If someone makes any unsolicited alterations to my property, I'd tell them to put it back to the way it was, or spend the day cleaning it all (at no cost to me) to make it uniform, or I'd file a police report. Can't let these "test patch" people get away with it.

Many years ago, a door-to-door salesman showed up at our front door and was trying to sell some sort of concrete cleaner. As a demonstration he poured some of this stuff directly on the poured slab of concrete right in front of my front door. The concrete had a nice, weathered look with an even color we were perfectly happy to keep it the way it was. This cleaner bubbled and fizzed when he poured it on, and when it stopped, there was a nasty looking discolored spot on the ground. We told him to get the heck off our property and not come back.
We had to hire someone to come back and pressure wash the entire slab. Even after pressure washing, you could still see the spot left by the chemicals. It stayed like this for several months until the Sun and time restored it back to the way we liked it. Leaving "test spots" is a good way of making people mad, especially if they were un-invited in the first place.

I have seen a few videos on starting pressure washing businesses encouraging people to do these test spots. “Oh if you clean a spot and they realize how much better it looks they will hire you.” All I could think was if some random jerk comes and tries to bully me into hiring them that way I would absolutely refuse! Interesting to see I am not the only one. Plus that they are getting business for you in a roundabout way… 🤣😂🤣!

Everything I've ever seen advising testing says to do it on a small non-obvious area... not 1m2 right in front of the door. That's the real strongarm tactic. I wouldn't mind someone doing a genuinely unobtrusive test patch, with permission.

Nice before and after. My friend has a power cleaning business. He'd carry dang near a five gallon can of that foaming cleaner and spray down peoples stuff. I found an old gold cart caddy for $2 at a yard sale. He made a small metal square and set his container on it and then strapped it to the rod. No more carrying that heavy container. He now just wheels it as he sprays. That's a back saver.. Test patchers aren't allowed here. These "fly by night" scam artists set up in town, scam a few dozen people and move on. One woman paid $600 to have her house powerwashed. They took her money, got in their van and drove away and never so much as sprayed a block. They knocked on her door and just robbed her. A neighbor drove around and got their license number and called the cops. They came back saying "they were only going to lunch". The cops made them give back her $600 and they had a WAD of money. So t he cops had their info in case others called to complain about them. Preying on the elderly is disgusting.

Oh my goodness, being from the Southern US, I had such anxiety watching you get your bare hands into an ants' nest!! We have fire ants here, and they will swarm all over you and bite/sting the heck out of you. They're really aggressive and are very painful. First time I've watched this - it's impressive how new you were able to make it. I thought those dark stained areas would never come clean! I didn't see any advertising on your van and I wondered if you'd ever considered having a sandwich-board sign made that you could leave at the end of the driveway while you work, and passing motorists or people walking by would see the sign plus be able to catch a glimpse of you working and of the finished product. Leave the sign there for a few days or a week after a job is completed. That might prompt a few phone calls from people who maybe hadn't been considering having theirs done, but the look of the freshly cleaned neighbors' drive made them think maybe it was time for their own. My husband used to do interior renovations to homes and of course people passing by outside would have no clue there was anything going on there, so I had a couple of sandwich board signs made for him to put outside a house he was working on. Although they couldn't see what was going on inside, many people would stop and ask the homeowner what they had done and could they have a look. I think a lot of his work came from those spontaneous passersby.

A hour later i refused the deal and said his pitch stated if you dont like it you have nothing to lose as you get a room cleaned for free but of course he said he had ran out of time and would return tomorrow to finish the job. I refused to let him out of my property until he did clean the small room he tested on but others may not have had the pull i did or be intimidated. best thing with door knockers is be blunt and use the f word followed by off! We've learned slow/bad drainage is not a good thing. That is a larger property with a lot of cleaning needed. (The test patch stood out as cleaner but they didn't even address the Black Spot?)
Thank you very much for explaining a repair, ant treatment. I don't normally listen to rap music but this one song seems to have some merit, discussing persistence, doing basics when you don't feel up to par, getting through poor days. Kevin, at The Lawn Care Juggernaut, has talked about facing down really difficult stuff often is followed by a win and progress over time, an increase in ability, skills, confidence. Personally, you do good work, you explain well for the rest of us and I like the progress in this job before you even do the hypochlorite. I also like that you adapt, you have (an XJet) for broad applications (very good coverage) and you also do bucket and brush applications where applicable. You got all the final details. Back in 2012 I was looking for a job. I was having no luck even being fresh out of college. I had been working at a poultry plant and when they shut down in 2008 because of the recession I was given a pell grant for college. I saw an add in the jobs listing advertising a job for people who like to travel. It sounded simple, just go door to door selling cleaners. So I went for it and ended up getting a paid trip from Missouri to Texas. They did not tell me to dress casual and my clothes were all nice business looking stuff. We were given a daily allowance for supplies and food. Supplies were ripped towels into rags, scrub brushes, steel wool and pens. We were driven around neighborhoods by a big white van and was aloted certain streets to knock on doors. they had us literally working from sun up to sundown with Sundays being our only days off. Out of 35 people only me and one other were women. I had started in El Paso and had to always have a man escort me around due to being so close to Juarez Mexico. The drug cartels love to snatch white women and ransom them back to family. Had many people slam their doors in my face, look at me in disgust or tell me to get a real job. At the hotel the guys were always barbecuing and always had free beer (for the me and the other women). The other women would buy pot and bring it back and mix it up then resell it to the guys. Before this I had never been around pot. The first day she made me smoke some to prove I wasn't a snitch. God there was so much weed and alcohol. I partied hard at night and did door to door sales during the day. What made me quit was when I had a man get in my face and call me good for nothing and that I should get a real job and I yelled back that I did have a good job but had lost it and now I'm doing whatever I can to make ends meet. He then yelled back at me I would be better off just dancing in a strip club and he tried to drag me into his home.

Wow, thank you Ivan, i'm honoured. I would love to upload more than once a week, but I sometimes struggle with doing it once a week with a busy business and family commitments. But will try to get to that goal if I can. All the best, Nick ✊👍

Ivan I totally agree! I'm a pressure wash content fan. In love with quaint British patios and pathways! 🤩 I love Ben@Flawless et al, also enjoy Partridge and TheBinCleaner. Both great transformations and TBC has good humor too.
Nick has the best legs tho. 🤣🤣🤣

I use a similar product on my own driveway and patio area but I use a much slower method to dispense the product. I would love to see how you do it and can it be done through an ordinary hose as I do it at regular intervals and do not need that much pressure, thanks.

Now I know why my front brick walkway is so uneven. My house is 103 years old and I have a big ant problem. I am going to put food grade diatomaceous earth on the source (60 ft. tall tulip poplar) and at all doorways and windows. Wearing a mask of course! I already tried making my own boric acid/sugar syrup traps and that helped but not enough. Then I need to get a handyman to reseat the bricks in sand so they aren't uneven. How many cubic ft of kiln dried sand/100 sq ft (cubic yds/10 sq meters) do you use for a driveway after you fix the uneven spots and gussy it up? I would also like to know how you get your spray so foamy. That's a sure way to tell if you applied it correctly.
You did a beautiful job on that brick driveway and patio. In the USA, we don't have very many of those unfortunately. It really adds to the look of the property.
