  • 85 year old Pete needs some help in his garden, he asked for my help and of course I said yes. I've been in this garden before, and what a wild and beautiful natural garden this mans hard work has created.
Unfortunately, he's injured his back. Otherwise I know he would have done this himself, he never asked me to work for free. I offered, he's an absolute legend and a really hard worker. Plus, I would take any opportunity to get a chance to return to this lovely little slice of wildlife heaven.
    Let the gardening commence.......
Thank you all so much for watching ❤️❤️❤️

Wishing Pete a quick recovery especially as a bad back is such a hindrance for most of gardening. He has an exceptionally beautiful nature garden and I greatly admire someone who keeps one. Sadly many people don’t understand that they are so important to wildlife and aren’t a reason for keeping a garden untidy. I always remember Pam Ayres talking about hedgehog populations had gone down since gardens were being so heavily bricked and fenced in that it made it difficult for them to find a mate. I had so many come through my garden last year that one night there were nine of them cleaning my garden for me. I can’t say I liked the sound of them crunching on the snails but their grunting and snorting is hilarious. Yes you could definitely be the next soft drink guy. Get a sponsor and change the time to a ten o’clock break instead of Coke’s eleven one lol!! All the best xx

      Thank you 😊
I'm afraid Pam has it right, I don't see too many nowadays. And the last few I've seem have been quite poorly. Waking up too early from hibernation 😥 ots really sad. I know a local lady who runs a charity hedgehog rescue place. And it's not good news at all.
I used to see them everywhere where I live.
P.s. Pete is already getting better, he's a tough old goat 😂 I hope I'm lucky enough to be like that one day 🤞
I'm looking forward to getting stuck into the back nature garden next week. It'd be nice if it stayed dry.
P.p.s. Thank you for your (always) lovey comments.
      Martin.

GREETINGS MARTIN & PETE FROM WASHINGTON STATE! I adore your videos and this one has become my instant favorite of those that I've seen so far. You are my kind of gardener... you can do it all! Formal, crisp edges and manicured lawns, perfectly coifed hedges, but also a gentle hand in a natural garden, carefully salvaging sweet Primroses, sowing seeds of happy color, and a tender touch saving our froggy friends! 🐸 This was sooooo satisfying to see. You have moved to the top of my yard care channels. Thank you for all you do in every garden you do. I am SUPER happy that I'll be seeing a garden with water feature/pond in it!! Will you show Pete's water garden someday? (or Might I ask you to add a link to the video in your description box? That way we could jump right to the video.) I'd LOVE to see what he's done. I am so sorry he hurt his back... I know the pain. (3 Back surgeries and a shoulder surgery and upper arm surgery have forced me into far less gardening, though I am only 58.) What an amazing job he's done all these years and only got hit with an injury so much later in life. Sending healing prayers to him, and best wishes to you from Lakewood, Washington! 💛🖤💛Stacy's Artful Heart

@@martinthegardenguy it was great hearing from you. Your filming technique is very good, and makes watching a pleasure. Texas is so big, it’s like a whole country with different climates. Far north Texas gets snow every year, while south Texas drivers would have no idea what to do in a snow storm. I live in East Texas which is beautiful, lots of trees, native flowers, and moderate weather. The possibilities are endless here. My garden is sadly lacking since my health is not so good anymore, but there are some here that are absolutely gorgeous. I’m so glad I found your channel! Let it ferment up to 8 to 14 days it depends on the growing temperature and how acidic /sour you prefer your Kombucha. The tea becomes a healthy tonic by eight days.
Some people remove the nice fungus, that forms on top, and then refrigerates the tea immediately. I drink my tea in just a few days, so I don’t bother removing the culture fungus until the end and I don’t refrigerate my tea. If you drink your tea within 2 to 3 days. You can leave it in your glass container at room temperature. Refrigerating the tea changes the taste and slows down the fermentation process. For the next time, make sure that you have one cup of your finished tea and the fungus that forms; put them both in a Ziploc bag and refrigerate it will last up to 10 days. Your savings are even greater if you can keep your kombucha tea going before you refrigerated culture expires.
If you want to do a second fermentation. Then use glass jars. I use mine from Italy. I add one teaspoon of sugar and my favorite fruit juice or fruit. About 1/4 of the bottle I put juice or fruit. Then fill with kombucha and seal the top. I leave it on my counter for two days and then refrigerate.
Fermentation all depends on the room temperature of your home. Second fermentation is like having a soda.
I hope this helps. If you make it you’ll have to post a short or video of your success.

Yeah, it's a line trimmer. I have the blade head as well, but rarely us it.
Yeah, the weather is proper pants, a big pair or smelly, dirty, soggy pants! 😂
But I remain hopeful it going to improve soon 😁 before my backlog of work gets too big.
      Best of luck

      Hello 👋
This garden the grass was very wet, so I didn't think the mower would pick up the cuttings very well. I'd be constantly bending over to unclog the mower.
So I shortened it a little fist.
There is some method to my madness 😂 but only sometimes, haha.
      Thanks
      Martin.

Do you weed eat first because it will be easier to mow?

    • @martinthegardenguy
      @martinthegardenguy  6 місяців тому

In this garden, I did it first because the grass was long and wet. Although it's hard to see on the video, the grass was laying over in lots of random directions. So the mowe would have struggled to cut it all at the same length.
So I use the weed eater first to chop up all the uneven bits and then the rake to remove the cut grass and also make the grass blades stand up, ready for the mower 😁 a bit long winded, but it seems to work OK.
Thanks for the cracking question 👏 👍
      Martin.

I really enjoyed the the information about the older gentleman and his beautiful garden ❤ I pray I will be in my yard still at his age 😊.
You did a beautiful job tidying up, looks good. Love the wild flower planting, it will be amazing I am sure when the flowers come up.
Hilarious about the diet coke representative talk! Lol, I personally think you would be good at it because you have the personality for it and people can relate to a person who is like them in everyday life. 🎉
Unfortunately frogs are my archenemy 😂. I don't like them lol . I call them the spawn of Satan!!! Sorry. I am sure they have purpose and I don't kill them but I rather they live away from my yard. They can be quiet loud as well in their talking 😅.
    Take Care!
    Love from Georgia ❤😊

Well, I suppose we all have something. I'm not keep on bats and snakes 😂 like you, though with frogs, I know they have a purpose. I'm just happy when I can't see them 😁
About the diet coke thing, someone has mentioned I'd be more suitable for the meat pie market 😂
Thanks again for this lovely comment.

The weather here today is absolutely beautiful. Sunny and my plants are blooming and it's cool weather. Going to put more fertilizer on my azaleas and hydrangeas so that the blooms will be all summer 🌞
The pansies I planted in the winter are still blooming but soon the warmer weather will take hold of them so soon I will be planting summer flowers in pots etc.
      Love it .
Meat pie 😂 that's funny. Well the midlife body shows up on most of us unfortunately but it's all about enjoying life and family, friends and what we love doing in my opinion that matters most. Health is important as well.
I learned a lesson after having a baby with weight watchers program many years ago that it's all about portion control and less carbs and sugar intake, and for me a treadmill everyday. I lost sixty pounds in six months so it works. Also I ate six small meals a day to keep metabolism running mostly fish, veggies, and fruit and healthy soups. I think the portion control is key for me and less sugar intake. I am from the south so we eat alot of delicious food but bad for us lol 😂
My son was 10 pounds 3 ozs 22 inches long 😳😄❤️. His was a football player most of his childhood and teens. He is in college , graduation soon he is doing great. Proud of him. Mechanical engineering degree with electrical and robotics as well. They grow up fast.
Enjoy the girls these times are hard when they are little but also great memories 😁❤️ different seasons to enjoy with kids 😊 as they grow up .
Nice to hear from you and take care 🤗

    • @martinthegardenguy
      @martinthegardenguy  6 місяців тому

Oh wow, what a question. It could be the world's longest reply! 😂
Could you be a bit more specific? What weeds are being a problem?
Some basics, though. Generally speaking, weeds (and noss) are a symptom of a problem in the lawn. Not many plants can compete with healthy grass. It's a real thug of a plant, really.
But let me know which weeds are the problem, and I'll try and help out 👍😁
