Amtrak 7 Empire Builder with new Borealis Trains May 19 2024 leaving Milwaukee WI

On Sunday May 19 2024 Amtrak #7 the Empire Builder had the new Amtrak Borealis train in tow on its way to St Paul MN. The Borealis is a new train running between Chicago and St Paul. The new service will start on Tuesday May 21 2024. This will be the first time since 1981 that there has been two trains running between Chicago and St Paul. The Borealis will make all the same stops as the Empire Builders and the Hiawatha trains

Expect much higher ridership at every stop between Minneapolis and Chicago when the extra daily trains are running as Amtrak Borealis. Frequecny of service makes a huge difference to people's plans for rail travel.

It should give the Builder soon breathing space. By the time it gets to St Paul, there are hardly any seats left at times.
