3dsmax - because it has the best UVW mapping out of any 3d software. c4d is the easiest of all the choices. blender... no. dont blender... But really, MAYA and 3DSMAX are the ones best for film animation.. zbrush is the best FOUNDATION though.
Hello everybody, im new at modeling in general and just finished my first monster using ZBrush, it is any place where i can share my atempt to do art and recive some constructive criticism?, it will be great if i can lean more of the community. Thanks you all for the help.
I own zbrush and i am just trying to figure out how they make them move in the movies if they are a sculpture. I am a new owner and would love to know where to go to learn that. I start directing school next year and am trying to be ahead of the game.
Its not a sculpture, its a RIGGED ANIMATION. Sculptures are just for visuals (like a posed picture you would draw). Rigging, and animating the facial expressions would be last. You got a long way to go before rigging. Study tutorials on learning the interface 1st ,then, you will be at a good start.
It's crazy after seeing all the movies I saw this year I wondered if Ant-Man which I'm currently seeing would pop up and it did! I still wonder if ZB is only used for concept or full modeling and render considering how difficult it is to animate z models.

A movie studio uses hundreds of programs across different operating systems. With people in different places across the world. zBrush for most part, is a quick way to sculpt how a creature or machine will look. zBrush isn't a complete movie studio in any possible way. It's just for pretty monsters. zBrush doesn't understand real world physics. Monsters Inc for instance, had a ton of physics in it, and puppetry, and endless facial expressions. zBrush is not any of that. :P
+Put 'em in da RED Completely agree, started using Mudbox initially but switch to Zbrush cause everyone says it's better. Man the interface is a joke. Mudbox you can pretty much pick up and use straight away, Zbrush I had to watch like hour long tutorial vids just to navigate about.
Danblukk Exactly! I messaged the ZBrush team on Facebook a year ago with the same thing and the person responded with (we aren't trying to be like Mudbox). The person couldn't get through his head that is not about trying to be like Mudbox, but more on trying to get new users that haven't been with ZBrush since the earlier versions up and running with a more intuitive system.
I think the issue isn't that they're not trying to be like mudbox, and more that they're trying NOT to be like mudbox. Standards are standards for a reason, people.
Stefan Blandin zbrush came out long before mudbox and there is no need for such an emotional response. Secondly, you obviously don't know how much a UI change can make a program user friendly or a nightmare. And nobody is arguing that that it should "look like" mudbox. People argue that they wish Zbrush was as intuitive AS Mudbox, If you get 2 people that have never used a modelling software to model something, you will find that they will enjoy Mudbox more than Zbrush due to easy of use. Apply that to Zbrush's UI functionality and Mudbox will cease to exist.
Zbrush is a modeling program. You export the models into an animation package such as MAYA. Then the model needs to be prepared with controller points, joints, etc. This is called 'rigging'. After that, animations can be created either using motion capture or manually. Making a movie with 3D assets isn't just a pop in a background and animate ordeal. There is A LOT of work involved before a single movie frame is rendered.

Different artists use different programs. zBrush is mainly used to create the look of a monster, and then exported to Maya and other apps which do a lot more than zBrush does. zBrush doesn't understand physics or how the real world works. It's just a easy sculpting app. A movie studio needs hundreds of apps to complete a movie. zBrush is just going to sculpt clay models.
@@RoyceBarber zbrush is not an "easy sculping app" its one of the most difficult software you can use. and it's not just for sculpting. you can get addons and whatnot... you can use scripts. zbrush has plenty of uses, but the primary use is yes.. modeling and texturing.

You can rig characters in zbrush. Plus hard surface sculpting is easy in zbrush. Zbrush has a modeling brush.
