I live in the Philippines and own a Suzuki D63 Kei truck. 5 speed, 4 WD with 4 high and 4 low. We live on one of the small remote islands. While many roads are cement, many more are very, very poor. I have never been stuck anywhere. I've been up and down some pretty steep grades too. Through the woods, over old rice fields, and along many rutted, twisting trails. Never been stuck anywhere.
I also own a ranch in mendez cavite in the Philippines. I mainly use a suzuki surplus from japan to carry forage for cows and it’s very great and fuel efficient but i use a ford f150 to tow livestock and flatbed trailers because the truck can handle it perfectly. Both have their own uses. But my personal car is a toyota land cruiser 😂

My side yard is that steep or maybe a bit steeper. Now that I built the floor of the shed, it's too narrow for a full size pickup nut my 4WD Hijet is narrow enough to fit. It has well worn street tires but had no trouble climbing out of there after I cut down a tree, piled it ten feet over the bed, cinched it down even with the top of the cab and hanging eight feet out the back of the full size bed. I drove it to the compost pad at the dump. The 4WD Hijet is an incredibly practical little truck and everyone who sees it loves it.
@@dagneytaggart7707 - Adding 1100 pounds to the 1500 pound kei truck along with my 230 pounds and probably 20 pounds of tools and stuff definitely slows the already slow acceleration, but honestly, it already accelerates so slowly that even less acceleration wasn't all that noticeable. 😀 I didn't bother putting a receiver on the back because anything I'd want to tow would be a fair amount of weight in a trailer and that's not happening. I have a 4Runner for that. I can see using a kei truck to tow smaller loads off road, such as a hay wagon, sprayer, generator, air compressor, et cetera, or maybe light loads slowly on the road such as a float in the town parade. When I stacked ten feet of limbs on the bed and cinched them down even with the top of the cab and had them hanging 8 feet out the back of the 6 foot long bed, I could tell a difference when driving but it was more related to aerodynamic drag than the weight. Added weight results in slower acceleration. Adding weight and drag causes slower acceleration and a lower top speed. Even that ridiculous load wasn't any real trouble for the Hijet. I wish I could attach an image showing the limbs before I cinched them down. It was hilarious - like those pictures of ants carrying stuff three times their size.

Put a 4" lift and add aggressive heavy UTV tires in it, and you can run it headlights deep in mud / snow and it still pulls. There's on our family farm and it's unstoppable.
We here in the Philippines even converted this into a public transport vehicle because they're so strong and saves alot of gas. Like these converted kei vehicles can accomodate 10 up to 16 people depends on the chassis size. Filipino size basis that is since our bodies our quite a bit small.

Boeing owns several Kei Trucks that they use to move parts from one area to the other and to haul supplies to aircrafts when customers are coming for their test flights in the aircraft they purchased before taking delivery.
Had a client drive me around his property in one of these things. Had some pretty wild topography. We ran through a swampy bottom, up a 40ft incline that had to be pushing a 30 or 40% grade, and through all sorts of uneven, winding, narrow trails. I definitely wanna save up for one on my own homestead.
They make a lot of sense, but as a European, I can’t imagine these in any traditional American farm setting. Having said that, Bobby Ewing drove an SL Mercedes, just like mine was when I lived in a stately home in rural England. By that time, German and Japanese cars (especially the Subaru Outback) became a regular part of the rural landscape.
Daihatsu dissapeared from european market a long time ago, so they probably were so good that they kept driving without the need to buy a new one. Daihatsu for life ❤️
My dad got a killer deal on like 40 of these back in the early 2010s. We bought them and they came in shipping containers stacked on top of each other and our goal was to use them as UTV farm vehicles, and that's what we did. We used about 15 of them, and sold the other 25 to other farmers in the area, I didn't even realize how cool these trucks were as a kid, and I got to thrash them around on the farm, and learn how to drift and do stupid shit in them. Also they have a very low center of gravity due to the engine position in the vehicle, very nice handling truck. I think we still have maybe five or six of them that run. Anyways enough of my brain barf
I don’t know why focus surprise given the parts of Japan are pretty mountainous, so they make trucks which can cope with the local conditions in terms of a row capabilities. They’re not pretty, but they are practical. You can see the attraction for somebody operating in a small town, or a village, needing a run about. And also for farm work where you don’t necessarily need a huge truck but just something which will do the job. Going forward when finally they get high capacity and less environmentally damaging batteries. I can see farmers having win, turbines and other cleaner sources of energy and then simply powering trucks like this of a battery.
Actual TRUE 4 wheel drive/4x4 is somethin most don't 100% understand. They see a 4x4 sticker & think all 4 wheels are powered. Typically, a stock 4x4 is 1 wheel in the back & 1 wheel in the front that's powered (open diffs). If u have a 4x4 with a posi/limited slip rear diff, then u have a 3x4 for the most part. The best setup is lockin diffs front & rear so u have TRUE 4 wheel drive. Selectable Electronic or Air lockers let's u have ur cake & eat it 2 giving u 100% street ability & 100% off-road ability with a flick of a switch.
my 92' hijet was the longest lasting truck on my farm. tough wood hauler, it got places SXS's wouldn't dare and it's only downfall was the snow and a 47 degree dip into the creek. 14 years of abuse and it took it like a champ until it's sad end
I live in India and here we have modified versions of these trucks available, manufactured by local firms - Tata ace, AL Dost, Mahindra Pickup...these are not even 4 x4 (except mahindra pickup).. All three are quite popular.. We cannot image our streets without them. They are literally a lifeline in intracity transportation
I'm from SEA and you can see hijets anywhere. They can carry so much cargo compare to their size, easy to navigate in tight streets, easy to park, easy to maintain.
These are great trucks. I’ve driven one such small truck. They are great for carrying big loads while occupying less space than the normal trucks. Unfortunately American people can’t get them, because of their corrupted system.

Had a little Honda carry in the 1990's. Only 2wd but that little unit could take you lots of places. And if you got bogged or stuck wasn't really hard to get out.
