Ladies please never forget that when you're dating someone it's your responsibility to study their culture, LOOK AT THEIR FAMILY DYNAMICS, look at how his family treats him, this will determine how they will treat you, does he have a healthy detachment and boundaries with his family? Is his mother overbearing? His father? Siblings? NEVER FORGET THAT YOU ARE ALSO INTERVIEWING THEM!! ARE THEY GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU? DO YOU FEEL SAFE AROUND THEM? DO THEY GOSSIP ABOUT OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS? ARE YOU MARRYING INTO A TOXIC FAMILY? me and mines come together and created our own traditions (he is Jewish) and we decide how we want extended families to be involved in our lives, not the other way around. Nobody is forced to do nothing they don't want to do and we free to live our lives from stress of extended family obligations. It's about knowing yourselves as a couple and you two becoming family. Never be desperate for any man to point where you will overlook the red flags of his family or his behavior. You have to protect each other from your extended families. ❤✌🏾

I dated outside my race for the first time last year. The guy was half Italian. Several dates in we made dinner at my place together in which he brought some homemade bread to go with my Cajun pasta dish. The bread was delicious! My favorite part about Mathew was his emotional availability and his intellectual ability. This is something I’ve never quite experienced within my own race. I honestly went in with Matt not expecting very much at all as I was not all that interested in the beginning not knowing that I’d later fall for him completely. Unfortunately we weren’t a good fit for eachother but the experience left me more open minded now than I was before! Cheers!

Hi Chris , I‘m married to an Italian from Tuscany, as your guest said they are all about family.I met his family 3 weeks after we met. Started learning the language immensely thereafter .If you want to bond easily with the family you should get aquianted with their culture, their way of life and their language. Speaking their language is a plus, then the older women of the family will see you in a different light, then communication is of atmost importance, the women of the family want you to communicated with them directly and not thru your partner. It‘s 17 years since I’ve met my husband and it‘s great, my Italian family were here in Germany where my husband , our son( from my first marriage) and I resides for Christmas , believe me we had a ball😊 During their stay we all spoke mostly Italian and of course went to church services, then this is very important to them.. Fact is if you meet an Italian and he falls in loves with you, he will set the tone of how he wishes for you to be treated, his family will recognize how important you are to him, the way he treats you will reflects how he sees you .Chris is right there are some great similarities between Italians and BP . Italy is not perfect, there is racism there, but personally I’ve not experienced it, we have a place in Tuscany and Sardinien , and I’m friends in Italy very often during Sommer and it’s been great. My son is biracial and has travel Italy without problems, ladies donot allow other people’s experience weight you down. Racism is everywhere , but you cannot allow it to dictate your life. Go out and date, use the dating apps they are wonderful and enjoy life at it’s fullest.

Sidenote: My niece wants to travel to China to try all their foods. She never expressed such a desire until I came to live with her, her sisters, and her mom (I'd been teaching the girls different languages and cultures). She said she is hesitant to go to China because her mom said "Chinese people hate black people." I told her: "Where isn't there racism, colorism, sexism, etc? It's everywhere! The second you let other people deter you from what you want is the second you lose a piece of yourself. Don't be your own bully. You're so much better than that and you deserve fulfillment in your experiences." We live in a northern state that is so bland it's not even funny. Living here will have you thinking black people belong at the bottom and they should be happy about it. I have to retrain her/their way of thinking.

Christelyn, thank you agian and agian for this feature. I have followed you since your Beyond Black and White blog. Your sincere love for black girls and women is a blessing and much appreciated.
I have been married to a 3rd generation Italian American man for twenty years. Italian men are passionate, extremely expressive, traditional and mens men. And yes, ladies they are excellent providers and protectors.
They also take their passion to the bedroom and he will want to please you,......and he definitely WILL please you., agian, agian, and agian.😉
I personally believe Italian men are the sexist race of men.
Italy is known for their cuisine, art, Roman culture like tbe leaning tower of Pizazza, Venice, wine country, expensive sports cars, and the Pope and Vatican city.
Like all race, they also have distinct similarities. They love family and are devout Catholics.
Before we were married I converted into the Catholic religion. Our son went to Catholic school since kindergarten. As a family we attend Mass on Sunday.
I love being Catholic and was married in a huge historical and beautiful Cathedral church.
Some races of men are intimidated by black men. Italian men have just as much swag and are NOT concerned about black men,.....at all!
My husband is fair skinned with sky blue eyes and curly blond thick hair. Yet his strong Italian last name and expressive mannerism screams Italian. My husbands mothers family is from Northern Italy, Milan. His father is half Sicilian and Irish.
His mothers northern Italy family had issues with her dating a Scilian man for several years.
My son looks like my husband with fair skin, light eyes and dark curly hair.
My husband said growing up his parents found racism towards black Americans unexceptable. When we first started dating my mother in law was totally against
It took my husband fr to put his foot down andalso the birth of our son. We ended up being very close and they adore our son. Family is very important with Italian culture.
Also ladies my husband is the cook and he is great one. Yet, my husband is still a alpha man that protects and financially provides.
White men are not all alike. German, Irish, French, and Italian cultures are different.

I definitely felt some type of way about her adding unnecessary drama onto our relationship. My husband always put me first but it hurt him because he loved his mother.
When she came around we had a wonderful relationship.

I finally met her when she was very old, in her 80s, and she was very sweet towards me. She and I got along great, and kept in touch after he died in 2018, and up until she died in 2021. HOWEVER.. he told me that his mother was extremely bigoted in her younger days. He said he tried bringing home a black woman in the 1970s, and it went horribly.❤

I am sorry to hear they are both gone but glad she opened up.
I have a beautiful son who is in college. I have no idea what type of girl he will bring home. Right now they are all " friends."

The woman, even to this day, works 40 hours a week out of the home, cooks amazing meals (no leftovers rarely takeout) , are primary caregivers of children. Life expectancy is shorter for women in my family because of it. When Frank described the “soft landing” after work with good smells in the house etc, how lovely is that? Btw, we are Catholic, too, and the expectations are real for marriage within the church, baptism, etc. it could even be that a family like Frank’s might be even more accepting of a Black woman if she’s Catholic. Also, respect his mother!! Praise cooking and learn because she’s not trying to give her son to a take-out lady. :-)

I watch a lot of Black Female Solo Travel Vlogs and Italy is a popular destination for black ladies. Sicily is is also popular for traveling black ladies. I had no idea how many black ladies are married to Italian men in Italy. The gentleman you interviewed was so nice, and his masculinity was so polarized. Please bring more handsome masculine non black men on your show. 2024 is going to be a great year for black ladies when it comes to traveling overseas and finding love. The world is open to us and the world is ours for the taking.

If there are any Italian men/boys watching visiting this site and are interested in African/American women and feel a love for them in your heart: GO FOR IT!!! Don't make the same mistake I made so many years ago trying to please my family's expectations of who I should marry and be with to make them happy. I tell my two sons always to go for who they love deep in their heart and it does not matter what their racial makeup is as long as they love you truly. Remember, people that talk behind your back are talking to your ass.
Not only are African/American beautiful, they are the most resourceful and courageous women on the planet.

I want to hear what they suggest as the remedy of staleness in traditional marraiges/committed relationships. If they go out and work, develop themselves, become more worldy, etc but they have a SAHW/SAHM as a partner who begins to bore them. What do traditional men want they wives to do? Will they support her personal growth? Will they support her taking courses or creating a business or engaginging in community or professional associations? Italian men often exude a robust and unfiltered charm, embodying a distinct cultural persona. Many of them may exhibit a more straightforward communication style, emphasizing the importance of gestures and emotions over an expansive vocabulary. The frequent use of profanity can be a turn-off for me. Their inclination towards a narrower culinary scope, predominantly favoring Italian cuisine, speaks to a deep-rooted connection to their heritage, but it may also reflect a limited exposure to other cultures.
If you choose to date an Italian man, consider those in professional fields, as they tend to be less rough around the edges compared to the average Joe, such as a construction worker.

Just to add context to Italy & migrants from Africa, its not a color dynamic, its a religious-cultural dynamic. Many of these migrants are non-Christian and they are mostly single men, this sets families on edge. Europe in general are having issues with these migrants. Denmark is paying migrants to leave & recent elections are moving towards a conservative trend as well in many European nations. Recently, Italy has been in opposition to the general EU guidelines & made it a ruling that only biological women can participate in the Miss Italy contest, in opposition to this Miss Netherlands is a transgender male. So, this has set Italians in opposition to dictates of the EU.

My mother in law and her hubby are Italian and have always considered themselves white, as does my husband, who is half Italian half Romanian. A lot of these eastern europeans and Italians seem to be oblivious to the fact that in America they were not considered white until after the industrial revolution. Whites segregated themselves from Italians, just as they did Blacks, and would be refused of services due to their Italian heritage. For a time, they were very often lynched as well. I'm from Louisiana and New Orleans was home to a large population of Italian immigrants in the late 1800s as well. Many of them came as a result of reconstruction and took over the jobs of freed slaves. There were and still are a prominent family called Gambino and I believe they were connected to the Italian mob. Anyhow the largest lynching of Italian Americans took place in New Orleans in the 1890s following several Sicilians being acquitted for a white policeman's murder. The perps were never charged. Their families at least did at least get reparations. This lynching inspired Columbus Day so that American whites could more readily identify with Italians. Of course whites wanted to take credit for "discovering" America.

The first wave of Italian/Sicilian migration took place in New Orleans, Louisiana. After the emancipation of the slaves, Italians, specifically Sicilians, were brought to the south to do the work of the former slaves. Italians in the south were placed under Jim Crow. It was not uncommon for an Italian family to have a child with brown skin, brown eyes, jet black hair and another child with green eyes and red hair (like in my family). They were discriminated against by the southern whites at the time, because they were seen has legitimizing African/Americans. In 1891, 11 Italians were killed, some lynched, by an angry mob of the citizenry after being found not guilty of the murder of the chief of police of New Orleans; there unfound accusations of "mafia." At the time, the French Quarter was almost renamed Little Palermo, because there were so many Sicilians living there. Of the lynching, President Theodore Roosevelt said "It was a good thing." In 1999 the movie "Vendetta" came out which tells this story. There is also the book with the same title by Richard Gambino. Like most of our American history, the book and movie straighten out some misinformation.

Feels like a lot of marriages were kinda fake back in the day, (and still are) people just accepted marriage as the norm because people moved in similar religious groups that binded them to marriage. Now our society is so much more emotionally/psychologically advanced and women are requiring less from men commitment wise and have babies out of wedlock more often. Society has always been in a moral deficit and division, but more so now because people are veering off into their own way of beliefs and values (more than before) and now marriage is not a bandaid solution to that anymore with our freedom as women. And a lot of people back in the day were unhappily married and people dont have to tolerate that and society is not telling them to anymore.

You have the same theory as me :)
It's one of the reasons I scoff at people who'll go as far as saying black people are cursed. On the contrary - we're blessed to be of a land that provides for us spontaneously. We're blessed to not have to rely on 'development' for our survival.
Of course, without that drive, we're likely to remain the poorest demographic in the world... but we own the cradle of humanity and we're the oldest living phenotype. No war or breakdown of global commerce will threaten our survival.
On the flipside -- Jews, the smartest and most productive of us, are living in a perpetual, existential crisis. The Hans nearly starved to death (and could actually in the near future), and the Caucasians way up north were whittled down to but a handful of vicious Vikings before finally managing to develop out of frozen hell. They remain today, cold, both figuratively and literally.
Generally, Blacks have had it easiest... and STILL, when we show up to the US and UK our Nigerians and Ugandans kick academic and financial ass.
    Just subscribed :)

Just watch some Spike Lee movies..."Do the Right Thing", "Jungle Fever"...those will give you a true depiction of the Italian American-Black American dynamics. Like Spike Lee, I grew up in Brooklyn (Flatbush=Caribbean immigrants), probably the most ethnically diverse "city" in the world; every ethnic group had their own neighborhood...Bed Stuy=Black, Sheepshead Bay=Jewish, Bensonhurst=Italian, etc, but as far as Bensonhurst there was a well known unwritten rule that black people better not go into Bensonhurst!!! I appreciate Frank's honesty on the racial dynamics (sorry, but I think Chris was trying to minimize and romanticize it a bit). I'm black and married to a northern Italian (born/raised in Italy), and even he sees the HUGE difference between American Italians (very clanish/borish) and continental Italians (they don't make a deal about being Italian, they just are)...he can not relate. And trust me, ladies, Italian men (Italy) are not out "looking" for black women. If they happen to meet one that they like and vibe with her, then they seem to have no problem with it. One big exception I must state is that Italians look upon Black Americans and Black Africans VERY differently, your American-ness goes a long way. Sorry for the long post.

Italian men do not respect men who create fatherless homes. Call it the influence of the church or 'patriarchy" or whatever, but over there, men actually gate-keep each other (and women do the same among themselves as well).
When I think about it, it doesn't mean the women are let off the hook to be irresponsible. It just means that women's lives are made a little easier---i.e., it's easier to "choose better". Out-of -wedlock births are not uncommon, especially in the north, but from what I've seen, people still stay together, but don't necessarily get married, i.e., mother is single on paper but the father is in the home. I'm not sure how these couples are counted in the stats, but regardless, Italy has way, way, way less of the social problems created by the lack of fathers in the home.
Juicy (but sad) story: My husband was a consultant for a small regional airline that needed to reassign pilots to new routes. Pilots also don't have a great reputation, either; and let's just say, of the Italian and German pilots for this one route, of course a few Italian pilots (but no German ones) were outed for having families on each side of the border!! Che storia!
