Bankhead Atmospheric Monitoring Station

In the middle of the Bankhead Forest, a project is nearing completion that will benefit researchers, farmers, meteorologists, aviators (so you have a smoother flight), and the list goes on. A large atmospheric observation station is almost complete. The station is managed by the Argonne National Laboratory and the atmospheric data collected here will be available for everyone to use. Not only will they be using instruments on the ground to monitor the atmosphere, but they will also be releasing weather balloons from the site several times a day. I got to take a look at the project today and the impact it is having and will have even on local small businesses.
