Welcome Thurston Charlemagne to the Mall PA club! Dude sounds nuts, looking forward to hearing from him. Haven't heard from Marna, I wonder if she's okay? Thanks for watching everyone! Let me know if you want to book Mr. Charlemagne for your next middle-aged Uncle's birthday party. Like, sub, ring the bell please.
Hey , I was at the river walk in New Orleans last week. Most of the restaurant are open. Only a couple of the store are closed. Love your vids. Keep it up.
Hope you made it to Gkenbrook Mall in Ft Wayne Indiana on your trip. I messaged you multiple time's about hitting it up on Instagram... It's been getting smaller as Sears has left than JC Penny's... Used to have a ice skating rink in the middle
don't care that you got vaccinated. stop virtue signaling that you got vaccinated. i am done with your channel. you just have to cover damned abandoned malls. You will get replaced by black lesbians.
Lying on the floor feels so rebellious, so liberating. Something you're not meant to do. No-one has ever stopped there to use that space in the way you did. Magical
Spent many a moon at this mall. I can tell you Fayette County, where this is, didn't really give 2 poops about covid. Also, the area did have a pretty huge amount of commercial outgrowth post mall construction which didn't help it much.
This was a blast from the past! I was Manager in Training for that Finish Line circa 2004 after graduating from Cal U down the road in '02. The mall was starting to get a little sketchy back then, and there were lots that stayed empty in a couple of the wings for a long time. The Finish Line floor space is HUGE. As a result, we were always sent all clothing on sale and discount shoes from our entire district... rounders upon rounders of cheap clothing; good to get rid of them for the company, but, man, our price per transaction was usually pretty low.
I love the pink and turquoise colours of this mall. Very 80's and 90's. There is something about those retro aesthetics that I just love and cannot explain why.
I work at the AEO there! It’s definitely been sad seeing so many stores close over the years that kept people coming back. I have so much history with this place ❤️
Part of my family grew up in this area of PA. Uniontown mall used to be an exciting place to go. Fun fact: one of Pennsylvania's top rated resorts, Nemacolin Woodlands, is 20 minutes up the mountain from this mall
Robert Hall clothes, Jeez that’s digging into the past. Son the ceiling is beautiful, get the hell up off the floor. I absolutely love the drone footage, it really accentuates the Malls footprint. Mr P’s vision for mall space could in fact come to fruition at some point. Loving M Charlemane. The COVID doll with the yellow eyes is truly creepy. Once again great job. Music was great as usual🥰🦇🕷🕸💃
I'm lucky enough to have THREE dead malls to walk through near my hotel in Buffalo, NY. Boulevard, Eastern Hills, and McKinley. Absolutely amazing to have real-life perspective on dead malls now. I feel incredibly lucky to have seen them before they all died.
@ODD PUZZLE PIECE They're all still around, I was just in all of them this week. They aren't dead yet...but the 80% vacancies in each one speak for themselves.
As you have probably noticed, there has been absolutely NO PLANNING in Oniontown. NONE! Randomly scattered stores and restaurants dot the landscape. Many of the businesses that left the mall are now inconveniently located in stand alone structures. The county permitted a new Aldi store to be built despite anchor space and amenities already in place at the Onion Mall. Good sources say the management absolutely will NOT work with tenants on rent. Closing anchors resulted in diminished foot traffic, yet the mall management doesn't feel it necessary to adapt to the reality. One store manager said they were not able to maintain profitability since foot traffic disappeared, and asked for a reduction in rent. The mall management refused--evidently preferring NO rent to receiving a reduced amount. It appears NAMDAR doesn't care about strengthening this property.
Troopers compared the county to Vietnam because it was a dreaded assignment for cadets at the State Police Academy. The county was also 2/3 understaffed for patrols.
Great video! I hope one day you'll check out the Northwest Mall in Houston TX. I had heard they're turning it into a train station soon. Anywho; keep up the good work Sal. We love you
One thing that is never mentioned is imagining a system where profit and capitalism is not the main objective. Imagine how much good these facilities could do if they were used for public medical, dental, performing arts, art and recreation. Just imagine. Instead of leaving it to rot or for the next developer to try and extract more profit from it. Keep up the great work. I really enjoy your videos!
Mr. Pascarella had the right idea with his vision for future malls. I'm honestly surprised that so few malls have been diversified in this way. I think the owners are missing out on a great opportunity. Another great production, Sal. Interesting to see the footage from two different times in one video. Looking forward to more as always! Thanks for all you do!
Notorious 80's early 90's color scheme. I have been to this mall too as a kid and hundreds more on the east coast. I m the mall rat ah I gets all emotional watching these episodes from being the era of when the mall was everything and seeing the old school location like this that flood my mind with flashbacks and god forbid there's footage of xmas decorations like this episode has and its depressing and even teary eyed. I miss that social safe zone and my friends . sigh
@@sal I definitely will! You have researched each location so well, but have also described business concepts in a practical way that most people can understand which is awesome lol.
Certainly some feelings for me watching this one. My first store as a store manager was in the mall. I was there spring-fall of 2003 and it wasn't exactly thriving then...but it was nothing like this! Thanks for this one!
I grew up here and back in the day, this was the place to be. I remember it being packed with people, pretty much shoulder to shoulder especially on the weekends. I moved to WV about 8 years ago and just moved back recently and was so sad to see how empty it is now.
It had a pretty big food court there near JC Penny in the late 80's-early 90's. Back when I worked in local radio they had a pool tournament in the food court that I broadcast from. Bought my wife's engagement ring at one of the jewelry stores there and she worked there at the old McCrory's before I knew her. Saw a lot of movies there too.
Thanks man. They won’t be part of *every* episode moving forward because I lots in the backlog, and the FAA restricts flight in some spots, so I can’t film…but when I can, you’ll see drone shots :)
My most significant personal historical mall experiences were with - Pheasant Lane Mall - on the NH/MA boarder, back the mid/late 1980s, along with - Burlington Mall - some miles to the south in MA, both still standing, but nothing like what they were in the 1980s, when the "only" major shopping was mall shopping, long before amazon, and the rest of e-retail began to bulldoze "in person" shopping nearly out of existence.
Great video , grew up around that mall. I got so many stories there it ain’t even funny. I remember when KBs, The Video Rental Store, EB Games , and Pocket change, I remember the McCoreys was off the edge where old radio shack was. I used to work there to I’m the telemarketing in the back corner near Sears.
These dead mall explorations are amazing. What is even more amazing are the historical narratives included with them. - I watch these videos because they give me - chills - about the way in which our society has changed, and is changing, dramatically, and in ways that corrupt "legacy media" (TV - newspaper) seems to want to bury its head in the sand about.
This was great. (Although once again I grr'd at the idea of a mall removing its fountains. Here in Australia, one of my favourite indoor/outdoor malls still has a water feature.) I'm amazed you're on the opening-back-up upswing. Here in Sydney, Australia, we've just locked down again due to a Delta outbreak. We're only around 10% vaxed, so can't take chances with Delta.
I am actually LOL at you laying on the floor...I wonder if anyone had seen you and what they were thinking lollol! In addition to getting information that I wouldn't have otherwise about these malls, you also amuse the hell out of me. Never a dull moment in your vids! You seem to have the perfect personality for doing videos like these. :) Keep up the great work!
I was in this mall shortly before the pandemic before seeing a movie in the adjacent theater (I believe they’re now an AMC theater) with some friends. There was some decent foot traffic at the time and there were a few good stores, but I could tell the place was on its way out. COVID was probably the nail in the coffin for many tenants and the population of the Mon-Fayette region has been declining for decades.
This is my hometown I only live like 5 minutes away from the mall I use to be lit there but between the crime rate and covid all the shops started to close and what it seemed like no time it was a Ghost mall with car distroying potholes in the parking lot

With me being an Auto Racing Student, this would be the Virginia 90 Exlog for Richmond and their Cup Series # and the Turquoise fits b/c of Heilig Meyers. Carmike Cinemas always got big off of Mergers and Acquisitions and they've monopolized the Cinema Scene in a Lot of Cities, like mine in Cedar Rapids.

Sal, Have you considered doing a couple of logs around Harrisburg, PA, only 1.5 hrs north of B'more. There are at least 2 nearly dead malls here; viz, The Colonial Park Mall and The Harrisburg Mall.
We went there last year on a vacation we stayed at the hotel next to the mall me and my dad were walking in the parking lot and we saw a deer in the parking lot
I 100% used to smoke weed in one of those patches of woods from the drone footage .. in the early - mid 90s this was still a fairly busy mall .. spent lots of Friday nights getting dropped off by my parents walking around this place , stealing the occasional cd from national record mart
I'm actually surprised you showed up in my neck of the woods. I remember this mall being WAY more interesting than nowadays. Literally...no more Sears, or Bon-Ton, or even Pearlevision, Dunhams, or hell...Rex?? I could go on but...this comment can't.
Totally more interesting -- though he couldn't cover the old arcade in the old food court (Fashion Bug more recently?), or even the newer arcade's empty shell!

I for some reason wasn't get notices. So 2 years late but here js an update. JcPennys closed, teletech and the theater closed now the place is a complete ghost town😊
I used to work at the Sears when it was there for a couple years...the fact that they let that call center move into the area that used to be the food court pretty much killed foot traffic...add on the crime from the teenagers, this mall just needs to close

Not quite true, I saw more people being safe with Covid here then in where I use to live, at least here people wore masks

Aldi tends to avoid malls. But yes Namdar does suck.
This was my childhood mall!! I also worked at the bath and body works there for 3+ years.
Even when this mall was at its peak in the 90s and 2000s you always felt it never met it’s full potential.
PA state police in the 70’s nicknamed the county this mall is located in Fayettenam (Fayette County).
Woah. Why???
Troopers compared the county to Vietnam because it was a dreaded assignment for cadets at the State Police Academy. The county was also 2/3 understaffed for patrols.
I grew up in Fayette County and after I moved away I heard the residents there referred to as the Fayettecong.
21:28 "Tickle Me 2020 Doll" sounds hilarious yet it touched us in a very killing silent manner, yet never to be forgotten.
