Hot damn - for a 1982 side loader going on 35 years this thing sure can move! The power that packer had was simply unbelievable for an ASL! Guess Heil really really wanted to market a strong packer blade in their promo 7000. Packs in all that solid furniture and large material like it were feathers! This was surely a unique and exceptionally entertaining video that I will be coming back to watch again in the near future :)
SoCalGarbageTrucks haha i remember the first time I saw it that the packer just flew but I sort of forgot about just how fast so when he got in there and started packing I was a little taken aback haha this is definitely a tank all around though. Even all the way to the engine which is a Cummins semi engine so this truck is way over powered which is why it's in such great condition. Glad you enjoyed the video
When I saw the video that is allready up from this clean-up event, I wish somebody got a hopper video! And it happened. By far the best hopper video on the whole internet. Hope you will do this next year as well. One thing that this does do for me is put the packer of my list of reasons why LABOS didn't like the heil 7000. Thanks for uploading this, today I will start working on my costum heil 7000.
bram vis glad I could bring you some hopper footage. With how nice these guys were I was hoping they'd let a hopper video take place and sure enough I wasn't disappointed. There will definitely be more in the future

A brilliant place to put the camera. You get to hear the engine up close and see the packing at a perfect angle. You guys weren't joking when you said how nice the people at at the Granger public works are. The one design flaw that I'll point out is the hopper wall is just a little too low, and becomes kind of a problem at 7:30. But for a hopper that wasn't meant for bulk it does exceptionally well.
trashmonster26 every old 7000 has a low hopper. It would have been fine with the carpet roll except for the fact that the roll landed in the center of the hopper instead of across on the other side. However if the hopper was any taller the 300s would be unable to be dumped in since they would just smash into the side of the hopper. These guys are definitely some of the coolest guys out there. Glad you enjoyed the video
Some kid snagged some clips from this to make a compilation hopper shot video. I found it irritating whenever these shots came up, so I went back to watch this video all over again. What an amusing thing to watch!
Quite an amazing performance from this truck. I am thoroughly impressed with this truck, they sure don't make em like they used to. I don't see a modern day truck lasting this long! This truck sounds absolutely amazing, and your camera angle was perfect. I sure hope this truck is refurbished to like new soon. What would the crew do if someone set out a mattress or a couch? Would this truck pack it? Amazing video! I cant wait for part 2!
Garbage industry productions they're definitely not like they used to be haha for bigger furniture items they used a pickup and trailer and loaded the mattresses and couches and chairs on to that. Glad you liked the video
Hi !! Great vid!! The truck for the most part handled most all of the bulk, looked like it had a rough time with that roll of flooring that was put in, it couldn't fold it in two and also a few of the bed posts that were put in, (didn't snap them), but for its age (seems a little tired) and whoever decided to schedule it for bulk on that particular day, had faith in it enough to help out getting the job done. Again, nice vid, hopper vids rule!!!!
mikeyfromnj thanks man glad you enjoyed the video. This truck is purely kept around for the once a year bulk collection. For a side loader (and garbage truck) this thing is crazy over powered haha
lots of fun in this video. reminds me of what I'd put my toy trucks through when I had gathered enough crush-able odds and ends. just about every lift had the 300 maxed out and did the same to the hopper, then the driver knowing how to work the blade made this just an awesome post...fave for sure. assuming this was a citywide bulk day (because your description is lacking), how did the crew determine which piles to take and which to leave for the backhoe and apparently city-owned dump truck?
Trashman242 it's funny, watching this video after editing it I thought the same thing to myself with the items that used to get crushed in the toy trucks haha and my bad about the lacking description, I've been slacking off recently writing them since it seems like no one wants to spend the time to read a description anymore. This is a city-wide cleanup yes. The homeowners call into the city and request a bulk pickup and then the crew spends a week going through the city and picking up as much as they can each day. They work from about 8-5 every day mon-fri during the cleanup. As for the backhoe and dump truck, that is just purely scrap metal. As they load up the 300 they throw scrap off to the side and then pull forward and load the backhoe which obviously in return loads to the dump truck. They dump the dump truck off at their shop which creates a massive mountain of scrap metal and I'm actually sort of disappointed I never got a shot of the dump truck dumping the metal in the pile. I totally forgot to get a picture of even just the pile so hopefully Bryn has my back on that one haha definitely a unique system and they have quite a bit of material to pick up each day. Was a ton of fun for sure
Cool video! I always love seeing hopper videos but the bulk pick up made it even better! I'm surprised they sent out a side load truck to do bulk pick up. After watching this, it really makes me wonder why Heil discontinued the 7000 body.
zp12684 yeah this city runs 3 side loaders, nothing else so when cleanup comes around a 300 and a formula 700 does the trick haha definitely a disappointment that heil discontinued the 7000 arm. I think they discontinued the formula body for safety reasons as well as just general upgrades to their more well known durapack body but I couldn't tell you for sure. Glad you enjoyed the video
Cheryl Andersen washing machines would go in the scrap truck and they had a pick up pulling a trailer for couches and bigger items like that. Glad you liked the video
lpfanatic2003 I just checked that out. Pretty cool. What's the name of the company/do you know the address of where they park their trucks if you don't mind me asking?
What a unique vid! Always imagined something like this but didn't think it would happen lol Where was this? Were they loading up illegally dumped crap or what? I was super pleased to see how the 7000s made quick work of the stuff, often only needing one packer cycle to clear the hopper. Haha that wood thing at 3:17-3:32 was funny to watch. Lots of plastic/paper/scrap with the trash, but I bet the 'hood looks a lot nicer. Great catch
I really do appreciate you guys getting this footage. Watching these 300's loading up bulk is really neat to watch. The packer on this thing is also very interesting. Where do you suppose the cylinder is for the packer might be hiding?
shadofax96 this truck is just a blast to go see in person. Nothing quite like it haha if I remember correctly the cylinder is at the center and bottom of the hopper floor. I'll have to see if I can get some pictures of the local formula next time I get some free time
The cylinder is hidden in a square pipe that is attached to the packer plate and protrudes backward into the body. The pipe is indeed placed in the center, just above the hopper floor, and it is guided by beams welded to the floor. The Curbtender uses the same technique.
Awesome job man! Great that you and Bryn teamed up on this. He got great shots from the ground and you got all the hopper footage! Truck must fill up fast? Is that little mirror all he driver has to see into the hopper?
Mike3141981 haha yep! It was great to go as a team on this project. I have some ground footage as well but that will be posted quite some time in the future. This truck definitely filled up fast but that was because the first pile was about 1/2 a truck load (unusual for the city) so they had to switch to their newer 310 7000 for the rest of the day. Every day they do 2 truck loads and dump the ALF in the end of the day and the 310 in the morning. Glad you enjoyed what we managed to come up with
West Coast Refuse Trucks yeah definitely, it was some great footage. I've seen the 310. Bryn filmed it and it's grey. What does their other ASL look like? It's a 320 F7000 right?
Mike3141981 haha no worries man. Yeah he has to retract the blade manually unless it goes all the way back then I believe it retracts on its own but I'm not entirely sure. And yeah their 310 is the grey one and their other one is a 320 f7000
haha Just the other day I was watching Bryn's video of this truck doing exactly this job, and I was thinking how awesome it would've been to get a hopper view! I feel stupid not even considering someone got this view action, given that it's bulk waste going into an ASL, quick packer and mean engine. Is a real damn quick cycle time, shoots forward and returns real swiftly, no stuffing around with this thing at all... but having an engine with that kind of grumble, you'd expect the packer would be quick to match :P Loved some of that crunching, was waiting for that wood to flick around at 3:10. Saw a couple of times some dense material would get stuck between the body hole and top edge of the blade, got it a couple of times at 8:28 and 13:10 to note. Cool how those 300g worth of material makes for a perfect fit in the packing region of the hopper, that packer basically puts it all away in one hit.
I wasn't about to let my fellow enthusiasts down and not provide a hopper video hahaha This truck is way over powered so it just fly's through everything. I was waiting for that piece of wood myself, I was sure it was going to take my camera out but It got lucky haha It does struggle with certain objects but granted its not meant for bulk, so its bound to have flaws somewhere lol the 300 is definitely a perfect fit for the hopper size though, 1 300 is a perfectly filled hopper. glad you enjoyed this video

very strong? Gets stopped by rolls of carpet.
@@rsturbolad26 do you have any idea how tough carpet is?
Hands down best hopper video around
Truck sounded great
Outstanding job
trashmankirk thanks man haha glad you enjoyed it
Wow that blade moves fast, wish I had that for recycling
Awesome video! I love the crunching, that thing has some power for a 1982 truck . Also I love the reving that think makes.
So satisfying when stuff lands into just the right spot for good crush action, such as around the 11.30 mark. Lil heater got it good.
My favourite is the rotopress. It smashes even better when the first things loaded are really heavy. That smashes so nice!

JdchHi
That was great. Thanks for posting.
That is so cool!
They need theses trucks in Fairfield!
First time I've seen an ASL on bulk, any more of these vids?
Great packing action, that is a very fast and powerful packer. Look forward to more footage.
RODALCO2007 thank you. It's definitely a crazy truck

MrBillT haha thanks for viewing again. Definitely an entertaining video for sure lol
Jeez the compactor has a mind of its own and it’s fast
Never seen a sideloader picking up bulk before. this is pretty dope. that's a strong ass packer too. please post more!
SuperOptimus217 there will be more someday in the future. It's definitely a unique cleanup system for sure haha

Wow. Quite a different type of machine. What about mattresses, couches, washing machines? Love the video! Coming from your addict in Dousman, WI.
Cheryl Andersen washing machines would go in the scrap truck and they had a pick up pulling a trailer for couches and bigger items like that. Glad you liked the video
The local hauler uses one of these to do the 300s around the county. Really good catch! I've always wondered what a hopper shot would look like.
lpfanatic2003 what county/state do you live in? Always enjoy seeing these Formula bodies
West Coast Refuse Trucks Shoshone County in the Idaho panhandle. The hauler only has something like 2 ASLs and 3 RLs.
lpfanatic2003 dang I can't find the yard anywhere. Was hoping to see what all they ran
It's a family run company. Next time I'm in the area I might do a drive by. I have a video of one of their RLs on my channel.
lpfanatic2003 I just checked that out. Pretty cool. What's the name of the company/do you know the address of where they park their trucks if you don't mind me asking?

Very impressive for an ASL on bulk.
Awesome! Really unexpected use of an old ASL, but it performs really well! :)

The Curbtender uses the same technique.
Fantastic! Thank you for that.
this seems almost like a perfect design. Why do we not still use them?
maybe because it's more expensive or something and it doesn't have the follower panel thing, that most side loaders have now
Awesome job man! Great that you and Bryn teamed up on this. He got great shots from the ground and you got all the hopper footage! Truck must fill up fast? Is that little mirror all he driver has to see into the hopper?
