  • My final upload from my wonderful North Wales Holiday is a journey along the World's First preserved Railway (1951)...The Talyllyn Narrow Gauge Railway in North Wales. This line is probably known best for the inspiration for Rev W Audry the author of the World Famous 'Thomas The Tank' Books.
    We start at the Railway's lower terminus at Tywyn Wharf, where we see 1921 built Kerr Stuart 'Peter Sam' shunting the stock for our 7 1/4 mile run up the line behind 1991 built by the Talyllyn Railway, 'Tom Rolt' the line's newest and most powerful locomotive.
    I hope you've enjoyed my uploads during my week away, all taken without a tripod and in some very trying weather conditions....It's been a wonderful holiday...Thanks to tou all!

    My father, who died in 2015, worked as a volunteer train guard and stationmaster on the Talyllyn railway for several decades during summer holidays. This video brought back memories and I shed a tear - thank you.

    Have to admit I've really overlooked and underestimated how really scenic this small line really is, the on train footages prove it all. The Talyllyn Railway really does put itself on the map for railway preservation.

      This Railway was the inspiration for Rev W Audry's Thomas the Tank series of books, hence the familiar names on several of the locos....Bob

    • @DoctorOblivian
      @DoctorOblivian 6 років тому +8

      The Talyllyn Railway is indeed the inspiration for the Skarloey Railway in Thomas The Tank Engine, almost a 1:1 reference. The only thing that Rev. Awdry changed were the names (he used to volunteer on the Talyllyn) This engine's name is NOT Petter Sam, its Edward Thomas, however once and a while they change the name and give it a face (usually horrifying) in tribute to Rev. Awdry and Thomas the Tank engine in general.

      @@DoctorOblivian it's not as bad as Nene valley railway. They have the first ever "Thomas" and it has a terrifying face. The problem is, the face was put on the loco by the author of the books, so they can't really remove it.

    I think that our woodwork teacher -surname Lloyd- was a member of the preservation society which is how we got to go.
