For the ones that think it’s okey cause he laughed at the jokes, that doesn’t mean that affected him, sometimes they laugh because they don’t want to show that it affected him or they don’t know how to react.
Exactly if he doesn’t laugh he might get introuble with the company because the fans will be outraged. I think it’s not good for the group if it looks like they don’t get along so he might feel he can’t express in public how it affects him

This is true. Especially when you're in a group of friends, even when you guys are already close, it's hard to call out a joke that doesn't sit right with you in fear of "overreacting" or putting down the mood. I imagine that fear is twice when you're an idol and millions are watching your every move.
However, I also want to add that when Sunoo said that Sunghoon and Ni-ki sometimes joke too much, he also mentioned that he's happy that Sunghoon apologizes and agrees that Sunghoon takes care of him (NI-KI wasn't there but we can see both of them apologizing in other vids when Sunoo is visibly upset). It was the same when they were talking about how Sunoo and Ni-ki fought and they stayed up late just talking and apologizing. So I guess that at least gives us a hint that he probably does make it known when the jokes aren't tolerable anymore, and the others acknowledge their mistake. Of course, we don't really know which jokes these are so us outsiders can't determine what his boundaries are either. Still, it is no longer about just them but the mental health of their viewers too. It's inevitable for them to have fans who are sensitive about the topic and since they have a big platform, these jokes can easily hurt those who are struggling with weight, even if Sunoo may be fine with most of them.

1) They are doing this again and again.
2) The main issue is not conveyed to them, their company isn't letting them know about the issue neither advising them properly.
3) Sunoo was never 'fat', infact he is 'fit'/ 'healthy'.
I totally agree with this. Belift never addressed any issue. Even if a lot of engenes has been so vocal about this, it keeps on repeating. As an engene, I believe the boys really care about each other and I don't think they would purposely hurt sunoo or their fans. The boys are clearly ignorant of this. If their company educated them the first time this happened, this issue wouldn't be this big and prolonged.

Yeah I’m trying to see the “fat”? He has a squishy face but his body isn’t big at all. It reminds me of when people used to call Jimin fat when he had a very fit body, just a young and squishy face. They should just stop. It’s constantly happening and it’s annoying because it’s not funny.
@@kiki13451 Jimin was not fit at that time, he was skinny and starving. The muscles showed only because he worked out too much and lost way too much fat than he should have. He is great now so that's good!!

As a person who has dealt with body shaming comments and bullying about my weight, this situation is pretty similar to the way i experienced it. People would constantly compare me to other things. Notice some weight fluctuations and basically scold me for eating a little too much. Idk Sunoo personally, but i used to act basically the same way when people told me stuff like that and I laughed to cope with the words being thrown at me. I just hope he’s doing good and if it’s really bothering him I hope he speaks up about it because he’s a beautiful young man in every way shape or form and he doesn’t deserve to be treated in such a way. -Love from an Enhypen Fanboy ❤️

,and also can reading the situation,he know how kpop work too,but he is the second maknae too,so sometimes its difficult to talk,and in enhypen a lot members with anti romantic ,so they love languange for someone they comfrotable is teasing them,because im that type too,but we see the situation before doing that,and enhypen meet each other and being close in a survival show,most of them have short training too,and they being so busy when debut,so they didn't have time for knowing each other well,but since i following them since iland i can see their bond getting better

Many people have said Sunoo doesn't look uncomfortable and he even laughs along with them. However, what you said may be true to Sunoo, and is definitely true to me as well. I always played along with weight/body criticizing (directed towards me). I didn't think those comments were ever serious, nor did I take them seriously. However, the more negativity I was surrounded by, the more harsh the comments became, I was unconsciously checking my weight every now and then, and I suddenly began thinking negative about myself. You can play along with the weight comments and don't think you will be affected, but you will be eventually. I hope people who are faced with such comments seek help or love.

How well do you think their bond has formed? They are always busy, even after the survival show. We are just fans; we cannot judge their relationship. Bodyshaming comments should never be said no matter the relationship; you do not know whether Sunoo is comfortable with the teasing.

I also want to mention that enhypen has a fandom largely populated with young, impressionable international and domestic fans, especially girls. And because eating disorders and body image issues are especially present in that age group and gender, it is safe to say that Enhypen has millions of fans with body dysmorphia and EDs/overweight fans, and their comments can easily trigger comparing, intrusive thoughts, traumatic memories, relapse, etc. in people with those body image issues. Enhypen also has repeatedly promoted unrealistic beauty standards and toxic diet culture in front of those fans. For example, Ni-ki telling Sunoo that if he continues eating so much dessert, he’ll have to lose weight. I’m worried for fans who will watch and apply the said toxic and unhealthy comments to themselves as well. Furthermore, several overweight Engenes have stated that they no longer feel safe or comfortable with enhypen (“if they’re like this to sunoo, how would they treat me?”). I very much understand that enhypen themselves are a product and victim of unrealistic beauty standards and the normalization of unhealthy body modification, but I’d rather they get educated and stop spreading them.

There's a an interview on teen Vogue were Sunoo was asked to hop on one foot. When Sunoo was hoping Niki commented that there is an earthquake and Jungwon pretended like he was protecting the things on the table from falling.
What I am saying is that sometimes they take it too far and they should be mindful of their international fans. Unless they don't care about their fans as much as they claim they do.
The fact that a leader does this together with a maknae makes it disgusting because a leader should unite the group, not divide it. Jungwon is young, but very inexperienced, and this has been shown more than once. I hope he improves and also Ni-ki. He is still growing up and he may learn it from his hyung..

Same, it may be because heeseung has the most experience in trainee life and has probably seen others extremely hurt themselves to fit that standard unlike the other members with only a few months of training plus are also teenagers. I have stanned, unstannned, and tried to stan enhypen several times it has always been hard for me to connect to enhypen as a group. However personally sunoo has always been really special to me ever since I watched iland I connect with him more so than other members of the group. It hurts me that these 'situations' keep happening to him he really doesn't deserve any of it and I hope this bullying doesn't affect him mentally. I hope fans will continue to speak out on this unfair treatment that keeps recurring towards Sunoo.

Exactly my situation, I want to be there on the front row cheering for them soooo much but it sometimes makes me sick to my stomach when I watch some of their videos and how they interact cause they trigger some trauma and anxiety I carry due to my own experiences with body shaming. And on top of that having to act unbothered by it and just smile at the jokes.

Same here... sunoo is the reason i pay attention to enhypen and would love to be able to like them as a whole but it just hit and miss everytime.

this situation is also about the fans even if sunno is OK with these comments being made there is no place for the comments to be said online, especially when they're live with 100k plus ppl watching them. If enhypen were really smart, they would know that they have a demographic of young impressionable teenagers who sadly look up to these boys and to hear them say such disgusting things to a person who isn't deemed as 'fat' whatsoever is definitely going to make them feel a specific type of way. Imagine the fans who are actually bigger than sunno and how they have to deal with such comments being made on a daily bases from the community around and for them to hear such things coming out of enhypen's mouths, it's 100% going to make them feel betrayed and disgusted because if they can confidently say such things about sunoo they are obviously going to think about what enhypen would actually say if they met a bigger person .
I agree. I think that I'm bigger than him, and I've struggled with body image and even EDs, and of currently, trying to workout a lot to lose some weight. So if enhypen really think that Sunoo is fat, what would they think if they were to ever see me?
Normal ppl do not interact with their friends the same way they do with a stranger though. If my friend asked me if he was fat I’m a make a joke about it and tell home the truth whereas with a stranger I probably wouldn’t be as direct or say anything at all tbh

I definitely think that they should be accountable of the things they say , but at a certain point , everything they say will offend one person or the other . They can't just behave completely different on and off camera . But jokes about someone's weight shouldn't be made , especially as Sunoo himself is a kpop personality . It was really nice to see Heeseung reassuring Sunoo and telling him that fans would rather see him happy and healthy because it’s true, and even if the others are joking, having one person there to say things like that can make all the difference (coming from personal experience)

There is a mistranslation where Ni-ki says "He eats a lot" , He actually said " He eats well" and the phrase has positive meaning(saying as a person who knows korean). But yeah, in other cases their comments were inappropriate

This is exactly it. Groups mess around with each other, but for the same joke to be used on ONE member by the rest of the group over and over again is just not right. Especially for something as sensitive as body image.
EXACTLY, if they were laughing together, why is Sunoo always the butt of the joke? He doesn't say anything, he never responds and he never makes the same jokes to them, he doesn't even joke like that with them. It's always to him. They're aren't laughing with him, they're laughing AT him.

This actually reminds me a lot of the haechan jisung situation right now. I don’t know a lot about what jisung actually said but he’s commented on haechans skin tone and weight before so it just annoys me that two of the groups I stan are in similar situations with this

Yes most recently Jisung and Chenle were eating food, and I think one of them commented that eating that food makes you paler...? and Jisung said something like, "Do you think Haechan will become pale if he eats this?" and Chenle answered "no".

Of it matter if it’s a one off question and not all the time. Words have power. Whether someone says it once, or all the time doesn’t matter because it will stick with you and become your worst insecurity. All because of a “comment” made one time.
TLDR; I don’t see a difference. Words have power & can affect people permanently, and that’s never okay to say anything like that to anyone.
I’m sixteen and I would never say ANY the things niki says. I’m sad bc I used to love enhypen but I’m so over this. Not only is it horrible how they treat sunoo, but if they’re that okay with harassing one of their own members, I question how they treat others as well. I’ll stay in safer fandoms for now, lol
Fr. 15 here, but when it comes to other people’s appearance I always make sure to think twice before saying it. Some of my closest friends do not do this and it’s very hurtful so I know how it feels like. He has no excuse. Age and so on.

Everyone makes mistakes. I used to comment and hurt ppl on the internet without realising what I've done or how hurtful it was to others when I was 13-15. Back then I just say whatever i want to say without thinking twice. I mean not everyone could be mature and do the same things even if you're the same age. It's not a big deal if he's willing to change tho. age is not an excuse, but age should be considered too, especially since not every 16y old acts like you. Glad that you're the one who gets mature, but for me when I was 16 I'm worse
Makes me think about that situation with superm a while back between Lucas and Baekhyun, and people responded to backlash by saying that it’s a normal thing to comment on others’ weight and appearance. People need to understand that just because something is normalized in a culture/society, it doesn’t mean that it’s okay, especially if someone has a history with ed-like behavior like Baek

I remember that. To be honest, as an EXO-L, I was very upset for Baekhyun as he was obviously displeased with the comment. It took me a while to get over. They also called him ugly sometimes. Baekhyun is very handsome, the beauty standard is just ridiculously high.

Oh please, Niki is OLD enough to know bodyshaming is bad. With the internet and all, he has an access to learn about stuff like this especially that most young people rn are woke (being woke is a good thing, btw). I think it's because the environment around him also allows this to happen. Like what we heard in the vlive, even the staff participate in this bullying. It is really a shame that on-cam and off-cam sunoo has to experience this. Hope all of them grow up.

I'm going to give the two cents no-one-asked for because i believe that there's a bigger problem that kpop stans fail to understand or see. I do believe that people/fans are entitled to their own feelings and if they decide to unstan because they can no longer support this behavior it's within their right. However i also believe that people, especially kpop stans, don't understand that this is not just an enhypen situation but more so an industry and societal problem of a lot of asian countries where issues like fatphobia and colorism (the most recent example is jisung remarks on haechan) are so normalized and consequently interiorized that they don't see it as a problem (the way the complaints come from the intls fanbase while the korean ones is mostly silent says a lot). This is not me trying to justify their action but i feel like these kinds of behavior need to be put into context and fans need to realize that unfortunately these issues are rooten far deeper and it's overall bigger than enhypen's boys situation. I don't want to discourage the calling out of this behavior because it's important to point it out and push for a change however i also feel like that such a change can't come from the international kpop fanbase. Now onto enhypen's situation, i'm going to sound very harsh: I feel like if they see the backlash they might become more careful of what they'll say but the way of thinking, i'm afraid will be the same. So call them out but at the end don't expect much change/results out of it. It's sad to say but it's the reality of things.

engenes are talking about it publicly because this issue is serious not only inside the fandom but the entire kpop community and the fanbase already come up with something on how to talk to them and educate them about this situation. they'll planning to talk to the leader on their fan sign events. people need to know that majority of the engenes aren't enabler, they want them to grow and learn. educating them is also a form of protecting them from ignorance. weight jokes needs to stop. i just hope that the antis will stop sending ☠️ threats to the members and use this issue as a free pass to hate them. their mistakes doesn't define them, they aren't a bad person.

I personally don’t think they’re purposely trying to hurt Sunoo. Since Sunoo keeps playing along and laughing with them they probably assume he’s okay with it so they keep it on. But if Sunoo is actually hurt by them, I hope he’ll be able to talk to them about it because they’re basically a family. I feel like this type of thing is common in friend groups, where they all tease one friend about something, but they’re actually hurting their feelings. But that doesn’t always mean they’re being bullies. But it can be hard to stand up for yourself, even if it’s amongst your best friends.
Yea, in an interview he stated that Sunghoon and Niki do tease him a lot and sometimes it goes to far but he’s happy that they apologize. He said this referring to Sunghoon specifically cuz Niki wasn’t there in the interview but yea this gave me hope that they probably do have their own convos when they go home together but then again they gotta understand the platform they have when just joking around.
When someone really suffers from something, they usually don't comment on how those comments affect them, they usually suffer in silence and laugh at others. If Sunoo is ok, I'm glad for that, but also hope they realize that this kind of comments are not correct even if it's joking.

I’m not an enhypen stan so I can’t really talk about jokes in the past BUT it’s important to note that this was a conversation in another language and another country. So some things sound worse when they are translated, and some things are not seen negatively in other cultures like they are in ours. I don’t think body shaming is ok, but it doesn’t seem like Sunoo, the “victim” cares nearly as much as his stans. I don’t even consider this body shaming because it doesn’t seem like it was said in a shameful way. I have friends and family who call me too skinny. They all know that I have limits and not to cross them, so it’s pretty likely that they knew they weren’t hurting Sunoo, or that it at least wasn’t their intention
Well, I want to clarify that mayority of engenes are not defending this behaviour and we've already decided to reach the leader through a fancall to explain it (this action will be conducted by our fanbases). We're doing that cuz yes, they ARE ignorant and have normalized this type of comments as jokes. Why do y'all think this member said it in a vlive in front of many ppl "if it were a bad thing" for them? cuz clearly they are not realizing it is; as many of u know this type of jokes are normalized in korea (even commenting on someone's weight is seen as a way to care for the person there) n probably in one group u stan have said smth similar. On other hand, looking thin or being perfect on korea is like a mandatory thing that is internalized by every korean (ppl who has lived here for long time) n this includes sunoo and enhypen members ofc : they shouldn't have double chin, they should always stay on the "perfect" weight, no belly fat, having lean bodies, etc (this is what korean society expects from men). There are even studies that examined weight concerns and body dissatisfaction among kindergarteners (fucking fetus). This problem isn't coming from enhypen itself but from korean society (social media, parents, friends, schools).

Few days ago the same situation was happening with haechan.. These situations are so messed up even tho they're friends and I believe they can solve it together but as I can see its only getting worse... Especially that the 2 members (hyuck and deonu) don't seem so comfortable with the jokes.. Even if it was a joke when a joke get repeated too much it becomes kind of serious and annoying..sometimes you make random comments about your friends and you forget that they may go home and overthink about it when they're alone... You can really make someone insecure or hurt their self esteem unintentionally sometimes... Also I don't like when kpop fans handle such situations cos they can't show their disagreement except with hate and d34th threats.. It'd also be kinda uncomfortable for fans who weigh more than sunoo to watch or hear this... Sunoo is actually just chubby on face but not that fat.. I hate to hear this he's perfect :(((

It isn’t right. But body-shaming is so common in most kpop groups, particularly boy groups. We all see the constant fake cake drops in comeback and birthday vlogs. But like you said, it’s not an ENHYPHEN problem, it’s a societal and industry related problem that requires an overhaul of an entire society and industry, so it’s unlikely to change soon. And the only way it can change is if the people shamed actually go against it; and they never do, they always agree that they need to lose weight, that’s how ingrained the standards are.

I’m trying not to compare them to other boy groups in K-pop. But as I see interactions between SVT, Ateez, Stray Kids, P1Harmony, NCT, OnlyOneOf, TXT, SF9, SHINee, Monsta X, and so many more, I feel uncomfortable when watching them say stuff like this. Even in that lie detector test they did in En-O’Clock, they basically asked Sunoo “if he is an attention seeker” and if he is “acting”. Granted, things like SVT making fun of S.Coups saying he looks like a camel eating but then they make sure they are like “just joking S.Coups we love you.” Those vibes feel so loving and genuine, yes SVT has been together for a while but the love and genuine feelings they show with each other is not like this. I feel uncomfortable every time they bring up Sunoos weight or something else. Even in newer groups like P1Harmony, they make fun of each other A LOT but you can tell they make sure each other are okay with it. Like I understand they can pull a Monsta X (example the whole situation with I.M.) and grow together and genuinely know what’s right to say and what’s not but still. Idk, it’s just weird, the vibes are off to me. BUT THATS JUST ME YALL, DON’T ATTACK ME IT’S JUST MY OPINION.

i just wanna say that i agree with each of y'all's comments on this situation. i recently got into kpop especially Enhypen bc of their music but one sad thing that i learned was that this isn't the first time they've been trying to get canceled as individuals which sucks. as a person who's been body shamed my entire life i understand where this situation is coming from. i have learned throughout the years just to moved on with life but not once did i ever receive an apology but this isn't the point. my point is that these boys should realize wtf they're saying to their own band member bc even though he may laugh about it on camera, no one will ever know what goes on his mind when they tell him things as such ESPECIALLY off cameras. these boys should know from right and wrong but they need to get their stuff together bc if they don't, sorry to say but they're gonna be loosing a lot of fans.

I only follow Enhypen's music, not much of the other stuff, but I watched the video because you always cover meaningful Kpop topics. I agree with your opinion about the issue. Given the role of an idol and Enhypen's popularity especially, they should care about the impact of their behavior. They are like a model to their fans in terms of their behaviors, values, etc. Maybe in the context of Korean culture, making jokes about body or weight is common, but it does not mean no harm. I hope they can sort it out among themselves and show improvement in the future. However, given the current situation, I do not see the need to make a public apology since we do not know how Sunwoo actually feels about the jokes. Personally, I always value actual improvement more than a verbal apology.

Yes it does mean harm to body shame but if you look at it from Korean culture there is no body-shaming…yes Sunoo is our sunshine and it hurts to see him sad but that doesn’t mean he can’t stand up for himself without fans babying him all the time..he has addressed situations where he felt uncomfortable and the members always apologise or they say it in a joking way. I'm glad you mentioned that personal improvement can be better than a public apology. Anyone can apologize but not anyone can learn from their mistakes and change quickly (it takes longer for some people) so the only way we can really know if anything has changed is if the members change their behavior.

I'm not going to lie I've been biased since I washed I-land. I couldn't stand any of them except for Sunoo. To me he was the only genuine person. THe rest of them would do or say whatever they had to do to get into the group even if it man stomping on other people. I am not surprised they are treating Sunoo like crap.
They thought they were better than him on the show when all the fans loved him the most and supported him the most and that behavior hasn't stopped.
I swear they still get shocked every time Sunoo gets the loudest cheers in their concert venues. There’s still that Iland mentality. They don’t regard him as much and when they get a dose of reality that he’s actually pretty loved by the world, they get stunned.
This is the reason I've been distancing myself from them a little bit. I love the boys since I-land but it makes me so sad that this keep happening. I feel like some of the enhypen members are so sucked into Korean beauty standards that they forget there are different body types and everyone physique is unique. Like different people are different weights and they have to be a certain weight to be healthy and if may not be the same as your weight. Same thing with eating and diets.

I believe that we, as outsiders cannot say what the true intention behind their words are or how Sunoo feels about it, but we can let them know that their words make us as fans feel uncomfortable and that we’d like them to be more mindful in the future. Before I say my opinion about this issue please just respect my opinion and I'll respect yours.
In my opinion, I literally agreed with that k engene's statement. First of all we are not Sunoo so we don't completely know if it really affects him or not (about the joke). I'm completely disappointed that some of the engene's even ask that they (the members who were accused for fat shaming him) should get 'educated', because it's literally invading their privacy. This issue is between Sunoo and the members, so they are the one's who should solve this, not the company neither us. We should know our limits as a fans to not interfere in their personal lives (I completely respect you opinion). I'm not siding anyone in this issue. The k engene's statement clearly said that they are old enough to understand everything. 5 members of enhypen are already an adult and the others are not child either. Sunoo would speak up about it with the members if he really is uncomfortable with it (about the joke), I'm sure they know their limits as they are matured enough.
They have definitely improved now and stopped making these jokes but sunoo has definitely lost his confidence and as an engene it makes me sad

I just feel like as fans, we should stop making assumptions(not talking abt the creator of this video, just in general) Ive seen many eneges create assumptions based on the short clips we need on twt or tiktok. These assumptions does not only confuse others, but they can actually hurt the other members too. I feel like when ppl are defending a member, they always bring down another, which doesn’t makes sense. Personally, I think we should let the members sort this out on their own cause us fans are in no position to make a conclusion cause we are just fans. We have no idea what goes on after the live/camera. We do not know what each member is thinking or what they mean when they say a joke. Also some international fans don’t understand the cultural differences between their country and South Korea. But like I said before, we should let the members sort this out on their own.

Also Sunoo might not even notice the fact that these affect him, he may brush it off as a joke but sometimes it subconsciously hurts and you don’t even know it and you start doing things to try and change those comments made about you, when my friends called me “flat”, I just brushed it off and I didn’t THINK it offended me, but looking back I realise how much that hurt my mental state and confidence. What if the staff is telling them to make comments like this so Enhypen can get attention. This wouldn't be the first time kpop companies have made controversies for popularity. All this has led to more people who weren't originally fans pay attention to Enhypen.

enhypen are one of my ults so this saddens me a lot and i hope they really are just joking around because i love sunoo sm and he deserves the world. I do agree with you though sometimes people just laugh or smile to cope with the situation since they don't know what to do and feel uncomfortable . My cousin has been body shamed by her uncle and aunt and older cousins several times calling her a '' cow '' and other words , she would tell me she is very depressed about it and the only thing she could do is smile . again, i hope sunoo is alright !!
I'm assuming people who defend these kind of actions actually have this type of humor and makes fun of their "friends" just to be called "FUNNY"
i feel like heeseung is the only member that hasnt said anything mean to sunoo. the video that makes me the most sad for sunoo is when all the members are eating ice cream and sunoo is just pretending to eat and then eventually sets it down on the floor untouched. ironically in that video, niki keeps trying to get sunoo to eat the ice cream and i kept thinking "niki, you are the one that makes the most comments about his weight... no wonder he doesnt want to eat the ice cream!" i feel so bad for sunoo. i would be internalizing the comments if i were him. im surprised that hybe hasnt released any statement with all this attention regarding this... they are usually all about being inclusive and kind to others....
Totally agree with everything you said here .. like its sad to see that people think they're joking and he's laughing which means he's enjoying it .. no like- wth .. they're grown people .. and they should'nt act like young kids and be mature enough to understand not to make jokes on someone's weight . poor Sunoo .. i hope they realize their mistake soon tho cuz l like their music and the concept that they have so .. just gotta change the attitude .. and someone needs to put some sense into them..
I agree with a lot of comments on here too. Sunoo and Heeseung are the main reasons why I started to stan Enhypen but this fat shaming problem is really getting out of hand and the fact that it is the members that are doing it, makes this situation even harder to continue supporting Enhypen. I think HYBE needs to know how a lot of us Engenes feel about this and how wrong it is for Sunoo to be treated this way. What's even more sad is that Sunoo actually thinks he's fat when clearly he isn't at all and I'm sure most Engenes think the same.

sunoo confirmed that they always apologize when the jokes aren't funny also we all know Sunoo isn't a child and he always standsout for himself although a korean en said it was mistranslated anyway but let me say something that in korea for them its quite okay to make comments about weight, tho i dont think ni-ki meant to be mean or to hurt sunoo ofc sunoo might have got annoyed but im sure he told them after , saying that doesn't mean that its okay to bodyshame but they're like a family and im sure that wasn't their intention i hope people understand that not everything needs to happen on camera and that they probably know him better than us and they always force him to eat whenever hes on a diet and enhypen said before that they are jealous because of hus body since he doesn't exercise and they praise his body alot but people only notice when they do the opposite ig ,i was relieved that it was mistranslated but if it wasn't i hope they don't do it again:)

pls dont come for me this is just my opinion:so i think this is a joke between them and none of them really take it seriously also i think when a person laughs it of that naturally then it probably isnt a big deal for the person if he would take a little "break" to think of it and then laugh then i get it he would seem hurt ( i love sunoo with all my heart and im not trying to defend the others with this again its just my opinion) and also i do the same thing with my friend adn we all know that these are just jokes and the are probably even closer then me and my friends they know each other and each others humor even more
I feel like the thing that makes this a much more problematic topic, are fans.
Most fans I’ve seen online, excuse these comments over the fact that “Korea is different from X Country, that’s normal 😤🙄” completely glossing over the fact that this attitude about another person’s body is wrong whether it is normalized or not in one culture. Besides Enhypen has both domestic and International fans, they should be aware that certain comments, despite being normalized in Korea, are not socially acceptable on many other places.
Also, going back to my ‘fans excusing them because they are Korean’ point, ALL other celebrities from different countries take their time to learn about this kind of sensitive topics even if their birthplace has different views about it. They are also held accountable for mistakes they might make by making a simple apology, so why are korean celebrities any different? Why do fans give them special treatment if they make hurtful comments about a coworkers’ body?
honestly the thing that makes me "scratch my head" the most about this situation is that if they can say stuff like that about someone who looks like HIM, what the fuck can they say about someone who looks like or about literally any other person who doesn't have the insanely perfect and thin frame they apparently have in mind? it makes me panic...
My biggest pet peeve with Kpop fans involves fatphobia. Everytime an idol is call fat fans immediately go “omg but he’s not even fat” as if it would be ok to say that to the idol if they were above a certain weight. I’ve even seen people say things like “this is so much worse because they aren’t actually big” and its like no… it’s not worse just because they’re “skinny” when fatphobia effects bigger people the most
I think fans consider it worse because when an idol who's already quite thin is getting fat-shamed their only option is get skinnier, as in dangerously underweight. Think about how many idols are recovering from eating disorders

It allows for ppl to be outraged when ppl say those things to skinny ppl but when they’re said to bigger ppl it’s seen as deserved because they’re actually big. Because what’s the inverse of “it’s worse to be fatphobic to skinny ppl”? It’s “it’s not that bad to be fatphobic to bigger ppl”
