  • In this video, I'm exploring and testing the Dusun DSGW-210 Home Assistant Gateway. I explore the capabilities, quirks, and overall performance of this IoT Edge computer.
Dusun did send this gateway for free for me to test but they are not sponsoring the video in any way and all of the conclusions are solely mine.
In the video, I'm going through the issues that I had when I first connected the gateway, the issues with setting up Bluetooth as well as some of the quirks of the power button and the built in battery.
We will also test the built-in Zigbee integration as well as going over the different states of the gateway indicated by the onboard LEDs.
    Key Gateway Features:
    - RK 3328 quad-core Cortex A53 processor
    - 2GB of RAM with 32GB of onboard storage (upgradable to 128GB)
    - Built-in modules for WiFi, Zigbee, Z-Wave, and optional LoRa
    - Linux Debian 11 OS
    - Docker containerization for Home Assistant
    - 6000 mAh lithium-ion battery for backup
    - Included mounting bracket for wall or ceiling installation
If you have any troubleshooting tips for the issues I encountered, ideas for integration tests, or specific features you'd like me to explore further, drop a comment below. Your feedback helps me create follow-up content that addresses your queries and needs.

Thanks for the review. I was considering buying this instead of Home Assistant Green, you saved me from purchasing this "crap".

Hi, I've been offered for £60 which is cheaper than Pi 4 or HA Green. Is it worth or should I just stump slightly extra and go for either of other options? I can get minipc for similar price but looking for all in one system with low power consumption.

You should really compare it with Pi 3 instead. Going with Pi 4 or mini pc is much better.

It doesn't look too bad, but you are right, it is a Cortex A53, which is same specs as a Raspberry Pi 3. This really is only suitable for small installations. Home Assistant Green would be a much better option, or even a Raspberry Pi 4 whcih can be obtained cheaper than this device. It's just too much mucking to get a device like this working when the HA Green is a bit cheaper, and works out of the box or a Raspberry Pi 4 that installs directly and easily. I understand the battery might be nice, but I think an external UPS would be a better option.

Yeah, your comment sums it well. It promises a lot but we have better options.

I have Dusun DS210 and have installed HA on it. I will tell you this, it's not worth getting it. You have to always reinstall every few weeks as HA will stop working and start showing you persistent error when you try to login to HA and the only way to fix it is to reinstall the Debian firmware. Also, for some reason it non-stop ping to baidu that I have to block through host file but I really lose trust as I don't know what it's doing in the background.

Hmmm I did not noticed the call to Baidu... that's sketchy... In any case, this is also my conclusion, we do have a lot of better options for HA. I personally run it on a Mini PC with Proxmox.
