I have had the good fortune of learning from Dornying directly when he taught in Melbourne ….i first went to a meditation class he was running when I was 17 years old…..he left Melbourne for the UK last year and although we miss him here in Melbourne, it’s so good to see he’s able to continue his reach and share his wisdom on valuable podcasts like Mulligan Brothers. Dornying has an awesome sense of humour too and makes the Buddhist teachings extremely accessible and practical for everyday life. If you have the opportunity to hear him speak in person, don’t miss it 💐 he’s been the greatest influence on my 20s and I feel very fortunate indeed

I worked with this guy in the late 90s, In fact I might have been on shift with him when the millennium turned.
I knew him pre Buddhism in the UK. He was called another name then and a typical Crawley boy :) .

I like what he is saying and I respect the path he has chosen. What he says about death really brings in another perspective. I can't wait hear more.
his use of how death gives perspective - I find that really powerful and could really change how I see the things I do in my life (in a good way). I also love his use of the dream analogy and how what we really have of value is what is in our mind, not what is in our bank account.

Wonderful video I was delighted to come across this, I saw a few comments about the NKT on here and wanted to share how I have found all aspects of the faith. I have had the good fortune to attend a centre for 13 years benefiting from a teacher who has helped my mind through every day life as well as tough moments, the centre is filled with compassion and has welcomed my whole family. I have found Geshlas teachings incredibly helpful , my time at Majushri (the temple in Ulverston) leaves me rejuvenated and calm every time.

I've been lucky enough to have Gen Dornying as a teacher for some time now. He has had a wonderful impact on my life and well-being. If you're in the Leeds area you should consider coming down to the Kadampa Centre for the Tuesday or Wednesday evening classes which start at 7pm and enjoy the wisdom in person! There is also a class on Sunday mornings too. It's a beautiful community in a lovely space. You can even hang out with Dornying after the classes with a hot drink and a biscuit or two!
He is wonderfully inspiring. It's great you have him for your teacher.

This so called monk Dornying caused the suicide of Anita Krelle at the Melbourne center he was Resident Teacher. He has now reciently been moved to Leeds. Complete Story on 'Exposing The New Kadampa Tradition' Face book group.

The history of NKT and "Geshela" is also a real eye opener. This is not authentic Buddhism. The Buddha did not pretend that people could be "happy all the time" like NKT does. This is more a cult-like recruitment drive than real Buddhist teachings. Kadampa teachings are based solely on one teacher. All their books are written by one man and him only. It does not even teach the Four Noble Truths or The Noble Eightfold Path which are fundamental to Buddhism. Monks and nuns are not properly ordained and spend much of their time reading out of these books in their (pricey) teachings.
@@beecat9951 What you say is not true. Kadampa Buddhism is based on the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha, Atisha, and Je Tsongkhapa, among other Buddhist masters and scholars. The teachings in this tradition draw from all these sources extensively and present an authentic path to enlightenment that has been followed by generation after generation of Buddhist practitioners. For example, there are numerous teachings on the four noble truths in the books we study. Gen Dornying is sharing his understanding with the view to help people develop their own wisdom and solve their own problems. The teachings cost approx fifteen dollars and no one is turned away for lack of funds. To find out more, search New Kadampa Tradition Information site.

Gen Dornying - a Kadampa teacher definitely isn't teaching people can be happy all the time, hes teaching people wish all the time to be happy and free from suffering, and that gradually by practising Buddha's teachings can learn how to fulfil this wish - but unless we are enlightened no one is happy all the time!
Also fyi all the Kadampa books teach the four noble truths - True sufferings, Origins, Cessations and Paths; I don't know where you got that idea. Also the Eightfold path is not the main way that the Kadampa tradition, (going back to Atisha and later Je Tsongkhapa) present the practice of Dharma but all the practices are included within the moral discipline of the Pratimoksha and Bodhisattva vows and training in the 6 perfections.
@@Oscarnmon Having been to his teachings in person, I can tell you he has claimed on a regular basis that Kadampa practices will lead to being happy all the time. And my hearing is perfectly fine, thank you.
The teachings are soley based upon the works of Kelsang Gyatso, who created his own sect completely independently from Tibetan or other existing Buddhist traditions. The Noble Eightfold Path, for example, is not taught but is alluded to in the NKT book Eight Steps to Happiness.
It seems to me that Buddha Dharma is not being taught here, but used in order to sell a notion of happiness to those who perhaps are new to Buddhism. I just hope they do their research and check the authenticity of the teachings.
