One Hack For BETTER Hi-hat Patterns

Just started out in music creation using flstudio. It's only now that I've started to feel irritated with any and every song due to the beats. Even with crazy variations it's all the same.
I propose a new genre: beatless. Instead of beats the song would be filled with cool instruments, tunes, effects and interactions.
This sound effect is probably the worst sounds a human can hear. 100% of songs which used this are trash and if you like this then you really don’t have music sense.
Most helpful informative vid in a while 🙏🙏
Where the sample pack, specific link
@@mattstroker3742start us off fam, make the first Beat-less song with how you described it I’m sure it would sound sick!
put them before or after the snares..... phew, that narrows it down ;)
nahhhhhh…..
Nahh, just put them every 16th note
@@rundemcheeks1639 if you do this CHANGE THE VELOCITY PLEASE
@@srdn1616 thanks for the tip
@@srdn1616 will do, boss :)
bro that’s a sick beat I will love it🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yessir!! I always add just one roll right on my snare usually on the 5th snare, then proceed like normal with the rest of the rolls. Gives the snare some movement especially if it’s a bit longer/verby snare
Sick bro... thx so much

High hat rolls kinda build up some tension before a loud snare. I like to play with the velocity and panning on rolls too. Good tips here.
Ngl, that beat is cold
That 809 crazy🔥🔥
goes hard!
I use this method a lot
Daaaamn bro. That shi sounds like its from outer space.
well sometimes too much can sound good. Examples: Redda, Grim Brxzy, Some yeat shit etc: its just ab how u create that bounce within those crazy ass rolls. Even southside beats are a good example
I thought hi hats come from the heart 😮💅💯
Quick and simple I love it
Love that melody! Also you should’ve played that trash hi hat pattern with the beat 😂 To show the difference it makes
That was fire 🔥🔥🔥☝🏾💰🙏🏾👑
Bro sounds like Trax NYC
very good
Is it ever a good idea to have multiple types of hi-hats?
Good bro.💫
Where the sample melody come from?
Good beat
What's the software he's using?
KEEP. IT. SIMPLE.
Cool
What was that Sample of melody
Sample kinda sounds pike Going bad by Drake
I'm interested in the "why" this works
Build up and release in the drums adds tension and satisfaction for listeners. This is cus the high hats, snares and open hats lead nicely into the 808 and kicks as well as the melody
Nothing makes me sadder than to se someone make their beat entirely in a pattern😔
im very used to making stuff in the pattern. i used to use the limited version of fl for 5 years so its just muscle memory now at year 10+
You sound like Vic from F is for Family lol
"that sounds trash"
Breakcore artists: 👀
one mans trash is another mans treasure
🤣
Totally
no bars held
😂
Another good tip: export your hat patterns for later use. Been doing this for 10 yrs...endless patterns.
Export them as a wave or midi?
midi defo
@@BigFish2023 Both can help. I do wav mostly (if you have the GB to do so) and keep them in packs with genre labels. You'd be surprised how an old hat pattern with some FX can back up a new one. Makes some funky Timbaland style beats.
Came for a Ruby, found a diamond
Give away or sell your midi hi hat patterns sucka and prove it!!
😡 🤜
Old rap: nothing but samples
New rap: nothing but hi hats.
The hats are not in the same key as the song. Amateur level.
@Ghandi Blyat it’s a joke my friend
These people replying don't know what a joke is 💀
@Ghandi Blyat you are absolutely bonkers if you’re saying cymbals don’t have pitch.
if i show you two different hihats they will have different pitches. this goes for irl cymbals and samples alike.
@Ghandi Blyat i guess i misunderstood what u meant by tone
@@graysonfilms4112 pitch doesn't really matter in this case, fundamental frequency is too high for it to create noticeable dissonance
I always do the timbaland method and vocalize as the beat plays usually works out well
So, You autisticly beat box over your beat?
Can you explain or paste a link to a video that explains that method?
^ WHat he said

@@nononoohfuck as above
More than 3 roll variations is a clear indication that you doing too much
No kizzy
cap
Just learn the play a saxophone and put that in the beat instead
Southside laughs in wealth
@@duhtee4335 dont think he does more than 3 often
Thank god it’s not one of those goofy yeat beats
Those drums are hard asf
Really?
Ig you can make anything and it will be “hard af” lmao
@@hhhhj5831if only fans were that easy to please...we'd all be minted 😂
To anyone looking for better sounding hats, its not just about placement!
-Sound selection, make sure you hats compliment your bass drum and snare drums!
-*TRY* avoid overlapping drums in the beat, (look into Linear Drum Rhythms) to help gain better understanding of drumming with individual and isolated space.
-Roll separation, try split your Hat rolls in the bar for example split your bar and rolls on each quarter beat and have each quarter as a cartain roll for example (beat 1 - 8th note roll, 2nd beat - 16th note roll, beat 3 - 8th note roll & 4th beat 8T roll, repeat)
-Call and Response - when repeating a loop, create variations to suit. In the example above the call and response can be seen as the 8th notes calling and the 16th/8T notes are responding.
-Effects, Phasers, Pitch Shift, doublers etc, are good ways of creating subtle various that progresses through the loops. Skrillex often uses these techniques w/automation to create character from start to finish! (See making of Rumble/Quest of Fire)
Finally as a drummer, the easiest hack I can give for unique hat rolls...listen to percussion ensembles, march bands, timpani/snare ensembles. They all rely heavily on alternating roll patterns, simply pick a few seconds and transcribe via plugins/by ear 👌❤️
not bad advice if you can follow. what hes basically saying is leave some space, and dont roll the hats through the 1 or 3. no rules of course but general ideas.
space is the most important thing to me. thats why i dont have the craziest beats (imo). this is def one of many ways to do it but space is the number 1 thing for me at all times. maybe ill do more hh videos.
Is this fl studio 20??
😂😂 now I can stop using 2 step hihats
Hihatology
Send that beat to FACE BABYFACE RAY 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Tbh, do whatever sounds nice to YOU, there are no rules
Pls dont hear on what people say on yt. IF IT SOUNDS GOOD THEN IT SOUNDS GOOD, there is no right and wrong. Most of the time you hear on these people your beats soundin like 95% of the others beats
But this video here is very good for creating that special bounce yes
Bro how do you work your samples please help a brother out.
You know, saying “beat 4” is a lot faster and more specific then “here and here”.
THANK YOU BRO BIG HELP ❤️
There are plenty of midi packs that do this for me. Imagine sitting there all day playing with hi hats.
listen to the melody and make ur hihats in ur head or the whole drumpattern like beatboxing only in ur head and then just go for it dont over do shit put looperator on and u good ✌🏽
what i usually do is just making a pattern that matches the rhythm of the rest and leave gaps, then fill up the gaps with rolls
see i was gonna add follow the melody but i only had 30 seconds. i def said this in previous videos but following the melody is a good rule of thumb
Do you have that beat on your channel
The melody is🔥🔥🔥
yeah FL makes it so easy just by using "chop". I'm trying to get Reason12 to do this lol... Well maybe not as much rolling as you're doing... It doesn't feel natural to me... But I get the idea.
Tbh I feel like a hi hat god because my patterns are simple but has so much energy check out my Juice WRLD - Talking To Voices remix (not for promo i promise, just to hear the pattern)
He the hi hat god kinda
bruh I want this sampleeeee
Good beat
Sorry, but this style will not be better than anything, no matter how you hack it! XDXDXDXD
Totally I appreciate it 🙏
You can't define it on that easy Way.
Beats are build in 2 ways "upfront and lean back".
Your Trap drum is leaning back so u have to use it before a snare. For example get some high rolls at the beginning on a upfront beat
Your mind gonna get manipulated that the beat is faster them u think,
Some good technics for doubletime rappers and more, so next time pls don't explain shit for the beginners
Melody fire
"Before or after the snares"
Lil baby wouldn't have any hats 🤣🤣
As a very experienced producer with multiple placement I agree and disagree with this at the same time, I sort of make a melody with high hats when I do mine and I place them wherever they sound good to me or fit the vibe, hi hats can change the whole vibe of your beat, you can make your beat bounce or make it catchy or make it chill, hi hats are very important
How can I make fl studio to look like that? In my piano roll my hihats occupy more than one note. How can i set it up so i can see all in little squares and perfectly put?
I never knew how much I needed this
Yes we'll use
You ever feel like your doing to much with your hi hats? Me thinking of every time I made a beat and only clicked like 3 buttons for the 2 step hat pattern 😭😭. Sound advice tho fr
Was that the hihat midi from an OVO Producer pack? lol 😂
I still don't know why hip-hop producers go totally apeshit over hi-hats dude.
Turning down velocity on the middle hats makes a big difference.
It sounded trash because the changes didnt have any kind of groove to them lmao. They were just there.
that first one would be some really good aphex twin drums
I just lay out a simple 1 step pattern and then add and remove from there. Also mess with the velocity during the rolls, like making them gradually get louder or quieter.
Still here drake: Hold my beer…
those hats go crazy😫
On splice is it normal to not be able to hear the sounds that are broke down individually something is wrong
That fucking sample 💫
It's definitely the use of anticipation that could help with this as well
I'm a total noob just started learning this week. How'd he make some hats thinner (faster) than the rest?
bro it's cool to help people that have no sense of rhythm, but calling this a "gem" is too much 🤣
Messing with the pitch on the piano roll also gives you better sounding hi hats when trying to achieve this technique
Never knew that but I made it like that just by instinct
the snare is usually on the 3 if you're not half timing it 🤦♂️
Beat is beautiful
how do his note indicators look like that? that’s not how mine look on my end. how do i change them?
All these trap beats sound the same. Zero originality.
I thought everyone knew this.
this is what i hate about producers that only work w corny artists lmfao
What happens if you use samples already built in and you do that patern
Another rule of thumb for me is if there is alot going on in the sample then keep your drums/ hi hats simple. If its a more monotone sample then u can do more complex drums
Ayo, is that IBEENART ?
I jus do a simple 2 step or add my signature rolls that I always do
wow…when are you gonna show the good example and not the trash?
It’s good to see Matt disagree with Charlie for once
There’s not rules or guidelines just listen to your favorite artist highhats and listen closely
its really all about rhythm & creating a pocket to build around. like this is just 1 way i wanted to show people just in case they feel like they are doing too much with the percussion but there are many ways.
Such hihat patterns sound trash no matter what you do with them!
People also roll on the kick too.
Hi hat rolls, worst thing to ever happen to music
Still a bit too much going on with the hats but 👌
