There are two types of tone-hounds: those that preference upper mids & highs and those that preference lower mids & lows. I preference the later because I'm looking for a thick/dense tone and therefore to me...the Driftwood is my choice. Your comparison are SO informative. Thanks.
I currently have both….. but retiring the nightmare and keeping the Stealth. Both monsters, but about a $2000 difference. There’s not $2000 worth of sound difference to me
So what you mean is... use them both and blend them in a mix. From your profiles we can use the grit from the driftwood and keep the upper mids and highs from the stealth. Match made in heaven.
@@chrisjones8743 I get it ...even Jarrod' got rid of it ..was too "mushy".... The EVH stealth beat it out for sure . Cheers , glad you found the amp you needed
I had a feeling it would go the way it sounded killer comparison im sold on the stealth now the nightmare is insane but that evh red channel is on a different planet thanks for this video 🤘👌🤘
Jarrod, this is probably the best comparison video...in the world! 🌎 All the riffing, the format, comparing channels at their best individual sounds, the descriptions of what your hearing...awesome man! Easily my favorite youtube amp video to date, seriously awesome job, man! Any chance you could compare the herbert and driftwood? I'd love to hear those two German titans go against each other like this...or even throw the savage as well and make it a three way! I keep telling people the 50 watt people they don't know the power of the red channel(100s), I'm glad I'm not alone. Again, thanks for the awesome content!
The Stealth seems a little darker, where the Nightmare has more cut in the mids. Between the two, I liked the bottom of the Nightmare more and with the OD boost on. Stealth sounds great, but I think would get lost in the mix in a fully band setting, where that cut of the Nightmare would stand out the way it should. Both sound very good, but I would prefer the Nightmare. My $0.02.
perfect ...able to hear quickly between the two amps.. the driftwood just has that special low mids that has angry spitting bees in it.. so great... but the EVH shows it can be put next to any price amp and still have its chest showing.... thanks man
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I agree, the Stealth is just a straight up BEAST! No matter what amp you put it up against, it has a great showing.
Thanks for the great video. Is it me or does the Driftwood sounds more like original 5150, those grinding sounds, very organic and evil sounding, and Stealth is a bit "modernized", more scooped and more djent-y, but less that OG 5150 sound, more an evolved modern metal sound? Thanks!
Thank you! Yeah, the Stealth seems like the "People's Champion " here. What a great amp!! I still love the Driftwood as well. I'm so grateful that I get to have them both.
Dude, I wish you still had the nightmare cuz I’d love to hear it through DV77s or ideally a 412 with DV77s and K-100s wired in an X-pattern. The Purple Nightmare gets flubby on the low end and fizzy on the high end, and the frequency response of the DV77s acts as a bandpass filter and they seem to have a little more dynamic range in the mid range frequencies in contrast to the relatively flat frequency response of the V30s which is why they’re so F’n awesome because that flatness allows you to really sculpt your tone with your panel EQ on “almost” any amp. Except the rare few like the Herbert, Uber, Nightmare, et al.
seems like you have a bit too much gain but both sounded cool. I would say the EVH is my preference because it sounded almost the same as the driftwood but a lot more affordable. The look of the driftwood is awesome though.
Thats a cool demo. Im gonna get a revv generator next year after all. But for now i can't decide between evh stealth or peavey invective. They are both the modern 5150.
They both sound killer!! I have a Super Kraken and someone offered me a trade for a Mesa Mark IV rev A short model. And was curious if you’ve ever A B’d them. If so which did you like better?
Thanks for commenting. I haven't shot the Kraken and MK IV out. If the MK IV is anything like the MK V, I would hang on to the Kraken. That MK V was very disappointing
A mí me salió Rodrygo,James y Varane! Escogí a Varane porque tenía a van djik de oro desde inicio del juego necesitaba un buen defensa y no tenia dinero espero no haberme equivocado
DRIFTWOOD = 2 BRICKS RUBBING TOGETHER KINDA THING AND A HEAVY BRICK BEING DRAGGED ACROSS CONCRETE. I couldn't have dreamed up a more PERFECT DECRIPTION. 😂
Believe it or not, I play the Spark the most. I can run my backing tracks through it via Bluetooth and practice as often end as conveniently as I want. Regarding the real horsepower on my shelves....JP-2C, STEALTH, REVV & MEZZABARBA are played equally

I would get EVH Stealth plus Driftwood preamp pedal for best of both worlds.
Jarrod’s playing is like the score music of the rising of a future zombie apocalypse!
Haha thank you!
Yeah, I can hear that and chops would be great if he aligned with some video game makers and used clips in the games, like DOOM or whatnot!
Really love your comparisson videos. Compare the amps in the room is a genial idea
I currently have both….. but retiring the nightmare and keeping the Stealth. Both monsters, but about a $2000 difference. There’s not $2000 worth of sound difference to me
The difference is not always related to the tone of the amp but it also has a lot to do with reliability, built quality and high grade components

Oh man!! That would be the ultimate blend of amps!!
Both sound great. I like that grind on the driftwood a little better. Sounds like a chainsaw with a pickup mounted to it. Just Awesome.
Just bought the Purple on Reverb. I’ve never spent so much on an amp and I’m stoked!
How are you liking it?
@@maximumguitarage returned it and bought the EVH . Ha

21:21 note to self: direct comparison of the Stealth vs. Driftwood.
The EVH Stealth is quite simply the god of amps especially relative to cost. I also agree the blue channel on the Stealth is THE ONE!
To me the EVH is far away my favorite but both are killer. :)
I had a feeling it would go the way it sounded killer comparison im sold on the stealth now the nightmare is insane but that evh red channel is on a different planet thanks for this video 🤘👌🤘
The Driftwood is nice & "Chewy" & The EVH is nice & "Punchy"...!!!
I hear you but the opposite is what I hear, Driftwood chunky and chesty and the evh more 3D and more to chew on🤷♀️
So much gain holy shit. I love it

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words. I will definitely put the Driftwood up against the Herbert MKIII and the Savage mk2. Stay tuned

It’s more like a Recto imo.
The EVH is a like chop to the throat followed by a kick to the groin.
That red channel is SOOOOOOOO Good!
I like the EVH better. And when you consider the price difference.... EVH is the clear winner for me.
( Great job on the comparison demo! )

@@TONEWARSgearshow You have my top 3 favorite amps: The JP-2c, the ENGL Fireball 100, and the EVH Stealth.

Thanks for commenting. I agree, maybe the DV 77 speakers would be perfect for that amplifier
EVH used an EP3, and the preamp in those things are a hefty tone thickener!
Dude! You have to try the Highwind Amplification Dire Wolf OD/Boost and also the J Rocket Rockaway OD!

The Stealth is nastier than the Invective. I'd suggest the Stealth
the Driftwood clawing throaty thing I liked better - EVH is bad ass though -
It's really hard to choose between them. They both are amazing
Driftwood Purple sounds like a Recto, lol. That's a compliment, by the way.
Stealth all day! :)

@@TONEWARSgearshow Amazing. Yes, that JP2C is looking to be very tempting.
$3600 vs $1550. I'll take the Stealth.
For me, the EVH. Way more cutting.
EVH sounds more powerful and defined to me. Driftwood sounds a bit muffled at times. EVH seems to have more authority.
Again I think you sometimes use too much gain imo. You know sometimes less gain makes it heavier.
The driftwood sounds like my 2001 Crate
The EVH sounds like my 1998 Behringer
