    Many of us dreamed of having a full tower back in the day. This seems tragic, but I get it. Nice bit about the power switch - did not realize you could 'switch' it.

      Yeah they are really cool, I actually might use this full AT case for another project, but for now it's just no good for this one. Thanks, yeah it's a cool little hack you can use.

    Sorry if I'm completely wrong, but you sound really very young, but you seem to have this natural knowledge, which your probably all looked up, but the fact that you, if you are indeed so young, have such a passion for old hardware like this is very commendable !
    I'm one of the oldies, both in age, collecting, refurbishing, etc, but I never really got into making content about it, at all.
    And to see younger ones like you having that same passion is just lovely. Keep on doing what you love mate !!

      Haha yep you would be correct, I am indeed rather young. I've been learning about vintage computers for about 5 years now, mostly through the internet. Yeah making videos about this old stuff is fun, I have a pretty sizeable collection so I want to document some of it so that way others can appreciate it. Thanks man

    Really nice build that. The mini AT case is a beauty!

    Nice, I do have some big AT cases but only with 3 bays, yours is a massive beast xD! Awesome tip for the button function change!!!

    • @ScanLinesAU
      @ScanLinesAU  2 роки тому

      Thanks! Haha yeah this one was way too massive. Still going to hang onto it though, full AT cases are so rare now.

    Nice swap. I feel like if you are going to use a full AT case, you should be trying to cram as much into it as possible, so moving this setup into a baby AT case make much more sense to me.

    • @ScanLinesAU
      @ScanLinesAU  2 роки тому +3

      Yeah that's exactly right, full AT cases were mostly reserved for servers at the time anyway, so a mini AT makes way more sense.

    I love the word MMX.. Because Pentium MMX is my first computer bought by my dad.
    Previously my dad had his own 386 computer and 486 laptop.
    Yours is neat.
    Clean and like new. I enjoyed your video

    in very late 97 my dad got a p2 266 in this exact case. i loved it! the ones i see on ebay are in terrible condition. your looks immaculate!

      Ahh that's really cool! Yeah I think mine was stored for most of it's life in really ideal conditions. It's so rare to see, hopefully I can preserve it's condition too.

    I have the same mini at case although mine is a slightly different revision, this case has a very nice aesthetic and its build quality is very good

    Lovely video, thank you. I've just transplanted my vintage PIII PC into a desktop style case for much the same reason of reducing its footprint.
    0:34 700 cm would be 7 metres, which wouldn't fit in most rooms. I think it's 70cm, isn't it, or 700mm?

    Just curious; why you couldn't mount that power supply with the fan down. Most power supplies have an extra thread hole for that "off set" hole in one corner; so you can go up or down. Was the power cord inlet maybe hitting the edge on the other side; maybe you could trim the metal with a dremal or something; if that is whats happening. NOT judging but that power supply upside down would really bother me. Your right that it is probably fine BUT still bugs me LOL.... Nice job on the swap. I wish I could find all that neat stuff. Getting harder to find these old "classics" in my area. Used to be a big recycling center by me; but they closed down about 5 years ago; so I don't find much anymore.

    • @ScanLinesAU
      @ScanLinesAU  2 роки тому

      You can really only mount AT era cases power supplies in one way, they don't go both ways like ATX. So if I was to mount it upside down, the screw holes wouldn't line up. Thanks, yeah it's rare to find these machines now, even I've been getting a lot less of them lately.

      @@ScanLinesAU Ahh yes; your right; now I see it. I forgot that the older AT cases don't give you them two extra holes like on newer cases today for the option to install PSU up or down. You would have to drill them two new holes; One in the upper left; inwards a bit for the offset screw; and then another for the lower right corner outward a bit. Or (the really lazy way) just use two screws instead of four. BUT that would make me even more nervous LOL... Them four little screws holding that big heavy power supply was always "iffy"(in my opinion). I think that is why they moved it to the bottom; on newer cases today; and for better air flow.

    Hey Dude, i like your Videos. But i had keep the Older PSU in. Because all these Cables they dont needed are laying around and the fan is a bit blocked. Also it doenst match to the design it meant to be.
    I would also Install a normal hdd drive, because that sounds are satifiying ;))

    Just one warning, these old baby AT cases, was really addicted on fan power supply.
    This is, why new power supplies are not good fit, because they're not sucking air out of the case.
    Later, cases fan was used for that purpouse, so it wasn't needed so power supply have good air pulling.
    So, this power supply, is not good fit. Not only it has silent operation, that means, it doesn't suck air, and yes, such old system can draw only 60-70W of power, that means for 500W modern power supply, to completly shut off the fan. But it's even pointed to bad direction.
    These computers didnt produced much heat, put with good Pentium and voodoo1 inside, it's not good idea to go without any fan sucking air out.
    Old power supplies had fan, that was going always full speed, so it sucks air out. They had purpouse of case fan. Because, it could be combined in times of 486, and early Pentiums, they didn't produce much heat.
    But with accelerators and fast pentiums (200+), it started to be problem.
    Pentium II LX system, in Baby AT cases, were first really problem, and they had to move to ATX, also because of cooling problems.

    Oh dude, descent is one of my favorite retro games! Just think of an fps game with an extra axis of movement and strafing! 360 degrees in 3d!

    where are you getting all the sweet cases? the ones in the uk are either terrible condition or only mini atxs

  • @MrToftheL
    @MrToftheL 2 роки тому

    A nice case in good condition is by far the hardest component to come by for a retro enthusiast. I'm not really happy with the case that my P3 system is in, but coming by a better one which still has all its drive bay covers isn't easy.
