    I had 2 great uncles in the DLI during ww1, both brothers john and William died a week apart from each other aged 19 and 21.
    We still have all their letters, brave men.

    A proud day, thanks for sharing. I remember the band kept changing the beat on the march back to the drill hall and it being bloody cold :-)

    My proud line ,,,,,,,,,,,, 1891 my Great Great Grand father served in the DLI , still show as the 68th Regt of Foot, his son served in the DLI fought in WW1. wounded, gassed, and shellshocked. He bloody reenlisted in1939 and was discharged to the Home guard in 1942 due to the fact he only had one lung. Sadly he was killed in a mining accident in 1947. My other Grandfather was KOYLI and DLI WW1 his cousin was in the army in 1904 NF and was killed in WW1 with the Border Regt. His brother was killed serving with the RFA. My Grandfathers oldest brother was killed on the Somme with the NF Tyneside Irish. We have served in every generation since fathers, mother brothers cousins and my son is a senior soldier now with the appropriate operational roll of honour that goes with that time line. On his mothers side army and navy back to the boxer rebellion. I grew up knowing exactly who the proud DLI are. The ACF in the late 70s were still wearing the cap badge little lads of 4 foot standing 6' tall. FAITHFUL
    In these daft times,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Lest we bloody Forget
    Auld Veteran

    Grandfather served in the DLI in First World War, a shame they have been amalgamated like so many other fine regiments.

    A fine tradition, earning the ‘Freedom’ of a town, it’s a pity it was done whilst the regiment was re-equipping, the mix of L1A1’s and L85’s just doesn’t look right.

    See the boys who had been to Belfast as they had the old SLR instead of the first version of SA80

    its sad to think this local Bn is now gone It was Durhams Last Bn i think the DLI had 32 Bn in world war one and now we have just a Coy in the county of Durham I went too see the freedom parade in Sunderland 2023 and i was shocked to see the Rifles Reserve who looked Shabby compared to the old 7Bn on this video I dont think i will ever attend a Rifles Parade again its too upsetting to see Paul Your Dear Dad saw the best times in Durham with the 7th Bn (Durham) Light Infantry with one of the best bands the Army ever had

    What’s the difference between a Rifle regiment and light infantry?

    • @Brecconable
      @Brecconable Місяць тому

      Light Infantry wear berets and have silver buttons on parade, with maize yellow and dark green rank insignia for Other Ranks, and silver for officers, the No.10 Mess kit is in red.
      Rifles wear peaked caps and have black buttons, with black, gold and rifle green rank insignia for Other Ranks, and black for officers. The No.10 Mess kit is in rifle green which is a very dark green colour.
