I loved my hamsters. They were so much fun and had very distinct personalities (like one of them I swear was messing with me when she'd jump out of my hand when I picked her up, the others would run to the other side of the cage, she would just move away from my hand and just stare at me). I'm also reminded of how Dale tried to breed hamster gerbil hybrids for the Y2K apocalypse in king of the hill.
These things you point out are absolutely accurate! I had hamsters and gerbils when I was younger and I noticed the gerbils were always super active and playful during the day but very quiet at night. Meanwhile my hamster (named Snowball) would hide away during the day, but come out and run on his hamster wheel at night for hours on end. I found it to be a very soothing sound and often fell asleep to it lol! Also, I’ve noticed that gerbils tend to build things more than hamsters do. I remember one time, I made these two special beds: one for my hamster and another for my gerbils. My hamster seemed happy to sleep in it as is for the most part, while my gerbils completely shredded it and turned it into a mound of fluff that they could burrow into. It was quite interesting.🤔
