t mind sharing, what experiences did you need to get into your current job ? I hope I get employed with the VA . I’m worried about how to market myself to these jobs - how to land an interview
Good informative video! Thank You for your honesty. I have a lot of questions???? I live in the state of MD and we are not allowed to identify or practice Social Work unless we have a license but I hear you and others say that you see clients and I want to know how🤔 The other question I want to know is what types of work in MACRO level practice can a person do without a license..... 😀You are doing big things without a licenses.. Happy for you... please share the scoop because a lot of people has failed the license but they practicing🤷🏿♀️
There’s a number of different positions that don’t require an license. For instance you can do PRP, case management etc. Those are social worker jobs but do not require you to have a license…. They are also lower level and don’t pay as much. I have a playlist on different social work careers that can help you.
@@JasmineKim. Thank You soo much! So you’ re saying a person with a social work degree with no license can work in the field and still help and make a difference but without the title of a “ social worker”. Good way of looking at it... thanks for the feed back.. this is encouraging to those of us who are still in school or who hasn’t passed the licensure but still need/want to work in the field. I appreciate this, very helpful and encouraging.

I passed my test July 29th on my fourth attempt. Thanks for videos and encouragement! I’m excited for you . God timing is everything.
That is amazing congratulations!!!! It's always God's timing never ours!

You are doing a great work for all of us to really look at ways we can heal others!

You just gave me clarity. Just awesome.

I’m halfway through completing my clinical hours towards my LICSW and I’ve been feeling EXACTLY what you’ve voiced in this video. I feel so seen 🥺.
Whatever you think is your best decision do it.

Yess explore in the field it’s the only way you will figure out what you truly like.

Live your life for you! You got this!
So gorgeous! You gave me a different perspective on Micro social work. I always said I wanted to try every side of social work. Great video!!

In NYC most agencies require LMSW
Really great video! Thank you 🙏🏼 for sharing your insights
I am currently going for my Masters in Social Work what elective do I need to work in the macro session.

Not at all, takes a lot of research and really being honest with yourself about what you actually want to do

You will get some experience in your social work program. All social work programs requires you to have a internship.
Miss you girl
I’ll be back in August I’ve been super busy with some great news 🤗
