      Thanks! I've been working on refining and upgrading my gear...it takes time to understand what to focus on and where the changes will matter the most. I'm getting closer each and every day! Thanks for watching!

    Awesome video! If I could give a tip for your bladder bag, I'd recommend wrapping your extra cloth pieces around your bladder for extra protection from being poked and damaged plus it helps with less direct sunlight as well

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  8 років тому

      Does the bladder sweat and get your clothes wet? I guess that's the only thing that I would worry about.

    • @JJGL13
      @JJGL13 8 років тому

      +outer limitless you wouldn't use your clothes but those extra square cloth pieces you have with you or your bandana or the piece of that material you have that is also on your table top/video staging area
      Wrap that around your bladder for better protection since it's not carried in your actual pack, or even if you do decide to keep in in your bag it'll help give it an extra layer of protection just in case something in your bag puts pressure on it potentially giving the possibility to be punctured
      But I've never had a problem with bladder sweat, but if there is it's very minimal and dries quickly
      But since you carry your bladder outside your pack anyways, you shouldn't have to worry about bladder sweat
      But wrapping your bladder with in a cloth of some sort gives it that extra layer of protection from being punctured, sliced and any human error mishaps lol

    All good gear good choices in water filtration, extra clothing, & shelter system.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  8 років тому +1

      Thanks, I'm starting to really like this gear. I'm in love with my hammock. The filter has been solid, but I find it clogs rather easily in the pre-filter. I think the next time I bring it, I will bring two pre-filters and I'll backwash them at home with fresh water. The last time I went, my filter was rendered basically useless after two days with no way to clear it. The water source was less than perfect, but that's what we were up against.
      I always struggle with how little clothes to bring. I find I overpack every time and I don't use all my clothes...I'm making the effort to bring less in that department.
      Anyhow, thanks as always for watching and your comments, good stuff!!

      Good reminder about the filter- maintenance/washing
      & yeah clothes are tricky to choose . Better a few to many then not enough I guess.

    A good thing to do when you're still relatively new is to make a list of every item you pack before a trip. When you get back put a check mark next to everything that you used. Anything without a check mark, excluding emergency stuff, should be considered for removal. BTW, that is a ginormous pan. I bet you could find a cast iron pan lighter than that sucker. :)

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  7 років тому

      I really like the idea of the list and checking off what was used...that's definitely a pretty cool idea. Yeah, the pan is large, but my hammock system nests nicely inside of it, and it's saved my ass when I need to boil drinking water...for example, I'm heading into the mountains Friday, and the only drinking water will be snow...it takes a lot of snow to make a decent amount of water, so having the large pot will come in handy. I don't always bring it...just certain occasions.
      Anyway...thanks for watchin!

    thanks again! great upgrades. im lovin the saw

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  8 років тому

      Thanks...ya I really like this saw a ton. I've used it for a little
      while now and it's great. I prefer it to the folding saws and it's
      actually lighter because there are no locks or mechanisms...even with
      the sheath. The added length is helpful comparing it to my pocketboy.

    • @errolflynn7723
      @errolflynn7723 7 років тому

      I love the saw also, great list of gear too! Just had to mention though that the silky gomboy is comparable in length and is also lighter, so is the ultra accel from silky. Even though there are lock mechanisms, it is no comparison to the weight of a sheath. Sorry, just had to point that out because the comment may be misleading to anyone looking to purchase a saw. No disrespect meant. Again great video, looking forward to more 2017 adventures!

    Just my thoughts and might help ya out. Depending on your food choices, I've never really needed a big pot, my toaks does what I need. (Boil 2 cups of water). Atlas straps are heavy, maybe consider whoopies/ continuous loop for suspension. I have a fire bag, but also put backups in other places incase I lose it. Baby box tucked in a pocket somewhere. Before filling your bag, place a heavy duty trash compactor bag inside. If it rains Your stuff will never get wet. Think of it as a waterproof shield in your bag. Recently I tried alcohol stoves after being a canister guy forever and wish I'd changed sooner. So much less space and pretty easy too. No more extra half ful cans laying around. Just my 2 cents off the top of my head. Hope it helps

      @outerlimitless  8 років тому

      john lahmer
      The only reason why I carry the pot is because I'm still not confident with the filter being my only water solution. I feel like with the pot I still have a chance at boiling a decent volume. I have committed to changing from atlas straps to tree huggers as my hammock has amsteel whoopee slings.
      I love the trash bag idea, I need to do that for sure!

  • @EDCAdventures
    @EDCAdventures 8 років тому

    Great pack load out. You could fix the holes with tenacious tape or a similar item. You could save some weight by using a titanium coolest like toaks. I own the Stanley too and it's a great pot but it's a bit heavy. Especially since you carry that bigger aluminum pot. I love carrying a shemagh so many uses from a towel to layering. Really love that little lantern!

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  8 років тому

      Ya, I need to upgrade my cook set. it's a work in progress. I feel like I need the pot if I need to boil water, having a decent size pot is helpful. it has me a bit weary about not having a pot with me. maybe in time I'll realize I don't need it.

  • @lokeshdevraj826
    @lokeshdevraj826 8 років тому

    Good update. You seem to have really cut down on the pack weight. It's perfect now! Do try swapping the aluminium pot for a titanium one :)

  • @jesusguevara6458
    @jesusguevara6458 7 років тому

    You can fix the holes upfront with a hypalon waterproof patch these are available in a sew on or adhesive backed versions that u iron on.i would go with the sew on.

      Thanks! I just released a new gear loadout video with a new bag. I am going to try to send my Atmos back to Osprey and I'm hoping that it can be repaired.

  • @johannesbrahms9528
    @johannesbrahms9528 8 років тому

    I've used cuben fiber tape (available from ZPacks) for repairs on a variety of materials. It's super strong stuff and cheaper than you'd think. They also sell patches. If you email ZPacks I'm sure they'll tell you a good solution, even if it's not their product. If you use tape or a patch, use two - one on each side.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  8 років тому +1

      You're the man! K, I'll look into that for sure. I was thinking it would need to be something with a thin material...something like typical tape seemed too thick to me. My ground cloth could use a piece or two also...good stuff! Thanks!

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  8 років тому

      I thought about that...I was nervous it would act funny where that is such a stretchy material that it would stress at the stitches of the patch, but I bet if I put a backing on the patch it would work.

    My gear is always being updated. My last trip was 35lbs with food and water. and i have a new snow peak hybrid summit solo cookset in titanium coming

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  8 років тому

      nice, I feel like 35 lbs is obtainable. I have to be close at this point. I'm thinking water must be around 8 lbs. I generally have 3.5 litres between my canteen and water bladder. that's if I don't have plentiful water supply. and food must be about 7-8 lbs.

    to repair holes in the mesh pocket or on any part of a backpack take a piece of duct tape stick it on the inside of the hole and then sew the part that has been ripped , and mesh pockets on backpack tend to tear like Silk so try not to leave them face to pointy rocks or branches

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  8 років тому

      Nice, good technique. That might get me by for a bit...I'm still gonna try to get it permanently repaired by Osprey, but that's a decent sounding repair.

    How about patching with KT tape? It will flex with the pouch. Would probably hold it until you send to Osprey some day.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  7 років тому

      I'll check out the KT tape...I haven't done anything yet. Osprey kinda turned me off a bit...sounds like they just make an attempt at stitching the mesh...and they don't really guarantee the repair. Plus, I would need to ship the bag to them, which is gonna be somewhat pricey. I might just make my own repair for it...

    Just a suggestion. Dont carry anything strapped outside the bag. Im an American living in the Philippines. Foilage are like little fingers unstrapping your gear. Also on Alone one guy lost his axe that was strapped to his back pack.
    I have a SnugPak Rocket pack. side pouches hold my Silky Saw and heavy choppers. Machete is on my belt. Tripod fits in the bag.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  7 років тому

      I have tried to slim my kit down even more and have tried to eliminate carrying gear on the outside. Can you even imagine losing your AXE??? Damn that would be a bummer!

    How do you insulate the bottom of the hammock?

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  8 років тому

      90% of the time I don't need insulation. When it was really cold, I used my Sea to Summit Micro 3 as a cocoon around the hammock. That sleeping bag is unique where it has a drawstring foot box. I bought it specifically for that purpose. I lasted the night in almost -10F this past March. Check out my video on "Kinsman Pond"...it was nuts!

      outer limitless Ok:) Maybe the weather is more stabil and more warm where you live? Here it was sunny and a little warm today, and yesterday i woke up to snow:) So I have learned over the years, to always use a waterproof pack bag around my sleeping bag and other essentials:)

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  7 років тому +1

      I wrote to them...they said they just stitch up the mesh. No exactly what I was hoping for. I guess I have to weigh my ability to stitch it up with their ability, and it will cost me the shipping to get it to them. It's a big bag, so probably $30 to ship it. I figure I can patch it up almost as well and that's gonna be good enough. Haven't done it yet, but I'm gonna try...maybe I'll make a video about it...we'll see!!

      I'm a bit over 6 feet...closer to 6'1". I'm down to 180 right now...heavy meds for Lyme Disease. I had a tough summer...didn't make many of my hikes without significant struggles. I don't think i've missed a summit in a long time and I missed a couple this year. Brutal!! But the way I look at it is that I'm still gonna stick with it, get as far as I can, and enjoy nature. It's like the saying, "it's not about the destination, it's how you get there"...well for me, it's like "it's not about the destination, it's about being out there". That's all you need to worry about is trying and enjoying where ever you are...if you rest, you rest...fact is, you are on the trail.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  7 років тому

      Their repair on the mesh is not ideal...I spoke with their reps...basically they just sew the mesh and they can't guarantee that it will take. Not great...so maybe the patch idea is the best!?!?!

    • @dominicnikon6276
      @dominicnikon6276 7 років тому

      I don't know about the patch idea because I have only been backpacking once and the bag i got was a 70L osprey and every one told me how good the warranty was.

    • @outerlimitless
      @outerlimitless  7 років тому

      Dunno...I spoke with them directly...they'll fix it, but what is it worth. I need to pay to send the bag...that's minimum $25. Plus, they only stitch the mesh and cannot guarantee the repair...not a great situation.

      Yeah, it's just that outer pouch that is like a mesh. It's too bad because the rest of the bag is pretty solid. That's definitely the weakness.

    • @MrAjusog
      @MrAjusog 7 років тому

      outer limitless i suppose it is pretty awesome, at least the weakness isnt something major critical like the shoulder strap tearing or the seams popping at inopportune times.
