You have no idea how rich and how "full" this lyric tenor sounds live. It has colour and depth which, although this video is wonderful, are not obvious from the recordings. Mr Camarena is a voice of a lifetime! Kudos to Mr Rosenblatt for bringing him to London and congratulations to Maestro Camarena - beyond belief wonderful!
Thankfully, I do have an idea how warm, full, colorful and exciting his voice is in a big house. It was one of my most unforgettable nights are the opera.
Florez puts too much emotion into it, and Pavarotti's recording muffles the sound. Here with the simple piano accompaniment we hear the aria clear and pure.
The last comment was right - the recording, fabulous, though as it is does not do full justice to this singer. He sang this aria and cabaletta early on in the first half of the recital! For most singers it would have been the last number before the interval. The place erupted! Because he has made a speciality of the colaratura roles you don't realise just how large and warm his instrument is. And he uses it so artistically, with real feeling, expression, artistry and refinement. But ALWAYS EXCITING - never crude or brash. Not afraid to insert a Gigli/Tucker "cry" when appropriate (see the Despedida on UA-cam from the same concert) to proper effect. With some really great tenor voices around we are truly lucky.
He try to be excellent as Florez, but ...he is not . Very well singer- that is all. Also , he take too late these roles of strict bel canto ( Doniz. Bellini, Rossini ...). Also, in spite of his new hair he is a singer without charisme and who has not perfect technique, nor so unique voice (timbre) as Florez!

He attempts to imitate Juan Diego Florez, but fails. He lacks the immaculate technique & breath control of Florez & needs a microphone even with only piano accompaniment. I'm not impressed. Watch the 2008 UA-cam clip of Florez with orchestra, it's magic.
Ifmusicbethefoodoflove Egc The microphone is only for recording. Having heard both him and JDF live I can confirm Camarena has a voice a few sizes larger than JDF. They are both wonderful artists, technically and stylistically.

@@leskendal I don't equate size with quality, so I prefer Florez. Precious gifts come in small parcel - sums it up for me, he's the diamond.
