Meanie did a fabulous job, I thought to myself ...There is no way this version is going to sound nearly as good as the older one with Paula Cole .... I was impressed. It looks like it was a great performance, very touching.
music isn't always about the best singer ok? music is about emotions and to see peter performing this special song with his daughter brings this song to the next level. from an A+ to a letter who stands in front of the alphabet. other women singing this song may be technically better but what the hell this exact song with this two perfomers is heaven. it is heaven. I rarely felt such an emotion listening to this version
Melanie wouldn't talk to her father for years. How wonderful and poignant to see a father and daughter reconciled, and singing together, just as it should be. Life's too short and we should cherish every minute with our loved ones.
Ver a Melanie emocionada cuando termina el tema me conmueve el alma. Se nota que ama mucho a su padre, bueno, él debe ser un hombre maravilloso. THANKS!!!
I love both, Paula Cole singing that song with Peter, and also Melanie. Both women have a brilliant voice and emotional way of singing :-) My favourite song from Peter Gabriel, an awesome song from an awesome musician, singer andf songwriter!
This song was written for Melanie. They had a difficult time when she was younger and he was out touring all the time. I think I heard him say this on his documentary Growing Up.
pretty cool, He rote this song to Melanie, while he and Melanie's mother were going through their divorce, and years later she's performing it with him
On a musical level I probably prefer Paula's version, but there is something wonderfully poignant about Melanie performing this with her father, given that their strained relationship was the inspiration for this beautiful song.
I know that Peter wrote that song for his daughter but I'm not sure if it was Melanie or Anna. Either way, that was quite moving hearing the two of them sing it.
este es el grito desesperado de miles de pobres en Colombia que mantienen a sus hijos en las calles, desplazados de sus hogares, en las ciudades viendo la espalda de los señoritos que no hacen nada por solucionarlo...
I much prefer Melanie to Paula Cole in this song. Paula Cole's voice is too strident in this song. She is a wonderful singer with a wonderful voice, but I prefer her singing alone. She doesn't blend with other voices very well. Peter and Melanie's voices were *made* to fit together. Brilliant.
I saw his Secret World tour and no offense to his daughter but Paula Cole did a lot better on this. I feel the same way about the drummer as well. He just doesn't have what Manu had. Great video though.
"this all is so unreal" there e.g. Melanie doesn't get the tone at all; I think she was there because PG wanted to do a tour but still be near his family and this way, it was best for him, but in terms of music he'd rather phoned Paula Cole in his red cell phone from the Secret World tour. Also a pity Manu Katché wasn't available, Gey Lynch just beats the crap out of his drumset and rather destroys this beautiful song

I had no idea that this song was about them. Wow! It makes it even more touching.
wow ,what beautiful lyrics, and he sung it with his daughter, amazing.

"I did not come to steal"....
beautiful and deep...
Very touching song, with a beautiful intro that gives me chills everytime. It's just something about his voice.

How can you dislike this? Really...that is impossible...do you have no soul?

@Fanglespangle Song was written about Anna Gabriel. :)

Did I spy little tears in Melanie's eyes?

drums are ................. good but manu katché is excellentttttttttttttttttttttttt`
the best
Paula Cole did a good job on this song, but I have to say I much prefer Melanie.
you know, every male member of the band in this video is bald ... all they need to do is bring back sinead o connor and it'd be complete.

Con tutto il rispetto per Melanie.......ma Paula Cole era di un livello 100 volte superiore.
