I’ve had a HomePod mini as my tv speaker since 2021. It’s been perfect for my small space. It’s paired to Apple TV 4K and I am getting a second one for a stereo pair.
I’m thinking about it because I like apple and the aesthetic is cool. Although I don’t like that it doesn’t automatically connect with Spotify and that the cable doesn’t disconnect.
I have ten in my HomeKit home and generally love them. The hard wired cord can be an issue but telling Siri to play music everywhere makes up for that. I have found an issue with one pair where they come on at night by them selves and so far apple has not been able to provide a solution. But being able to easily set timers alarms, and control devices it just wonderful. And in my opinion the sound quality is the best available for this size group. The thread feature provides very quick response, and the have proven to be very stable with no no response issue ever, which is more than I can say for some of my over priced Hue products. In my opinion a great product with beautiful design for a fair price.
I have two of these for the stereo effect. It works great with my iPhone XR. Good sound with no delays in getting connected. I also have a Macbook Pro from 2014. It will work with playing Apple Music via the Macbook, but it is not unusual for only one speaker to work. With a lot of switching from computer speakers back to the Mini pods, and forwarding to the next song, the second speaker will eventually play. Sometimes it works right away. Even Apple Music takes awhile to get started on my Macbook. Perhaps it's too old. I also have Apple TV. Even with my television turned off, Apple TV connects to the Minis and starts playing. I had to go into Apple TV and change settings to keep this from happening. Overall, great sound and good response from Siri. These are definitely designed to work with the iPhone, not the Macbook. Glad I made the purchase!
We had a 1st gen Echo in our master bathroom for listening to music in the morning ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxABghAEkaIDGZfHRBH3D3rBrlraNmnC71 and while in the shower. I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

What I want is a dedicated desk speaker with the Apple eco system. I want to primarily use it on my Mac mini for video output sound and similar. Not sure if this is possible in addition to its basic functions designed for…thanks for the review.
Just got the Mini and I think the sound is pretty mediocre. It sounds like a $40-50 speaker. The noise is muffled and when it gets loud, everything blends together. I don’t hate it, it does what it needs to. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it though. It does look cool…
With Apple TV4K - I don’t get it. Either my Samsung TV has great built in speakers or my mini was built on a Friday before a long weekend. We are an Apple household, have been for 20 years and this is the first product that just feels weak. The sound just doesn’t sound as full, the bass has decent depth for a small speaker and the highs are crisp enough but if just isn’t as rich. I’ve tried running the mini and TV speakers together but it won’t sync. Maybe there is a setting but I don’t know if I feel like digging. To me the sound isn’t even as robust as my old wireless Bose Sound Linc Mini. I will be retuning it. Something I’ve never done.

Yes. See the paragraph on "Protocols" here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirPlay : "The stream is buffered for approximately 2 seconds before playback begins, resulting in a small delay before audio is output after starting an AirPlay stream". The delay would be noticeable if for instance you tried to watch a private video on VLC with audio connected to HomePod Minis over AirPlay.
OK. That question is why I am watching this review. It will sync with video after 2 seconds but not with Blizzard D3, it is a constant 2 second delay in game play. This product has been out for two years, surely Apple understands the issue but they keep selling it. I have had mine hooked up for just 6 hours and I am not sure what I will do.

lol and they do a great job of hiding the wire so good that the people at Best Buy when I went were confused lol because the cheaper models from there competitors are wires lol apple 🍎 dropped the ball on this for no reason ? My sons $30 speaker is wires come on apple thats bullsh*t they setting up a date to drop the wire less model for future date

That's Spotify's fault. They just don't want to be on the homepod.

Definitely plan on picking some up to pair with my Mac Mini.

I’ve got these little tripod, sort of stands for mine that actually make the base response sound a little more punchier than sitting flat on the desk

I have 9 of them. They only work if you use 6 or less at a time. Otherwise I like them.

Yes in most cases there is sadly.

Yes you can, however you cannot ask Siri to play it.
Try placing the mini upside down when playing and you will be surprised how the sound improves especially within low frequency range.
