I appreciate your in-depth thoughts you put in the description just as much as the high level gameplay. Love the Cotton series but was never a big fan of the rail shooters they did for it so I'll prob steer clear of this one, but thanks for another great video.
Crazy you did this that was great! I was hoping this would be a good way to speedrun the game but that invincibility shield at the end is really unfair, I wonder if it’s in retro mode too. the fairy gems also got nerfed a lot but it doesn’t effect much until the 5th world at the mid level boss. the dreamcast version also lets you play without cutscenes. And I know it’s unpopular but I think I like the auto centering better haha
No, I believe retro mode has all of the boss changes they made for the remake. The last boss definitely still has the shield, at least. Retro mode just seems to revert Cotton's controls & mechanics to the original game's - it's not a port of the original game itself, sadly.
If they're not going to dub it in english, could they at least add subtitles during gameplay? The characters talk constantly, and not being able to understand them is annoying.
Nope. I'm not sure where to even do that. I didn't see an option for it, but I might have just missed it. That would be useful to practice Medusa and the last boss, at least.

I tried with my Qanba Drone and my F300 and just like you, I noticed the rapid fire either fails to work or when it does it stops working suddenly. they really need an auto fire because it really does start to hurt pressing the button non-stop along with making Cotton's movement a little better to help deal with all the attacks that just come from out of nowhere and you start taking hits because you can't move fast enough..
A friend of mine mentioned that you can set up autofire through Steam's gamepad configuration tool, but I haven't tried it myself. I think if you set it just below 10hz, it should work alright (maybe). But yeah, a built-in autofire update is essential.
I've been playing this new version for the last 2 days and I just wish I had anything good to say about it. For everything they tried to "fix" or re-balance, it feels like it just fucked something up in the process, and they try to advertise it as having all these new features and great things, but to say this is barebones doesn't even begin to describe how bare this release is. There's not even a single screen or manual or anything that tells you how the new gameplay mechanics work, or even how the basic gameplay mechanics work at all. There's just nothing. There's no screen telling you what the buttons do, just nothing at all. If they want this game to be accessible to a new audience of people who never played the original, they need to do some basic stuff to get there. This is just pathetic in its current state.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. In that sense, it's exactly like the Dreamcast game, but that one also comes with an instruction manual that explains all of the mechanics. It'd be nice if they could just translate that and include it either as an in-game option to view, or as a download on the game's store page or something. Nothing's too complicated and you'll figure most of it out in a few runs, but just going in cold brings some wtf with it.
As seen from the developer side i understand your point regarding the manual. There should be some kind of basic explanation for the main features like how to perform the fairy targeting, magic usage and so on. Could you try to explain a bit more about the issues besides that. Like the balancing issues you wrote about? From my viewpoint as a player i think the game is a lot easier to control and to master than the original game and during development we had to be careful to not make it too easy. You are still able to take out the bosses with a few magic spells (if you know which ones are good in the specific situation). Would be great to get some more feedback from you. Thanks a lot.

Can't even beat the stage 5 mini-boss on very easy. It's not exactly fun and games when the game throws you back at the stage after death too. Guh..
