I have a 1985 Diesel Safari myself. You can make them reliable. Because they are so simple, and there is less than can go wrong with them compared to a modern vehicle. All the issues you have had so far are solvable and not to recur. I had the fuel tank taken off for a full clean, replaced the fuel line, made sure the diesel filter is good quality and seals properly, and service the injector pump. They last very long without asking much. Mine was fuel starving and the diesel injector pump was serviced when the car turned 35. It is now 39. So, you could say it needs a service every 35 years or so. The U-bolt is just fatigue, again due to age. It is not that expensive to have them replaced. Long term running cost would be a fraction of a new Cruiser or Land Rover.
Very well done Garr for carrying on by putting out videos using your old Nissan Patrol. It is a very good vehicle. I really hope you somehow manage to upgrade to a more reliable vehicle...a newer Nissan Patrol or even an old 75 series Landcruiser, A mere 7500 USD dollar leap.I hope your channel grows!
Absolutely true, the dry season is accessible by a 4x2 vehicle, I used my Chevrolet Captiva to Khwai and had an amazing time...Khwai never disappoints. A beautiful video.
Thanks nice video Yes we normally find the green shop open we were also there in August and we bought a 750ml bottle of cherry for a bargain price of P75
I love the random things one finds in these little shop, I remember once when I was much younger my parents brought some crystal wine glasses from a little shop in etsa6 in the Okavango. thanks for watching!
Good to be back with you on your travels. Brings back happy memories of Botswana camping trips many years ago. Exciting to see what the old Nissan is going to throw at you - never a dull moment!
Hey, thanks for watching, it was a great trip. The Nissan always has something up it’s sleeve 🙈 but when she goes she’s amazing. When were you camping in Botswana? A lot probably hasn’t changed but I love hearing about it!
Safaried in Botswana with a group of birding friends from 1996 to 2012, at least once a year. Had a 90 Tdi, 110 Td5 and then onto the dark side in a Hilux. Camping set up very similar to yours, plus inevitable vehicle problems (Landies!)
Dumelang.. is dat RAV4 a 4x4....i have always wondered if i can use it in such terrains and suxid.,By the way those safari vehicles are many in 1 area...i dont think its ryt.
@@dilipkakkad2260 Hey, thank you. May is a great time to visit, if we have had late and heavy rains it can still be a bit wet, but in may it should be dry mostly, altho it will still be quite green.

the bird life is always amazing! thanks for watching

You are keeping your Overlanding set up simple, which shows this does not have to be a rich man's playground only. 👍
