As a horse crazy little girl , I had a Tonka Toy Truck w/ its matching horse trailer , complete w/ a black palstic mare & foal . ( I had riding lessons, then as an adult became a pro equestrian )
Burger chef...... 1969..... 2 cheeseburgers .....32 cents 1 fry....10 cents A shake...25 cents Total....67 cents and Change back from one dollar We miss you burger chef.
I am in my early 70's so this was a real trip down memory lane for me. My brother and I had so much fun with our Tinker Toys. Most of our toys required no batteries and were made of metal or wood, not plastic. I always thought Burger Chef had better burgers than McDonalds, guess I was wrong with Burger Chef gone and McDonalds still around. I look forward to seeing more of these videos.👍
There was a grocer across the street from my grandmother who told me if my father wanted cigarettes to come get them himself,a rare thing in the '60's.
The scene at 1:51 reminded me of every housewife’s passion…Green Stamps. These were stamps that were given out depending on the amount of your purchase by the retailers in grocery stores, gas stations, drug stores, etc. The stamps were then glued into books(using the same glue method as postage stamps) and then could be redeemed for products and gifts. Being the oldest child in the family guess who got to stick the stamps in the books? 🤢
my mom got into the green stamps for a while and had books of them and there was an s&h store in the next town over in lexington, ma. i think i remember a gift catalog too. we used to like the sears catalog too especially at xmas.
I remember in the early 90's it started to get hard to buy smokes as a minor. Most stores started to card. Only the mom/pop shops that new you would sell to you. Vending machines became clutch in them times. Even schools started to ban smoking on premise. In mine you had to get a note from your parent saying you were allowed to smoke. A forged note worked fine but even that ended shortly. Then McDondons removed their ash trays and even higher end restaurants started going no smoking. Diners were the hold outs. But the time it got really restrictive I was an adult.
We had a Burger Chef in the town I grew up in. It was a real treat to get food there. After they closed it was rumored that they used horse meat without telling customers. I doubt it, but it was a running joke back in the day.
I worked at burger chef in the summer, fall of 1969 .i met my husband there and we are still together! After 54 wonderful years.i wouldn't change that summer for all the money in the world.
My mom would send me to the liquor store to get her cigarettes right down the road, she made arrangements with the owner and I would get candy and soda for doing it😁ROCK ON!!!!!!!🤘🏻🤙🏻✌🏻
While most things talked about on this video brought back many good memories, I don't appreciate seeing the image of a woman's uncovered private parts on that stamp! Uncalled for. I'm glad I wasn't watching this with my grandchildren. 😡
Let's not forget labor unions, good affordable housing, living in the same neighborhood as your boss, college you could pay for with a part time job, being able to have kids without having to worry about going bankrupt, antitrust laws, competent political leadership and a general hope for the future. Thank you boomers. You had the door opened up for you and then immediately closed it.
Yes, I remember Burger Chef very well feel like yesterday, food there tastes very very delicious because there were no g.m.o. and every food is pure and natural almost perfect for our health !!!!!!👍😁
I loved Tinker Toys. I also loved Tonka Toy Trucks. 😊

I used to wet stamps using a damp cloth or sponge.

Apparently, you and I were the only ones that noticed that, LOL!!
I'm glad others noticed it, slipped through somehow.
I wonder if his tongue slipped thru somehow! 😂
Burger Chef was way better than Mickie D's.....their flame grilled burgers and killer fish sandwiches were the best
We didn't have Burger chef in California as far as I recall. I am a Boomer.

Thank you to The Memory Traveler for your nostalgic videos. I was born in '49 and you always bring back such fond memories.

I miss soap operas. The y&r is still great!
My grandmother loved her "stories".
I met my first husband at the Burger Chef ...
Tinker toys, Lincoln logs and burger chef
I worked for Burger Chef during my high school years 1972-1974; I loved my job and the great memories!!!
Great memories! When I was a kid Marlboro Lights were not yet on the market.
Romper Room
I actually preferred Burger Chef, and Jeff, to the taste of McDonald’s.
Me too!

S&H green stamps! I remember looking over the catalog in the 70s as a 10 year old. :)

Cigarette machines are how genxers bought cigarettes before we were old enough to buy them at the counter.
The soap operas have turned into the View and other talk shows.😳. They even used to have cigarette machines in hospitals. 😱
My mom would send me to the liquor store to get her cigarettes right down the road, she made arrangements with the owner and I would get candy and soda for doing it😁ROCK ON!!!!!!!🤘🏻🤙🏻✌🏻
Early GenX overlaps with much of this.
True. I’m a Gen-X-er and I remember a lot of this.
I really miss Furr's Cafeterias.
1:30 - the "stamp licking" example you came up with was a full X-rated nudie shot from Sweden?
Whoops
I noticed that as well, LOL!! whoops is right.
Guiding Light was the bomb!
Pizza joints that served pizza that was actually good. Before delivery made pizza not much better than the box it comes in.
The juke box
Accurate! Thanks for the Memories!
1:25 *Attention the memory traveler* ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO LEAVE THIS PHOTO OF THIS STAMP - POSTED???
I wasn't expecting porn. lol
I truly miss those days....and yes , I wrote notes for cigarettes
I have just watched a video from Recollection Road about this same thing.
Same
Cigarette machines with cigs for 2 quarters a pack.
Check out the picture on the stamp . YUMMY !!!
While most things talked about on this video brought back many good memories, I don't appreciate seeing the image of a woman's uncovered private parts on that stamp! Uncalled for. I'm glad I wasn't watching this with my grandchildren. 😡
Henry's is the oldest burger place I remember. And the Red Barn .

Burger Chef was on Boston Road, Springfield, MA!
Yes, I remember Burger Chef very well feel like yesterday, food there tastes very very delicious because there were no g.m.o. and every food is pure and natural almost perfect for our health !!!!!!👍😁
Thanks for not including socks with sandals. Only dorks wore them back then, but I don't need to be reminded.
You didn't have to lick the stamps.I would just wet my finger, either with my mouth or the tap,& moistened the stamp with it.Worked just fine.
Don't forget Dark Shadows
I would put some water on one of my fingers and this worked out great.
I also remember porn magazines on the racks where kids could easily get to them.
Is that a real stamp @ 1:26 - 1:28 mark ? Is it scratch & sniff ? lol
I'm Gen X and remember most all this. Them were the day's.
I didn;t even need a note.
I tinker toyed.

American baby boomers.
One Burger Chef was turned into a Muslim worship center.
