I know this comment is over a year old at this point but my grandad loved the look of spiral and new I was a saw fan. We saw it together and both enjoyed it. Even though it’s far from my favourite film in the franchise it’s the one that means the most to me as not only was it the first saw film I was old enough to see in theatres but it was also the last film we saw in cinemas together before he passed.
Man, the idea that Jigsaw inspired a bunch of terrible copy cats that get caught every week or month would be so cool. Like, people just become used to this madness. That’s such a good premise and a neat way to have some dark comedy in Saw without ruining the themes of the franchise like Chris Rock wanted. Also that ending idea you guys had would’ve been fun.
I’m not a big saw fan, the most Iv seen of the moves is the PMI saw marathon video… but isn’t that essentially the premise of all the saws after the first one?? Like with that Amanda girl… and that one cop… and shit like that?? Or were they just more of the main guys assistances rather than inspired fans?
@@joey_ferrari24 they were his assistants, yeah. Knew him personally rather than being just fans. But it was still essentially a cult, just not super expanded on. I think a series could be cool! Especially with the twist the guys thought up. I like the idea of the good guys outsmarting a jigsaw copycat.
This movie got the FEEL of a modern Saw movie right, I think. Next time they just need a smarter script/story. But I think DLB still has it in terms of directing a Saw movie. Seeing those quick cuts again was such a treat. I'll never not love it
I'm just sitting here nodding my head thinking "yeah, that would've been soo fucking dope" honestly reversing the "game over" line for the cops would be incredible
Chris rock as a cop, in this movie makes me feel this is just a live action horror remake of osmosis jones. without the biology. He even has the sunglasses and beard. The only thing missing is him making horror movie puns instead of body puns.
Fuck, now I kinda want there to be a live action remake of Osmosis Jones. You can’t just let lightning like that out of the bottle, why’d you put it in the air like that?
The script for “SPIRAL” is the most inept part of the movie, I think. It reminds me of the horror stuff that I wrote in 7th grade. Back when I also didn’t understand police work or how human beings behave.
I’m so glad that you can tell Eric likes the movie. Even if it isn’t the top 3 of SAW movies, it’s definitely a better spin-off than JIGSAW. Would rather see Spiral 2 than Jigsaw 2
lol i love jigsaw way more than this, script wise , visually ah this is better but narrative this is one of the worst movies i’ve ever seen. not to mention how bad the acting is
I want nothing more than just one heroic "Game over" in this series, I just want the good guy to just close a sliding door right onto the antagonists fucking head at the end of the movie.
I saw this in the cinema and the only good part was when a family with small children walked in during a torture scene and sat down for 10 minutes watching it before they realised and asked me if they was watching Peter rabbit
I cackled for an unreasonably long time at "OR DO YOU?!" at 4:17. Just the thought of Samuel L Jackson magicking a gun out of your hand into his is so fucking funny to me
you guys calling the new jigsaw voice "shitty kylo ren" was so accurate lol, and yes i agree it should've been like its own movie and not tied to saw cause it has NOTHING to do with saw, maybe if it was just a cop movie it would've been better
Someone let Eric direct a Saw movie PLEEEEEASE this man has so much passion for this series and the ideas with how it should have ended are absolutely goated!
I've never been a fan of the Saw franchise, but man is it nice seeing the OG PMI crew getting so into this and writing a better movie AS they're watching.
They were going to make that first but some head executives met chris rock at a wedding and chris told them that he wanted to be in a saw or horror movie and they told the producers to through out what they already had planned which would be like a jigsaw 2 but mainly focused on John Cramer
I love how the second Chris Rock expressed any interest in making a Saw movie the writers were like “Fuck the Jigsaw 2 shit let’s do that!” Because they knew they had a better shot making an entirely new movie rather than make the sequel to Jigsaw good.
Detective Dury was actually supposed to have a trap in the movie but he’s death was so gruesome that they had to cut. It involved he’s face being ripped off. That’s why half way through you never see him again
I literally knew Max Minghella’s rookie cop character was the villain. Literally the first movies I saw him in he either didn’t last long in the movie or he was the villain.
the best pmi episodes are when it's just them complaining about the movie and trailing off on better hypotheticals and don't even pay attention to what's going on in the fucking film
This shit just has everything I love in a Saw movie. Great traps, corny writing, green cinematography, insane ending, batshit crazy yet understandable villain, bad acting, lots of blood, lots of guts, and a hell of a lot of gore = 10/10 Saw sequel
Spiral was the first movie I saw in theaters after lockdown and also the first horror movie I watched by myself in theaters. This commentary made my LIFE
Absolutely hate how you guys came up with an infinitely better ending and premise in the amount of time it took to watch this movie that took years to make
Your pitches for this movie are INSANE! It makes me even angrier now that I know that your pitch exists xDD and that this film could have been so much better
Finally got around to watching this highlight reel, I loved the version of the movie you guys workshopped even more! 😂 Always happy to see the boys back together for a commentary track ❤
Honestly ending it with Chris Rock getting the upper hand and knowing what was going on would have been great. Basically saying no one can compare to the original Tobin Bell Jigsaw.
They could’ve made the twist a lot better by not showing that “Charlie” tattoo and just have Schnek dressed up in the pig costume and Zeke asks him who he is and then have Schnek take the mask off. It would’ve been better this way, but I want to hear everyone else’s suggestions.
I would LOVE their twist on the Saw trope, espeically when it's a reveal that most people figured out already (that the partner was alive), and you could potentially make this new iconic protagonist, like the Anti-Jigsaw where he's like this new type of detective trope, Dirty Harry + Sherlock Holmes + pulp noir. But that's only if the protagonist character is just THAT GOOD, which I don't know if you can really fully plan. Like if The Shadow went up against Jigsaw and just stomped him.
I’ve been waiting for this specific track since I saw the movie back in May. This is my 5th time watching the video lol. Always love a good laugh from Eric. If they make another Saw movie please have these 2 join you again. This and the jigsaw tracks crack me up!
the plot of a cop taking down a cocky jigsaw copycat is such a good plot for a saw movie. every time the cops lose but for this one the main detective would have cracked it almost instantly, its such a good premise. call the movie HackSaw and you got big bucks
I love the twist on the twist you guys came up with but you need to make sure that even though Chris Rock figures it all out and is ahead of the dude, Samuel Jackson still needs that iconic death. Having mfing SLJ dying from a Jigsaw trap and such a relevant one, is kind of my favorite part.
I’d love to see a sequel pick up right as the door is about to shut. The swat team sees Sam Jackson’s body, and figures what they’ve done, Chris Rock yells “NOOO”. But right after, he punches one of them, takes their gun, and slides it under the door, catching the gate. He sprints over, lifts the gate, grabs the gun, and jumps down the elevator shaft onto the car and begins unloading the rifle down into the lift, hitting his partner with a bullet. The whole movie is a real time 90 minute thriller of Chris Rock running through the city to catch his partner, revealing a gauntlet of traps along the way that he has to save people from. The difference being, Chris Rock has the slight upper hand by injuring his partner in the beginning. It’d be a nice subversion to the typical end of the door shutting, and that being the end of it for the hero.
100% agree with you guys -- that would be a great twist!! I think films with twist villains are always too scared to reveal the villain until the third act, when if we knew halfway though it could actually be way more thrilling because we'd be actively helping the protagonist outsmart them. It's no fun when everyone except the main character sees the twist coming.
In the movie, where the head of police goes into the evidence room where she meats the copycat, Zeke is lured away by an officer down being attacked by a man in a pig mask. My theory is that there might be another person working with the copycat, considering its deemed far enough for the trap to be set up and completed, Also how would a rookie know so much about the crimes the cops got away with. You could assume it's another homeless guy or something. I think they might have a modern approach to Spiral, making a movie with answers coming in a conclusion in the form of a trilogy or something similar.
The jigsaw copy cat sounds like dan mintz who plays Tina in bobs burgers lmao

You've got to check out Cruel Summer, you'd love it! It's actually well acted 13 Reasons Why meets a kidnapping mystery like Outer Banks told from multiple people's view points non-linearly in 1993, 1994 and 1995. I could actually hear your screams all the way through as I watched!
The dumbest piece of this puzzle was the line "Let me borrow your phone. Mine's charging." It's so obvious that he's the villain, and he's gonna do something with the phone. The only other purpose for the line would've been as a misdirect, and it would've been the only one in the movie.
Yeah James from Dead Meat I, believed said there was 2 traps that were cut out. This would probably mean that the first part of the movie would have just been a cop mystery movie having it play out like it did, then when Zeke(Chris Rock) wake up and find hid old partner it would of became more of a saw film.
