Alright dude. Finally got some Nikko helgramites….went to the river…. Caught 20 smallmouth. All sizes. The biggest almost broke my med fast rod. I couldn’t believe it. A few were back to back to back casts. That bait is LEGIT. As well as your tips on how to rig and fish it. Best day I’ve ever had. THANK YOU
Nice fishing! I took a bad spill on some rocks like that 3 weeks ago while fishing the Potomac in DC/VA am still on crutches...my leg is starting to heal but it's been a slow process-am glad to at least have your videos to watch
Gonna get some Hellgrammites. They’re native to all our rivers but I never thought of using plastic ones. People here get them to sell to bait shops. One person rakes the river bottom with a garden rake while a buddy holds a screen underwater, and the current takes them right into the screen.
I feel dumb. As soon as he said NE TN and I looked at the scenery I said "looks a bit like Kingsport". He's got the location tagged and it is indeed Kingsport.
You got into some serious river bronze brother. And you cleaned up with the Nikko Hellgramites. Imagine that...candy for smallies. Thanks for taking us along John. Blessings
Alright John I heard "Virginia" and "explore that area" at the start of the video...... Come on up brother!! Plenty of good fishing all summer long. The New is about to be prime as well as our small streams near the lake. Let's go!!
I live in Kingsport, about 2 miles from where you're fishing, the restaurant there is an excellent place for seafood. The Holston river is an excellent river for smallmouth bass
Nice bunch of smallies near the 'Port ! Those Nikko 'grampous'...... what can I say, getting the job done ! Always be careful and watch for snakes. I always love The WORD. Pap Blevins
Awesome small mouth fishing. Snakes....don't be a snowflake....lol. I know you are fishing with a spinning rod and a Helga-mite lure, but, one of my favorite small mouth fishing in Texas was using a deer hair poping fly lure on a fly fishing rod casting in to the bottom of small dams in the white water. Have not done that type fishing in years you bring back great memories! Thank you for your video's. 😁❤ I do have the those Helga-mite lures have yet to be able try them out, work to much....lol.
Enjoyed the fishing. In Michigan, we used silver floating rapalas to catch some big smallies. Never used plastic worms much - confused some about the correct weight for the head/hook set-up with the plastic lure. Are there different weights?
I’ll answer that if I may… You want to use the least amount of weight that you possibly can. I’m in Michigan and fish the Grand River a lot - heaviest weight I ever use with soft plastics (unless I’m fishing for catfish) is 1/4 ounce. And the river has to be ripping to go that heavy…. Most of the “worm” baits I actually don’t use any weight at all….
Thanks for another awesome video. I sure do like using those hellgrammite's and thanks for the tips in your other videos on rigging and fishing with them...FishOn...jimi
Longtime subscriber suggestion: don't change the production values or your POV style, love it! When bank fishing consider the release technique. I wouldn't appreciate a 10-15 ft vertical belly whacker. Done my share and I didn't profit from any of them. Thanks again for sharing and the outro messages. God bless.
I’ve commented before how I feel these fish just take any lure put in front of them .. do do go off the bite at all like out of season they don’t bite ?
I love your video's. I'm kinda new at bass fishing, I got into it about two years ago. I live in Central Texas, but I can't find those lures that your using. I'm wondering if they would work in this area. Also, I love the Bible verses that you have at the end of each video, very encouraging, thanks.
I fished there shortly after you did. Lost 4 nikko hellgrammites and zman jig heads from getting hung up. Not a single fish and headache from the nail polish smell of Kingsport lol.
that smell can be bad, i think i dont hang up as much just from the hours and hours of doing it. theres no secret that i know of but the repetition makes it easier
@@CreekFishingAdventures Not complaining at all! Any day on the water is better than a day at work. I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you how much I love your channel. My daughter and I binge watch your channel. God bless you and keep you sir.
A lot of those fish were carrying scars. Are they more slender because they swim in current all the time and are more toned? Does that even make sense?
I do the same. I think it helps reduce snags when fishing a rocky river. When floating in a kayak it lets you drift the bait. I also think it gives a nice profile for the fish to see?
Can't speak for John, but I know I lost a ton of fish until I set my drag loose. They shake off easier when it's on the tight side. Now I feel like it's better that it's a little too loose than too tight.

Hellgramite and Smallmouth go together so well. Nice looking fish, colors were outstanding.

Sorry to hear that. I expect to get injured one day from a place like that. It’s so easy to fall
Smallies in current is hard to beat. Every fish is a blast
I love the colour of those Smallmouth. They are a beautiful green.and gold. They are the Princes of the river.

The data supports your knowledge. Not dumb at all. That’s experience my friend!
@@rcieszkowski It was one of those things where I was like "this looks super familiar but there's no way." There was in fact a way haha.
You're getting closer to VA! I suggest the New River for big Smallmouth and Musky

I’m envious.. being in Georgia Smallnouths are a treat and really only in two areas!

You got that right! I need to spend a lot more time in VA
JSYK Excellent restaurant right where you started.
Cross the footbridge to the island and walk down to the end, then come up the back side.
I caught my first smallie a few weeks ago on that stretch of the sluice
Just got my Nikko Hellgrammites in the mail. Can’t wait to use them this weekend!
I love catching Hellgramite and shiners in a sein net for bait. The artificial seems to
be doing all the good.

That made for a great video, and it was awesome!
Great video.be careful around that fast water.great looking fish
Good looking smallmouth bass in that fast current 👌 😎 i would have trouble fishing weightless there wouldn't i buddy!!?? Hahaha haha 😄 😆 😅

Awesome video man 🎣🎣🔥🔥
I live right where you fished here. Awesome! Good Louisiana restaurant right there! Enjoy!
John, have you ever fished the Nolichucky? I've only been once but that's probably the most amazing river I've fished - some incredible smallie water.
just once and i flipped my kayak, i need to go back
Nice video. My home town. God bless you!
No one.....no one, makes a hellgrammite like Nikko.
I have package of their hellgramite lures on order from Amazon.

Oh dang. I was just there last Sunday. Fished the pylons just to your right for a bit, some good small mouth action out that way.
Hey how long are you gonna be in the area? We watch your videos all the time and our grandson would love to meet you!
A lot of those fish were carrying scars. Are they more slender because they swim in current all the time and are more toned? Does that even make sense?
ive wondered about how slender they are, that is common in TN but up north they are much fatter in current
Wish you would take a moment and tell us the gear your using in these situations.
I think it’s in his description
Now there’s something ya don’t hear much when fishing. “ get off that mattress “. Funny!!
@@TheFish0917that's what she said!😁
He did at the end of the video
@@caydo300
Oh didn't see it. I don't usually check there on videos honestly.
How can I avoid losing my baits in rocky rivers? Awesome video 💯
Use lighter lures, it’s hard not to lose them
A lot of it is casting angles too
Hi what hooks do you use for the hellgramite?
usually like the zman bulletz 1/10 oz
Ole domtar, I fish the island a lot. Man I really wish you would let me take you at night for a different kind of video and big big brown trout
Know that area well
I have caught more trout than bass on the hellgramite but it does catch fish.
It’s bad I knew exactly where you were just from the thumbnail lol
I thought that was Mickah Burkhart 😂😂
You you hook the hellgrammite, through the side?
Yes
I do the same. I think it helps reduce snags when fishing a rocky river. When floating in a kayak it lets you drift the bait. I also think it gives a nice profile for the fish to see?
First thing that caught my eye was all the litter😢

its what i feel works, ive broke off many times from the drag too tight

Hey you are fishing in my spot
They look like youth footballs.
Do you really call this a creek?
no its a river
