I've owned a 2009 450x close to 10 years now. All types of wilderness tight single track from Idaho, slick rock of Moab, and all the goodies in PNW. Plus, ride to town for beer everyday. This is a beast of a bike and one of the best duel sports ever in my opinion! No problems, just minor maintenance, new 2010 seat, wheel bearings, and new rubber! I have two bikes - KDX 200 and BMW 450x both pair well with each other and never break down when taken care of.
@@scaley312 Great bike. Recommend for tall people. The bike can help make you any rider you want to be. Great for all -round use. plus loves to eat single track just fine. Only down side is you will be purchasing parts from BMW only in most cases, but good news is they will always be available. If you can find one in great shape I would purchase one for sure! The engine is from KYMCO so it's gonna be rock solid like a Honda but better rider designed from the wheels up..
...I do so wish they still made these - funny how most do not know it but this was far more unique than any review stated - BMW, to my knowledge is the only maker to successfully integrate the swingarm pivot directly on the countershaft, effectively removing torque effects on the rear wheel! Yep, no other maker ever made this work reliably. Sad that BMW pulled it so quickly from production... Hope they consider re-making this in view of the Dual Sport market in this displacement range being so good right now. And NO, the baby GS (310) is NOT in the same league as the G450X in performance, not from any angle save that of fuel economy...
BMW usually guarantees part production for their bikes for 50 years after production ends. I think they only make them to order, but the prices stay the same as they were during production.
@@benashlin8845 maybe so but one cant say that BMW doesn't have the ability to make one. After all, they do make a factory bike with a carbon fiber frame and wheels with a 4 cylinder engine capable of 200+ HP. I guess a dirt bike just isn't in their best interests...

Would you recommend this as a good first bike to someone with minor experience looking to get more into riding?

That seat is way too narrow to use the bike a distance machine. It is is also as a rock. Any aftermarket seats out there? Carbin?
I know of one for sale with only 1200 miles and considering buying it..but not sure the availability of parts and after market
I may consider one of these bikes in the future. Hopefully parts will still be readily available.
