European here, yes, we watch and we are terrified.
You do not speak for ALL Europeans just by the way !!! I can't wait for Trump to come back and sort out the crazy shit the Dems have allowed and encouraged..
Yes. For those who wonder why are we terrified, is because the playground for those 2 is everywhere else, but USA land. Like, for example, Europe and a very convenient war for the american industry (from every point of view) . Joe Biden has the red button right now. Do we even understand what that means for the hole world ? We have a lot of reasons to be terrified .

You have a choice between Hell no and Fuck no
Everything you could want in a presidential election, these are the best two choices😂
@@Lysandra-8Really the 2 are the best you got . One who is in his 80s and struggling with age . The other one is a narcissist who wants to end democracy and turn America into a dictatorship.
😂
Accurate.
Have to agree - these 2 old guys are the best of America.
What a choice you guys have
A convicted criminal and liar
or an old guy who is clearly struggling mentally due to his age.
Surely its time for an age limit to be set on the job of PotUS. No older than 70yrs old at the end of a term of office. Any criminal conviction stops someone standing as PoTUS
I'm sure there are also lots of competent people under the age of 35.
To be president you should be between 30 and 65, and that should be a constitutional amendment so the lunatics in the supreme court can't overrule it for Daddy Trump.
+ term limits for justices too.
At least in UK if the Prime Minister is no good he or her gets kicked out and stays out. Both these have proved they are unsuitable.
Yes......here in Australia the Westminster System will filter out most of these people.
It is simply ridiculous. I pity the US and the world. Help us God !

Unfortunately not voting for one (or at all), means you are voting for the other.
it's worse: Voting for Trump = supports Trump. Voting for Biden = supports Biden. Voting blank = supports Trump. Not voting = supports Trump.
@@vrenak yep. support biden begrudginly knowing you didn't support a convict. Every bad thing that applies to biden applies to trump too
If you don't want to vote for either of the 2.
Write Mickey Mouse on the Ballot.
This is called spoiling your vote, it is perfectly legal.
Plus it cannot be used by either the Dems nor the Reps.
@@vrenakHow does not voting support Trump? I didn’t vote in 2020 and Biden won with over 80 million votes.
@@andreclark2472 Because Trumps voterbase will basically all vote, so his votes are basically a guarantee, whereas Bidens voters are a more mixed bag, so while people might say they prefer Biden over Trump, they might not bother voting, and the skewing thanks to the EC makes it even more pronounced, as relatively few apathetic voters can swing a large number of EC votes. So not voting is a partial vote for Trump, so is voting blank, or voting for anyone to the left of the Republicans, it's tragic it has to be like that, but with FPTP and EC, that's just how it is.
Hi, French here, sure we follow US news, we are NYT subscribers, I did watch this debate live, it was nighttime here. It was heartbreaking especially as my own father has Alzheimer/dementia and I hear the same sounds in his speech as Biden's. This debate was unbelievable. Especially in France we expect our politicians to be very articulate, even when their ideas are abhorrent. Trump speaks like a dumb child imo.
One of these two people will be the most powerful person on the planet for the next 4 years. Or until they die.
Ryan,so true about being insulted Biden running, someone strong is needed to put trump down for good. 🇬🇧
I made a three word comment on the debate elsewhere. 'The Ancient Patriarchy'. I was quickly corrected that it was actually an old Gerontocracy, not a Patriarchy, by two male replies. Ahhh, the irony of mansplaining.🤦
One's a criminal and the other's not physically, mentally nor emotionally fit for office. If I were an American, I'd be incredibly angry at the lack of choice.
Its just mindblowing that a "normal person" who would have done things like this Neo Fascist wouldn't even be allowed to vote anymore, but he still can go for president. Is he even still allowed to vote ?
And interesting that Ryan seems to have no problems with that but more with Biden. I mean he is old as Methusalem, but at least he is not an open fascist.
I live in the UK, and refuse to abstain from voting, because women died for my right to vote. If I lived in the US, and only had the choice that you have, I'd have a very big dilemma! The only thing I could think of doing would be to spoil my form, I think that if everyone, who didn't want to vote for either them, did actually spoil their form, that would send a very powerful message!
As a 15 handicap myself, I agree the most interesting and laughable part was the golf discussion. It’s just 2 old men trying to outbrag one another…
I'm european and I don't watch it ever. But on several yt channels that I watch daily, this just came up. So...yeah. But do not be depressed, because this is all a show. Presidents do not have any role, really. US president could be a dog. And it would not make any change.
Hard to watch. Even felt bit ashamed. You realize that lot of people around the globe didnt sleep that night just to watch it live, Your enemies definately saw it, 100%. Hello from Poland.
I'm in the UK and I watched it in full to make sure I wasn't taken in by the spin doctors. There were definitely no cheap fakes! Who is running your country right now? Never mind what happens in November
I feel sad that in the "best country of the world", you have to debate about abortion. In most debates in Europe, it's about how much immigration should be allowed (if any), how much to help people in need, the taxes for the ultra-rich, our place in the EU, that sort of thing, not basic human rights.
Regarding your candidates, politics aside, they both seem equally incompetent. I can come up with at least 5 people on each side that would be so much better, that's without thinking much, from someone in EU.
Please USA, you can do better.
Cant help but wonder how it would look if only sound-minded political analysts with PhD:s and a dozen peer-reviewed publications were allowed to enter the white house

Of course we watch it in Europe. It‘s pure entertainment 😂
What a choice, which do you want for president, the geriatric, or the megalomaniac, America is a laughing stock at the moment.
Hi Ryan, I do get your frustration. It might not be AS bad over here in Germany right now, but I do feel we are getting there. Established politicians are just doing their same old, same old while a third of the voters in some areas are drifting off to the far right out of discontentment. It all feels rather bleak and unsetteling. And yes, Europe is really concerned about Trump winning, because we still have not figured out how to get stuff done without your help. :P On a more positive note, I will keep a couch empty to crash on for you and your family here and wherever I might have to move to in the future. We need to stick together somehow. ;)

11:36 I had a tendency to vote for a non-major party a few years back, and it was pointed out to me, in a close, realistically 2 party election, I was voting for the party I did not like, by reducing the votes for keeping them out ie Vote against the person you don't want to be president, to ensure he is not elected. Friends joked with me that my vote was wasted
I am glad I live in Australia. Yes we have to have out cross off when we vote. Yet Biden and Trump would never be elected to be prime Minister one to old and the other to corrupt.

I think, the democrats should change their candidate. Maybe this might not be easy, but they could surprise us all and choose a rational, "young" and energetic person?
By the way - I don't share your opinion. Not voting should not be an option for you. Biden - if he still will be running - is no good option, but not to vote leads to an opportunity for the Trump supporters.
You really should not miss the opportunity to vote against Trump, even if Biden might be a bad option.
Just my five cents as a 60 years old with some life experience.
The thing is, not voting is basically voting for the option you like the least, since the voters who like your worst option won't just suddenly stop voting.
One thing to remember is that the vote isn't just about the figurehead, but also the administration. Neither of these men should be president of a local hobby club, let alone a country. But do you want more Trump loyalists and fanatics running the show, or at least halfway competent people?
Biden's team has been more than capable. Look at all the legislation they've managed to get through, that has had significant positive impact on ordinary people's lives, and will continue to do so into the future. It's significant too, that Trump can't hold on to team members and disses them as soon as they're gone, in his usual crass style. I just read somewhere that out of 40 close aides Trump had in his previous administration, not one is backing him in this election. In contrast, Biden team members tend to be loyal, and there've been nothing like the stream of 'inside' stories about Trump's incompetence, inability to read, or comprehend information, and volatile behaviour, coming from present or former Biden aides. I think that speaks volumes about the difference in character and competency of the two men.
These 2 numpties talking about their golf game while there are millions struggling to put food on the table. I thought the UK was bad but these 2 are unbelievable 😢
It wasn't about golf, it was a point about which of the two candidates are more physically fit. That makes it a reasonable point.

@@jeffafa3096 I don’t even think they work with our political system, we have a parliamentary system and debates are very presidential. @@tristanridley1601 I agree that the US needs more options than just Republican and Democrat. They direly need more parties with a viable chance for election.
Yet, when it comes to choosing between Biden and Trump, voting Biden still is the better choice. Biden is a dud and shouldn't be running again, but he will at least appoint people who can do their job. If Trump wins again, there's going to be four years of chaos and, potentially, more dismantling of the democracy.
Sometimes, you have to vote for the lesser of two evils to prevent the greater one. All of Trump's supporters will be voting. Just because he's doddery and can't always get his words out fast and straight, particularly in the face of a firehose of complete BS from Trump doesn't mean he's incapable of running a very effective administration - as the last 3 1/2 years have shown.
His long experience is a huge plus for him, as is his ability to gather and hold on to a very capable and loyal team - unlike Trump. If anything happened to Biden, Kamala Harris seems capable and on the ball, and seems to be becoming a better communicator too - more than capable of taking over, if necessary.

But if it really comes to Biden vs. Trump in November, you cannot let Trump and his despicable Crew of the Heritage Foundation win. So not voting for Biden is a vote left to Trump. Having Trump get back to power will have a huge impact on us European countries and the rest of the world too. Well said, you are 100% correct there.
We are voting for the administration, not just the candidate. Everyone in trumps administration is either currently in jail or has been charged with crimes. Not to mention he's a con man was trying to overthrow y gov these 2 R the best us has
But Ryan, not to vote, is a vote for Trump. Lately, the supreme court made it harder, to punish Capitol Hill raiders. Four more years of Trump, would change the course of your country. You have to save democracy for your child, bevor it is to late.
While this is true - the democrats doomed America by putting biden there.
I don't really get any other perspective on this. Not voting for either of the two is preserving the status quo.
It really depends on the state where you live. People in ''purple'' states are the only ones who really matter (and yes I realise that would not be the case if everyone had that attitude).
I really don't want Trump.. but then if he gets in, thats him done.. unless..😅

I think the biggest problem is that candidates in your country need to raise a large amount of money for their campaigns. This often causes many younger candidates to fail in the early stages since they might not have built many connections yet. This also creates further dependency issues. In Germany, we don't have this problem as the funds for election campaigns are largely provided by the state.
Things were much more balanced before the Supreme Court decided that corporations are people too, and have the right to donate humongous sums to political campaigns. Now you can almost buy and office or a politician. trump has already stated that his stances and positions in the government are for sale.
On top of that, the Supreme Court just ruled that bribes are not bribes if the money comes after the decision in question/after the fact.
Who is actually running the US government Now? It:s quite scary, for real!
The Democrats.....
Are you actually so naive to think that the president runs the country?
It takes hundreds of people to run an administration, Biden is clearly senile and yet is continuing to keep running the government , because he has teams of competent people around him who prop him up.
Who do you think was running the country while Trump was on the golf course?
It certainly is, equally worrying is that Putin said in a recent speech that he isn't sure who's currently in charge of the US and that makes him edgy too....
NRA - National Rifleman's Association
I watched a good chunk of it. It was rather depressing, and Biden was far from his best - though I hear he was suffering with a cold. Having watched his last State of the Union speech in Congress (which was a stellar performance from Biden, ridiculing the MAGA morons to their faces), the debate was particularly sobering.
There's little point in focusing on what should have been. We could argue that perhaps Biden might have stood aside for Gavin Newsom or Gretchen Whitmer, but I think the die is cast, and I can't imagine it would be wise to replace him with the Dem Nat Convention only 6 weeks away.
It's an inescapable fact that age in a general sense is taking its' toll on Biden, as he's openly admitted himself. But it's equally clear that Trump is suffering actual senile dementia (as confirmed by dozens of studies from reputable clinical psychologists) - and that's a far worse proposition for the future of the country.
I take heart in that Biden has gathered around him an excellent cabinet, particularly Blinken, Janet Yellen, Pete Buttigieg, Lloyd Austin and Mayorkis - each with 4 years of a pretty much unblemished record of astute decision making. Trump on the other hand, has a potential Cabinet line-up of absolute horrors - misogynists, white supremacists and complete nutcases, their only necessary qualification being absolute submission to Trumps' demented whims.
I desperately hope the debate doesn't turn the electorate decisively against Biden - if they choose Trump, I sincerely believe the USA will be heading for real trouble.
Biden suffer from a cold was a lie. Biden had a press conference the next day and he was firing on all cylinders. That state of the union Biden was on drugs.
I was listening to Americast on the BBC . They said the debate was early and Trump had agreed unexpectedly to the conditions . Now I think we understand . With either of these I fear for the future of the World .
You're not only voting for the president but for the politics their parties stand for.
Any one but trump
i am honest here, trump was an ass like expected but biden scared me ... i would be scared if my grandfather acting this way ... its like we should talk about if he should still be living alone or be send in old people retirement home
And amercians are going to vote whether he can stay in his retirement home.
NZ here. Wasn’t going to be able to watch the whole thing, but decided to watch what I could. I’ve been closely following the whole US election issue because I see the outcome as having potentially a massive international impact. I watched maybe five minutes and then couldn’t watch another moment. It was a nightmare, pure and simple. Poor USA.
as european i had second hand embarrassment from what i saw.
its like that nightmare of stepping in front of the class for your presentation and you cant remember anything and half stumble through a few sentences before the class laughs at you.
One of these 2 Geriatrics will have the nuclear codes.
Yeah, but only one of them has a bunch of henchmen with plans ready to topple democracy and turn the US into a dictatorship, and it's not Biden.
One of them has!
Just dont give them to the orange one who thinks putin xi and kim are his best friends
both geriatrics. Both inept. But only one is an official convict
Not everybody ages the same, as is obvious from the debate.
It was the funniest thing I've ever watched 😂 The land of the free 😊 the land of the brave 😊 the land of WTF 😮 let us all pray for the American people 😂😂😂
If praying helped, the USA would be the greatest country after the Vatican.
If only it affected the USA and left the rest of us out of it.
It's also very funny, that they have thousands of megaton nuclear warheads :-(

In my opinion these years presidential elections aren't even about voting for a president, but whether to save what's left of the US democracy or to just give up on democracy. No good choice to be made, but I know what I most certainly wouldn't want to do.
Totally agree with you that neither of them are an appealing choice - although the difference between them being served a plate of food you don't really like and being served a plate of dogshit, ground glass and benzene. Yes, Biden is doddery and forgetful, but his party has genuinely good intentions for the country and he won't try to override democracy.
The view from Europe is generally that we are pretty terrified of the prospect of Trump getting back in, especially after today's SCOTUS ruling and with the far-right on the rise in a number of countries over here as well. The Democrats have been utterly negligent in the last 4 years in failing to come up with a strategy to fight Trump on his terms, to stack the courts and to safeguard the future of the country - and in allowing Biden to go through as the presumptive candidate. As some have said, the only saving grace of having this debate now is that it might prompt discussions behind the scenes and lead to someone having a quiet word, and Biden then stepping aside graciously to allow someone else, whether it's Whitmer, Harris, Newsom or someone else.
As English speakers say "the grass is always greener on the other side" we ve got our fair share of blatant incompotent politicians over here as well, in fact after brexit i think brits had the worst of it with that clown farage
Also in Austria everbody speaks about it! You have soo many smart people in US. And the best universities. Where are all the smart, eloquent women or men???
They're in Oxford/Cambridge
Yes, we have the best Universities and many smart people but the majority of USA Americans are not smart and educated unfortunately. They don’t value education as much as most Europeans and Asians do.
Smart ones don't get into power. We are not a meritocracy...
they are in congress... Jamie Raskin, Eric Swallwell, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Jared Moskovitz, Ted Lieu, Robert Garcia, Katie Porter and last but not least Jasmin Crockett are all outspoken democrats, that don't shy away from calling out the lies and propaganda from the other side.
Greetings from Germany
As a German living in Finland, and strong Ukraine supporter, I follow US politics to that extent how it affects Ukraine war, but I am glad I missed out on that debate. Even hearing about it 2nd hand makes me despair about the future of our world (specifically the consequences of Ukraine war).
Ukraine is done. It is just a matter of time. Sorry for you.
Democracy is life. Please vote for democracy.
so you obliviously mean Biden, as Trump is a wannabe dictator.
I am English, based in London. I watched the debate.
We've got it pretty bad in the UK with our 2 dire main options, but to choose between a guy that can't string a coherent sentence together and a narcissist who suggested people should drink disinfectant to cure covid....
Not so much 'God bless America' as 'God HELP America'! And, indeed , the rest of us!
Weren't they on the muppet show a few years ago?
Even the media is inept 🤣
You mean CORRUPT
Canadian here, and watched beginning to end. So sad. However, no matter the results of this debate, it still comes down to democracy over dictatorship... and democracy gets my vote every time! I'm sincerely hoping America feels the same and removes Trump from the political scene once and for all. Love, strength and wisdom to you all. This one counts!!! 🙏
If you only have one choice... Isn't democracy already dead?
American here. Life has been worse for a lot of people under Biden. I’m black and my fellow black Americans usually vote Democrat without even knowing what’s going on. Now some of them are even supporting Trump. Biden has to go.

Both parties should change their candidates.
Both of these guys are too old, they cannot be represtatives for the younger age groups.
Opinion from Denmark: Joe is by far the better statesman and diplomat.
He gets things done, his first term speaks for itself.
Trump lies 100 percent of the time and never got anything done in his first term. As things are now, Joe is the best bet. There's no reset button at this point in time. Saying that there's no option is untrue.
What has Biden accomplished other than wasting money?

To me it just feels like at least half the country doesnt have a choice in voting. And thats not a democratic principle
? Which half are you talking about.
Oh, well. Not that I don't agree with you, but in another way...
Half the country should have voted during the primary. Biden only lost one state during the Democratic primary.
it's the big companies money who decides the runner, don't blame anyone else
Trump promised to do everything for the oil industry, if they gave him a billion dollars. This was in a meeting he had with representatives of the oil industry.
Publically, out loud, no furtive movement of brown envelopes or anything like that. Like it's normal to solicitate to be bribed by industry, when you're sworn to govern for the benefit of your country.
I don't believe the USA oil industry is prepared for the Green transition, unlike the rest of the world which is at least trying. Much cheaper to just buy the president.
This time around, the Americans are not voting for a president. They are voting for if they want democracy to continue or stop being a democratic country altogether. That's what's at stake here
So true let's hope they will see it
Sorry, that's not at stake, the USA is a kleptocracy, and either candidate is equally corrupt.
how would voting either of them end democracy? you are not voting for Palpatine.
@@arohk4415 trump has explicitly stated that he wants to dramatically empower the executive branch, and the Supreme Court is setting up the infrastructure for him to do so. Of cause i want a freedom of press, but there has to be rules for news outlets, that at least regulate the amount of lies they can spread. At least make laws, that the medias can be brought before court and be sued for so much money, thatt it would even hurt a multi-billionaire in Australia...

@@07Flash11MRC It's debatable. Claudia Webbe (Labour at time of the last election) was found guilty of harassment during her time in office, but because the sentence was not custodial she wasn't removed from office. She is standing as an independent after Labour kicked her out, so she can run as an MP at least. It's unlikely someone would get to be the leader of the parties as a convict, but I don't know if there is any specific sanction. it seems likely that if you've served a sentence (or that it doesn't put you in prison), you're free to stand in an election.
