I think I understand and agree with all the advice you give, with one exception. Here, in the north east US, if I trim trees in late winter or early spring, before the leaves are fully deployed, maples bleed, growing mold and attracting bugs and most trees produce lots of sprouts around the cuts. I have better results in late summer. This gives time for bark around a cut to heal a bit and minimizes sprout growth, because the tree is growing wood, not new branches, then.
Great video that I have shared with many people. Now how about providing a link to the second video, please. It would make it MUCH easier to get the rest of the message out. And if you like that, how about a stack of links to your other tree care videos, by others and by Mark Bays.
Mark, the bow saw is not good. People need a proper pruning saw. Then just use it right. The Silky and similar saws are easily found now. These will do a good job.
All I got from this video is he's gorgeous. So gorgeous I couldn't concentrate on a damned thing he said. He looks so much like Christopher Reeves did when he was younger.
Why do you say that? His Corona loppers are the best, the pole saw is fine, the chain saw (Stihl 011) is top notch. The only questionable tool is the bow saw. It needs replacing with a proper pruning hand saw, now available in the Silky tooth pattern. If anything is missing, it would be hand loppers that cut like the big loppers but are one-hand size. He de-emphasizes the chain saw because it's not needed for much on small tree jobs like this one. It takes training and skill to use the chain saw correctly.
I love the "stylish" safety glasses! The cars in the background help set the age of this video, but the information is timeless. Thanks!
That patch on his arm is the real deal. Great info and great job!
