Elijah Brown, where are you, where's Cassim? Listening to this and thinking of you all, thank you for the gift shared by Arthur Blythe's brothers in arms..Hope you all are still around, I'm writing from Martinique..!

It is interesting to me that you mention them sounding like an orchestra. The other day I had Cecil Taylor's D Trad, That's What playing. I had lined up a piece by a more experimental modern classical composer, Henri Dutilleux, called "Sonatine for flute and piano". I accidently clicked the start for that, and the two pieces blended beautifully! Of course, Cecil Taylor had a classical music education. And where he took that knowledge was brilliant, some of the most brilliant music ever made.

Cecil Taylor is a truly brilliant musician and spontaneous composer (what improvisation is ...).

It's sad that such a monumental recording was made on such a low quality piano.

the day's little banal insanities are exorcised by this deft music's artistic counter-insanity. this old recording has a feeling of discovery not as pronounced in later releases. also, sunny is actually playing drums here rather than cymbals and not confined to the eighth-note driving pulse that was cool but utilized too often for a spell.

I don't understand this music, after all, I'm not playing in his group- but I still love it! Somehow or another, a lot of my blue-sky improvisation when I actually play with energy sounds a lot like this...too many thousands of hours listening to progressive jazz sinvce the '60s, I guess.

it's only pointless (for you) if you don't get anything out of it. then listen to something else. enjoying music is not terribly complex.
