The Burmese grape is found in hot places in Yunnan. Local people like hot and sour food and are good at using sour fruits as ingredients in their cooking. The Burmese grape is the most inconspicuous among many wild sour fruits, with a large pip and less pulp. But there are still many people like me who have a soft spot for it. The Burmese grape is most abundant in Banna. I picked some of each color, and made liquor soaked with Burmese grape for grandpa. I also made a Burmese grape mayonnaise and drizzled it on a giant hamburger. It’s really delicious and made me happy!

Your dedication and hard work in preparing every meal for your family is beyond compare. When I was a child I used to watch my aunties with our neighbours preparing food for visitors and I really enjoyed it when the food was ready everyone was feasting on it. What you are doing is indeed the proper way of cooking using all the fresh ingredients from your garden prepared and served with pure delight. We cannot find this food in the supermarket ...😁😁

Have you heard of the term Shangri-la? It means paradise and utopia. And it’s believed that the region that inspired the creation of this term is located somewhere over a large mountainous area in Sichuan and Yunnan south of the Tibetan Plateau. So historically, Yunnan has been known in China as a fantastic land rich with countless kinds of fruit and wild edibles, ideal climates and beautiful natures. The environment is truly utopia like. With hard work, ppl will never runout of foods to eat here. But it’s generally not enough to earn enough cash to support a modern life style. Youth will have to travel far for higher education, couples in there 20s, 30s ~ are typically working in a far away town to earn money for kids education, rebuilding a new family home etc. so the villages are mostly occupied by the elderly and kids under 12 throughout most of the year, except for during the big holidays when the bread earners come back for reunion. Apenjie and her large extended family are fortunate few that can sustain a lifestyle in which many of its family members are probably self employed through being part of her team and thus not having to leave for work in big cities. Apenjie was one of the young people initially left the village for college and then stayed in a metro plot city Chengdu for work. Then one her parents became ill. She made the decision to come home to look after her parents and grandparents, while explore different ways of making some income living in the middle of nowhere. Gradually, her one man show became profitable, I can see in her vlogs that her income started to transform the family’s life. Also, her success is so great that she was able to get more of her family member to become a “full time” member of the production. Hence, you see a large family able to enjoys meals together very often. They are most likely the rare few families in the area that can afford to have most family members close by due to their unique circumstances.
The beauty of the nature, the abundance of natural resources are all true, unlike any other places on earth. But to be able to enjoy its “ fruits”, still takes lots and lots of hard work. It looks like she often has to travel for hours and even days to harvest or pick the ingredients she uses. Her family plot always seems to be well tended to. I wish I was born in Yunnan, but I must be born a tireless worker just like Apenjie to be able to get to all that goodness that Yunnan has to offer on their magical land.😅

In Bangladesh 🇧🇩 we call it Lotkon. It melts in your mouth when you put it and has a seed inside every fruit. It’s a sour and sweet fruit & is very short seasoned.

Okay I just googled the health benefits of Burmese grapes and I swear I am astounded every time about how incredibly healthy and beneficial fruits found in China can be... This one in particular even helps with nausea (something I suffer from a lot) and I don't like having to take medicine for it (I hate taking meds period) I'm always looking for natural ways to handle my health conditions and overall health. Definitely want to try this fruit if I'm able to...now if I can only find a fruit that helps with swelling and fluid retention...

This is my all time favourite fruit! I've got so many wild childhood memories with it, even some good beatings from my mom included while trying to climb the trees many times 😅 we called it Tapiak Thai in our local dialect and ours is a little more bigger and yellowish white and comes with mostly four segments.
