Medalling? Try _Gold_ Medalling. Palacios is the only one with a shot of beating her in the snatch (with a _perfect_ day on her part, and likely also requiring Reeves to miss). And no one who will be in the field is in the same league as Reeves in the clean-and-jerk. I'm just praying for good health for her between now and Paris. Nothing else will stop her.
Wow! I do not think l have ever seen an athlete crush three snatches in a row with such speed and precision while also beating their PR. I bet she could have done at least 3 or 4kg more. What a performance!
She had the world record snatch in her today, and another 5kg+ in the clean-and-jerk. And she'll likely be better in Paris. Her _trajectory_ would have been enough for the Chinese to not send Liao Guifang, even _if_ she'd made her lifts to win today. Now? There is no version of reality in which the Chinese will send Liao. Also, this qualification process, and the corresponding athlete-pool restrictions are an absolute travesty. This World Cup will end up being _TEN_ times the competition that the Olympics will be, and that's just wrong.
Have to agree - this World Cup is, for weightlifting, the competition the Olympics should have been. That Liao won't get to go to Paris, for one example among many, is a crying shame. With only 3 athletes China certainly won't send her now, which robs us all of the rematch. I like the top 10 qualifiers process. I do not like the 3 athlete cap, or the one per country cap. Only one of Rahmat and Rizki? Why ruin this for all of us?!? Olivia certainly looked like she had a 121/152 in there today. That said, her caution and execution kept all the pressure on her opponents. (I doubt she'll be opening at 112 again for a while though 😂)
Never been so excited for The US weightlifting. Can’t believe im actually saying the sentence…..The sport has been for so long looked at,as a secondary Competition business.
cue Nancy Wilson singing "These Dreams"....every moment I'm awake the further I'm away.... I can say that I have DREAMT of snatching so extraordinarily well!
While I love this result for Olivia, it's almost a shame that this happened here, in front of a relatively small audience of weightlifting fans. While this does make her a strong favourite for gold at the Olympics, and an Olympic gold would be amazing regardless, imagine the hype if this sort of battle had happened on the Olympic stage.
@@jeffw1267Are you on crack? She just crushed the strongest field of the quad here, and North Korea and China won't even be in the Olympics now. Who, exactly, is going to beat her at the Olympics? Seb and Max both said during the session that Reeves is likely to win both the snatch and C&J in Paris _on her opening lifts!!!_ Leaving Seb aside, do you think you know weightlifting better than _Max?!?_ I think Palacios can make Reeves need to make a second snatch for the win in Paris... Other than that, no one in the field will be able to trouble her even that much.
@jeffw1267 North Korea are ineligible for Olympic qualification. China have the number one ranked lifter in all five Olympic categories, but they can only send three women, and the other four Chinese women are more dominant in their respective categories, so China will almost certainly not send Liao Guifang. Olivia totalled 268 here, the next biggest total from 2024 is 246. Of the remaining eligible lifters only Angie Palacios and Loredana Toma have surpassed 250 this cycle, Toma did it with 256 in 2022 and has been steadily downhill ever since. Angie is Olivia's biggest threat, she did 261 a year ago and has mostly been around 245-250 since then, possibly saving energy. Regardless, Olivia has consistently been on an upward trend. Anything can happen, but my money is firmly on the American.
Definitely a smart move & choice in numbers to secure her spot on the podium. But I think she was definitely capable of 120! Just so strong and effortless! 💪🏽
Reeves also has the PERFECT height/ weight proportions(and physique) - to do what she needs to do to WIN in this Weight Lifting ( Weight Category ) Competition .
_Definitely_ the best lifter in the US program - men's or women's team - when you factor in the combination of strength and technique across both lifts.
It's you 😂 Her proportions make her look taller than she is. She's actually shorter than Liao Guifang when you see them standing in a lineup. And she's _way_ shorter than Toma.
@@popcorn32145 If it makes you feel any better I thought the same thing. I just looked it up, she's 5'9. But yeah her proportions made me think she was like 6'1 😅
@@e2rqey What 😂 At 5'9 she'd be in the 81s (Or she'd be wayyy skinnier). If you have access to the full session, you can see her standing next to Giulia Miserendino who's listed as 170 cm (5'7) and she looks significantly shorter. She's 5'5 at the most.
Вот пример, как спокойно планомерно сделала свою работу, тогда как китаянка пытаясь поставить рекорд не справилась. Главное чем выделяется Оливия это видимый огромный потенциал на несколько сезонов вперёд.

God himself would struggle to comprehend the greatness of this moment. The universe may very well end now, having completed its sole purpose. I can see people around me are disintegrating from abject terror..."
My man has been saying "this is the most anticipated session of the tournament" every session since the M61 lmao I think he only refrained during the W64, but you could tell he had to fight back the urge 🤣
It seems like some combination of an issue with her right arm, and confidence. Also, she may just have passed her peak. Toma is another example of someone who couldn't come with 20 kilos of her best performances from a couple of years ago.

Reeves crushed it in the clean and jerk, too. She was ON today.
Goog Lord... she is so smooth and fluid. Making 118kgs look like 100lbs. Amazing!!!!!
All Hail the Goog Lord, the One who is smooth and fluid.
she looks INCREDIBLE!!!! You can feel her confidence.
She is incredible
She had more. That was nuts. She smoked it.
Beauty, technique, confidence, insane power, and always consistent...
Of all our athletes, I think the USA should be most proud of Olivia Reeves.
Nah. Hampton Morris. And I hope you don’t mean “beauty” in the way that she looks. She looks like a bridge troll. Her technique is a thing of beauty
Reeves: Oh, is it time for my attempt? Alrightie *proceeds to turn gravity off*
Good grief she’s incredible

Another incredible session and very dramatic. So happy for Olivia. USA actually have a real chance at medaling at the Olympics now.
She is no doubt favorite by wide margin for gold now. Neither silver nor bronze in this comp will compete in Paris.

commentary is top level
The last snatch of 118 kg by Olivia was so beautifully executed that it brought tears of joy to my eyes.
That Reeves perfomance was absolutely unreal. She was just ON it for the whole session.
Wow! I do not think l have ever seen an athlete crush three snatches in a row with such speed and precision while also beating their PR. I bet she could have done at least 3 or 4kg more. What a performance!
Wow! So much more in tank. Speed speed speed. Incredible. Let's go!
Those weights comically look fake when she lifts them. That's how good she is ❤
forreal. Once she's under it, it looks like she's just standing up. It's wild
Una vez que acomoda el peso lo sube fácil por que tiene mucha fuerza en la pierna y en el core
Exactly, you realize these weights are insanely heavy when other competitors lift them...
She made that look easy!
Olivia Reeves lifts 118 kg as easily as I would lift five lbs. And that thousand-watt smile! What power!
That 118 looked like an opener
The amount of power she still has in reserve has got to be intimidating to the rest of the field.... 😮
She had the world record snatch in her today, and another 5kg+ in the clean-and-jerk.
