Thank you for explaining everything so clearly - what I really appreciate is the time you take to explain the parts that can be tricky and how to resolve tricky bits when I would have otherwise just given up - amazing Thanks again!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it easy to follow. I like to leave my "oops" moments in the videos when I go wrong or when something isn't working quite right in case it helps someone who is having the same issue :)
Thank you for mentioning the settings area and the ability to switch to a classic screen. I have had lots of problems with DS and did not notice I had this option. Great tip!
Ohh Sarah, Thank You so much for your in depth tutorials. You make designing and using Cricut design space so much simple. You’re always my go to gal for designing and using cricut design space.
Thank you so much for this video. I love doing layered mandalas and always had to purchase them because I didn't know how to make me own. I thank you so much for sharing this video
Sarah, you are such a wonderful youtuber! first time to watch a video for you today.. I watched 2 wonderful videos this one and the offset! great work! thank you
This was so good and easy to follow! Thank you! I really love the layered mandala and zentangle designs. Now my brain is going with all the possibilities. I'm going to add your Lovely Layering course to my birthday wish list!
Hi Sarah! I So LOVED your easy zentangle layered unicorn tutorial!! Seems A LOT easier than I thought it would be. I only recently purchased a Cricut Maker machine (Not the newest No.3 version) but still a fairly recent one. I can't wait to start learning how to use the Cricut Design Space and finally creating!
This is an awesome tutorial, Sarah! I just signed up for your lovely layering tutorials! I’m excited to be more in-depth with my Cricut designs. Yay!!!
This was super. I saw that you have info on your site about using your design files in Canvas workspace. Do you know if what your showing in this tutorial can be done in Canvas workspace? I can't seem to find any tutorials. Thanks.
Do you mean a layered image OF a scroll saw, or a layered image to cut USING a scroll saw? IF you mean the first, then yes you can use the same technique if you can find a "zentangle" style SVG to use. For the second, then I don't think it will work because Design Space doesn't let you save files outside of their program, so if you needed it in a different software then you wouldn't be able to.
You are an amazing teacher! 🙏🏼🥰 I’ve been looking for this tutorial forever!! Thank you!!🙏🏼 I have seen some Mandalas with layers in different sizes, do you have one that teaches how to do that? 🙏🏼
Its ok i dont either. I have cricut maker but use silhouette studio to do designs tht cricut doesn't do well at. Silhouette studio allows you to save ur projects in different file types🙂
Brilliant! You are a great teacher and I learned a lot. I'm going to investigate your other lessons. I've been using Cricut to make box cards created by other designers. I've tried a bit of vinyl for projects but have been unhappy with the results. This looks like something that would be lovely for t-shirts but would these layered designs work for that?
I'm not sure, I haven't done any layering with HTV personally so I'm probably not the best person to ask but I think it would get too thick with all the layers of vinyl as it would be five whole layers on top of each other.
Hi Sarah! I just found you at the CMSS. I was watching this video from early in 2021. You made a comment about the classic design space being better for contouring projects. I haven't used my cricut for quite awhile. Is that still the case in Feb 2022?
Cricut removed the ability to switch between Classic and New in a Design Space update after I recorded this video, so now only the New version is available :(
Note: I'm using v7.23.160 and this screen does not look like this. I am using an Explore Air 2, and that may be why. The only way I can switch the version of Design Space is on the "General" tab, which has the language option, where to save files and 'Application Experience' which lets me choose between Beta or Live. I switched to Live, figuring that would be closest to what you show here. The contour feature is MUCH better here, as you can select the pieces from the side bar. This feature is gone on the 'new' version and it's really hard to click on some of the smaller pieces. I wish we could choose which improvements we want and not have to take all or nothing.
Hi Dee, this video is quite old now so Design Space does look different now as they have updated the software several times since this video was recorded. I will be recording an updated version in a few weeks.
Hi Sarah, I think this tutorial is the best contouring tutorial! But Something in contouring is still confusing me- the main issue is the right panel So when you click on a piece in the image (left side) , it becomes faded grey (means filled in with colour/taking that shape away/hide the contour)- on the other hand, if you click on the piece in the right panel, to do the same job, clicking on a piece, will make the rectangle in the right panel dark grey So I’m confused, as it makes me feel they are opposite effect to each other. Waiting for the image to load takes ages, that’s why I was hoping the right panel is easier to use, but on right panel, it’s almost impossible to find the exact piece I want to fill in/hide If I click on the pieces in the image, it takes so long to show black boarders to the piece I want to click on (much slower than you were demonstrating)- I know it depends on Ds version Also I can not move the contour window to right or left to see the design underneath I wish the Cricut IT can make changes to the contouring function Also one of my dreams that they make the filling in contouring exact the same colour like the actual layer - and when i fill in, it shows the actual colour filled in - so we can see properly how the final outcome looks like - instead of dark grey and faded grey. Also when I zoom in and out the contouring window, it takes even more time to load. Makes the whole design takes hours to finish 5 layers. *update: the current DS version, doesn’t show the changes while you are contouring, until you close the contouring window 😂 Any chance, you can pass please our feedback to Cricut software. If you believe the same needs to be updated. They may respond to your feedback quicker as you are a famous youtuber Apart from this, I think DS is super easy to use. Thanks heaps
Oh no :( What parts are you struggling with? I am re-doing this video soon in the newest version of Design Space, so maybe that one will make the steps clearer.
Image number #M339E8513 in Cricut Access would work well with this technique. Or, there is a premade layered sparrow design on Etsy: www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1235236971/sparrow-mandala-svg-sparrow-3d-layered

I hope it helps! It seems to fix quite a few little bugs for me by using it in the Classic mode.
Great video, I'm new to the cricut world.
Welcome to the fun world of Cricut! I hope you have fun with your new machine :)
Wow, thanks Sarah, I've learned so much from watching your videos in the past hour, you are the best!

Great tutorial!
Thank you!
great tutorial, when do you think you will offer the discount again on your lovely course? thanks
Probably not until next year, but I haven't decided on my Black Friday deals for this year yet... so *possibly* for that in November.
Thank you a very clear tutorial for me a beginner. Can you use this process also using Offset to be able to create a scroll saw cut 3d image..
Do you mean a layered image OF a scroll saw, or a layered image to cut USING a scroll saw?

Nice.. do u do tutorials on silhouette also?
I'm afraid I don't because I don't have a Silhouette machine, sorry :(

Hi Kris, unfortunately Design Space does not have the option to switch between the classic/new versions any more, so you can only use the "new" one.
Looks easy to make, how do I do this on an IPad? I can’t find any videos on it
You should be able to use the Contour tool on the iPad too :)
do you layer them flat or w pop dots to raise it up for a 3d effect
It's up to you :)
I don't have the option to switch to classic. I'm having a hard time using the contour tool

I m lost after the third layer
Oh no :( What parts are you struggling with? I am re-doing this video soon in the newest version of Design Space, so maybe that one will make the steps clearer.
Ok thanks lol
I would like to learn to do a sparrow bird
Image number #M339E8513 in Cricut Access would work well with this technique.

Lot of the clips I use say not supported by Joy
You should be able to cut designs like this on the Joy, you will just need to resize it small enough that the Joy can cut it.
good tutorial po #alona
Thank you :)
That's colored layers. It's not 3D.
It's designed to be cut from cardstock and then stuck together with foam pads to make a layered design, often referred to as a 3D layered design.
