Greetings, i own a Vanquish 440, all the gold i found was between 1 and 3. Now it is true to say that it is in the range of foil wrap paper. The discrimination is kicking in. But let's keep in mind that when you are having foil wrap, the 440 will see the frequency shifting slightly, it is the same for gold, the frequency shifting will tell you the same thing. This is why i dig out every 1 to 3 knowing that it can be gold. There is a very small difference between gold and foil wrappers. I always use the jewellery mode when metal detecting. Thanks for posting this. Cheers!
And I need to say that my partner, who is more experienced than me on the business, goes the machine on raw mode: he says that notching makes the machine less sensible and decreases the depth because the brain needs to consume more energy and it takes it from the configuration efforts.
Coin mode filters out "some" small items like foil.. gold rings up like foil. jewelry mode is where it's at. I learned this on RelicDirtyHands UA-cam channel's tutorial for Vanquish (difference between models) when my gal got her Vanquish and i wanted to help her get started right with it. After listening to Laurie i had her set it for jewelry mode only. With foil and gold ringing up similar i knew i didnt want to filter out foil.. gotta dig it all on the beach. Same with my Equinox, dig it all unless it's very iron sounding. Very nice job demonstrating it for folks and it's a good thing to know. :- )
Liked this video. Been hunting with the Simplex for about a year. Be digging alot more of those low tones. I mainly hunt parks and tot lots. Found plenty of silver, but struggle to find the GOLD.
The Simplex will hit silver Loud and Proud.. I think when anyone finds any kind of gold on any detector it is all my luck of the dig.. cause of how much trash you pick up in gold range.
@@ohdannyboyjustadiggin That is pretty much it dan, being at the right place at the right time and deciding to dig whatever we swing our coil over. Never a right or wrong way thats for sure, whatever we feel like diggin that day 🙏
The gold is an illusive one, it hides amongst hundreds of aluminum foil shreds and bent up pull tabs... but once you think you are digging up just another piece of junk and some gold pops out... that is when the realization hits! Thanks a bunch south west, got to love the silver too!!
Hi and thanks for another great video. I usually dig every signal. Maybe if I had a really expensive detector I might go by the numbers. But on the beach as it's easy to dig, I just go for it, Natalie 😉🌞🌊😎
That is what it all comes back down to, we have got to dig it all if we want it all... I dig pretty much everything it just depends on the day and how much energy I have 🤣🙏
It's just software if your using the vanquish on the beach hunt in all metal....dig everything from -3 and up!!! I have the finds to prove this is a great machine.
I run my equinox 600 on Beach 1 mode when working at the beach. I also go over to targets and set it to 1 tone as that will give you a crisp sharp sound. Then I turn my volume up to 23 as this will allow me hear really deep signals and sensitivity as high as the beach will allow at least 20. I dig it all at the beach as chains can give very crazy signals. Dug a 14k gold wedding ban a couple of weeks ago at 12 inches on a 13/14 signal. I was really surprised as I was expecting a pull tab. Great video. Thanks.
Absolutely love it and that's the best feeling! It seems like the jewelry always comes when we least expect it... and that's when it feels awesome. I love that tip with the 1 tone I've done it a few times at the beach and it really makes those low tones shine!!
Hi dude. I started finding gold when I noticed that trash means prizes. When I started to digging the foil signals. For sure the probability laws says that on the beach, at the wet sand area, 99% of foil signals will be foil but dude, on wet sand the game changes, foil floats with the tides to the shore zone and, on low tide, at wet sand o under water, a 8-10-15 equinox VDI numbers with low tone will be 50% pull tabs or 50% something interesting. We've find gold from - 3 to 20 and my best find, a Tiffany gold ring marked 20 with a very high tone. We need to know that is not only the material (gold, silver, aluminium, nickel...) is not only also de depth, the fact is the shape, the size and of course the way that the object lays on the ground is very very important. I love to detect the low tones, I had lots of surprises this way. Keep swinging dude. There's a horrible weather here those days but also the lowest tides of the month. This night I'll travel 200 km to a very popular beach on summer. Hope the sand to get out a bit and having fun.
My vanquish vdi for some ear rings is 1-2, so, I already dig those #, especially at park playgrounds or dry sand areas like beaches or volleyball Court's. Jewelry # is the full spectrum.
I've been learning along the way... at the end of the day at least it's a lot of trash cleaned up! Eventually the gold will come and reward us 😊I'm still looking for a gold chain! Maybe one day.. just have to keep on digging larry 🙏
I was honestly thinking 8-10 on the vanquish. I would’ve never guessed 1-2. I usually carry on when I see that number A real eye opener Thanks my friend
MOST of those low numbers will be trash.. the ratio is definitely heavily favored to foil but I can bet there is gold hiding at most parks in those low numbers!! Because no one wants to dig the foil! But it just depends on the day, digging a lot of trash is a hard task and it really can just be the luck of the draw. It's at least good to know and keep an open mind on what could be hiding under the ground we just never know... thanks bugs 🙏

Right on Rob!! It took me a while to realize that but I am at that realization now... so many variations of jewelry! Sometimes I still feel crazy digging up lots of foil tones... but I know it's for the greater good 😁 Thanks for watching!
I am guessing on the Vanquish they have their pre-programmed modes setup so that if you notch back in those lower numbers it gives iron tone instead of the corresponding low/mid/high tone. Could be by design or unintended, would have to ask Minelab. Yes, I have seen 1 to 5 numbers come up for gold finds on the Minelab machines in many videos. It scares me to the point that I ensure that even with my Ace Apex any tone bouncing between the borders of iron and foil, I dig it. I dont have any gold to test with as of yet. Would loved it if you had shown us what numbers the Apex gives.
Hey dave maybe I will do a short video on a few gold targets with the ace apex for you and the others wondering, I think you are digging the right numbers though! LOTS of scrap down there in those low numbers so its a give and take.. personally it just depends on how I am feeling that day!
This is a really informative video especially since I own two of the detectors your testing here. Looks like I'm going to have to notch back in those low numbers on the Vanquish to hit gold now. But also what I thought was interesting is the Vanquish actually had a much more steady number in jewelry mode then the 600 model which was bouncing all over the place. Definitely bring on more of these kind of videos.
The Vanquish is a water down version of the Equinox. BUT...on the beach it's a hell of a machine!!! Plus you run it almost wide open on the sensitivity and want chatter as much as the Equinox. Especially with hotel and condos that have wifi boosters on there roofs for the customers. Some cellphone providers put cellphone towers on the roofs also which will cause the Equinox to go crazy but not the Vanquish.
I still won't dig ALL those numbers but it is good to know there are goodies hiding in that range... appreciate it dave! Hope you're gettin out there diggin'! I know you are (:
@@TreasureOutdoors my son and I rolled up 118 dollars worth of change today.... that we dug out of the ground ! Well over 300.00 on the year. We've both scored several nice relics, and silver coins and jewlery. This hobby is awesome bro.
Heavy gold rings will read different then pendants. it all depends on how it lays down in the ground.. But with the Equinox you got to dig everything in the gold range. I am going to still test out 10khz when I am out and about.. Put Back on the 6 inch coil and hitting some parks I have been pounding out.. you could have tried 15khz on the 600 to see if higher khz hits gold better..? Try out 10khz in the field...
You are right on dan.. it's crazy it seems the gold range is really at least from 1-20 on the equinox / vanquish.. I bet if the gold was big enough it would read even higher. The ratio is heavily favored in trash in those low numbers but it's good to know there could be goodies hiding in there. I will definitely try out some different khz while I'm out thanks dan 🙏
I'm looking to get the Vanquish 440 and want to know if you can find pure gold nuggets with it even if the nuggets are buried several inches. I'm going to hunt gold in the Mojave Desert. Just wondering if this machine will work.
I am not 100% sure, I know it's not a specialized gold field detector but it does seem to do well on small gold pendants and whatnot for the provided price 👍
It is because of the different tone breaks between modes. The Vanquudh relic and coin modes will miss a lot of small gold because 1 and 2 are shifted into the iron range.
Hi I watch all your videos. You said you live Florida right? So East Coast I’m from the West Coast Washington State so what I would like to know is out of the Legend, Simplex , or Vanquish what would be best for me. Maybe even a Garrett money is tight I will have around $600.

Those are all great points bill, I think all the different types of gold just equates to gold falling under almost any number on any detector just because of all the variation, size shape and karat like you mentioned. That's a great idea bro, and you know what I've done before at the beach.. try out 2 tone mode on the equinox that way even the low numbers sound high. It can be very overwhelming if there are lots of low tones around but it wakes you up for those low tones thats for sure!!! Thanks for watching dude
Cool video! I dig 18s all day with my simplex! Have dug jeweler and tons of relics with those low numbers. I definitely dig more on tone than vdi but look for solid #s that aren't too jumpy. My concern with a vanquish would be missing stuff like trimes, they can ring up in the foil range and coin mode wouldn't even pick it up.
I really need to dig more 18s!! I know at the beach it wasn't ringing a solid 18 in the sand it was more bouncy but it's good to hear you've gotten some goods at those low of numbers! There is more treasure hiding in the trash that's for sure!
Those 16s are often the dreaded pull tab huh 🤣 I bet there is something good hiding at a 16... somewhere... deep in a field of pull tabs... I agree with you, love them both! 😊
Tbh you really have opened mind and I did fined an 1700s silver ring and there were alot of crap too so you really have a great knowledge of the targets
Atleast its solid on the simplex, but foil on my legend is a solid 11 too At least in park its solid 11, in field it jumps around a bit From all my testing i get better results on the legend in park than in field But whenever I see paystreak use the legend he always says he is in field Do you have any opinion on park vs field on the legend?
You don't worry that foil isn't going anywhere 🤣 I don't dig all those numbers all the time but it's good to know there could be jewelry hiding in there!
Absolutely... won't dig those numbers all day but I usually dig a couple of them 😊 depends on the spot usually... more likely to dig those 1s at the beach than at the park thats for sure. Thanks for watching!
I recently started digging everything down to 20 on my simplex after watching one of your test videos . Before that 25 was my lowest vdi I'd dig, now I have to go lower
It pains me to have to dig those but after testing it just confirms the gold is out there and hiding in those numbers!! I won't dig them all.. but I will keep it it mind that it MIGHT not be foil 🤣
My Vanquish 340 seems to do best in jewelry mode on depth even on coins. Not sure why. I haven`t been able to test it here under real conditions due to mentally deranged OCD control freaks.
To be fair, the Vanquish gave a better tone in jewellery mode because, well, it's jewellery. Lets not try and out-think the engineers that design and build these things. The fact that they _detect_ is the plus. Trying to determine what the actual metal is going to be a bit of a crapshoot from the start as there are so many types of alloys no one can test them all for conductivity in every soil condition. Time for the limitations of physics people. These things run on an algorithm, and we see on the daily how often that messes up.
Good points! pretty much to me it just reminds me I'm not completely crazy for digging just about anything that beeps. I know if I am hunting for jewelry I've gotta dig just about every single tone to have the best chance at finding whatever could be out there because of all the variation!
I would have guessed similar! It's actually really unfortunately it reads that low 🤣 still am not gonna dig all those foils lol but sometimes I will... I'm still after a gold chain never dug one yet!
@@TreasureOutdoors yeah dude . I never dug a gold chain either . And to be honest when I’m digging . It all depends on how I feel sometimes I’ll dig them all sometimes I’ll dig high tones . So I guess it’s just a toss up for me
Jewelry mode uses the high frequency around 15kHz for low conductive targets. Coin mode uses the low frequency around 5kHz for high conductive targets. The Simplex is probably running a single frequency between 7 to 13 kHz which hits everything. Gold hits around the VDI like foil to nickels and pulltabs.
I've found 39 rings already this year. Six silvers, two golds. They were both 14k always ring 10 to 12 for 14k. That for a fact is fake! That's reality. I can throw 30 different items made of 14 k never lower than a ten...
Sorry to tell you buddy but you are living in a dream if you think this is fake, I have multiple gold rings reading below ten usually 7-8 and gold pendants that read 3-4. But if you are doing well doing what you are doing I wish you well and continued success!
@@TwoBitTony I will 😁 This isn't to say dig EVERY foil signal but you are dreaming if you think gold doesn't ring below 10 on the equinox. Just being harshly realistic, I am no expert but I know that is blatantly untrue and you are putting false information out there.

I will keep them up man I can respect everyones freedom to so speak and leave comments! I wouldn't put this out if I wasn't sure of it, it is a surprise to me as well but I think it has something to do with the shape. I really need to dig more 18s!! I know at the beach it wasn't ringing a solid 18 in the sand it was more bouncy but it's good to hear you've gotten some goods at those low of numbers! There is more treasure hiding in the trash that's for sure!
Dig most everything with nox but 16. never found anything good with a 16 signal. Also have a Simplex both great machines
Those 16s are often the dreaded pull tab huh 🤣 I bet there is something good hiding at a 16... somewhere... deep in a field of pull tabs... I agree with you, love them both! 😊
It's jewellery, so surely it will give a better tone in jewellery mode rather than coin mode.
Tbh you really have opened mind and I did fined an 1700s silver ring and there were alot of crap too so you really have a great knowledge of the targets
Awesome matthew!!! got to get through the crap to find the treasure thats for sure 🤠
Atleast its solid on the simplex, but foil on my legend is a solid 11 too
At least in park its solid 11, in field it jumps around a bit
From all my testing i get better results on the legend in park than in field
But whenever I see paystreak use the legend he always says he is in field
Do you have any opinion on park vs field on the legend?
Thanks Florida! Now I gotta get back and dig those 18s!! Lol!
You don't worry that foil isn't going anywhere 🤣 I don't dig all those numbers all the time but it's good to know there could be jewelry hiding in there!
@@TreasureOutdoors Lol!
A lot of good jewerly reads 1---upward ... all different. Dig it all.
That's the truth!! Never know when the jewelry or goods will pop out for the longest time I didn't know gold could ring that low...
Good video showing precisely where gold lands, in the gorge of eternal foil. ATB good luck!
Bruh, 0-15 is iron, you should dig everything else
Back to my Tesoro's 🤓🤘
Dig everything
Cool video.
Thanks Trail Hiker! 😁 fun getting out there testing and experimenting!
My Vanquish 340 seems to do best in jewelry mode on depth even on coins. Not sure why. I haven`t been able to test it here under real conditions due to mentally deranged OCD control freaks.
Nice dude!
Those numbers are just what I expected
ty 2.51 in and i have my answer...simplex it is
Gotta be the shape of it and how it's hollow in the back
I agree I think it has something to do with the shape but I have heard of others digging gold rings at 1 before so I am just not sure!
Dig everything dude, you will find all sorts of stuff dude.
Re-experience simplex with aluminum and you'll also get the number 18
Yes!! The gold and aluminum are very similar in number 🙏
best vanquish
Because it’s jewellery??
The Simplex is a great machine.
I agree!! I think I use my simplex the most out of any of my detectors, definitely like using it out at the park.
I found two very heavy 14k rings and a smaller 14k diamond ring in under 35 minutes one day on a freshwater beach using a Bounty Hunter detector.
You're still swinging that BH Junior without stooping over still?
Prove it
FYI it rains a lot in my area and is MF better than SF detector
😁😁😁😁😁😁
Try it in 2 tone on nox. You won’t use multi tone again!
I like 2 tone a lot at the beach makes me dig up everything but that's what I want to be doing! thx wayne
11 is my guess
That's not real 14k gold bud. That's impossible!! I've detected for years, 14k would never do that
I've found 39 rings already this year.
If you want to dig trash all day, have fun.
@@TwoBitTony I will 😁 This isn't to say dig EVERY foil signal but you are dreaming if you think gold doesn't ring below 10 on the equinox. Just being harshly realistic, I am no expert but I know that is blatantly untrue and you are putting false information out there.
Dude, I'm telling you. If it has real diamonds that you've tested, then the rhodium has wore off of this piece and that's why it might ringing at a two. I'm not giving out false information. Keep my comments up please. Good luck hunting
I will keep them up man I can respect everyones freedom to so speak and leave comments! I wouldn't put this out if I wasn't sure of it, it is a surprise to me as well but I think it has something to do with the shape. If you haven't seen it check out merrils video from Metal Detecting NYC called "The Minelab Equinox Target ID Bible" you'll see on a small scale how wide the gold target VDI can vary. Happy hunting!
